  1. why all the hate? at least dubstep is infinitely better than minimal ;)

    :o Not to my ears!

I don't mind some of the softer side of dubstep absorbed into chill & dub, like Globular and Ott have done, but I detest the screeching, glitchey stuff.

I certainly don't like dubstep ( or any kind of breakbeat tbh) dropped into psytrance sets. There's nothing that ruins the flow and vibe more to my mind, especially if you're tripping. I've had to leave the main floor at a party because someone started dropping glitchy breaks and it really unsettled me. I like the warm massage of psytrance on the odd occasion that I take anything these days, not spikey uncomfortable harshness.

  2. Oh man, I love that album! (And Incunabula.)

I actually prefer it to Solar Fiields & Aes Dana.

I think there's much more going in in these tunes than your average Ultimae release (but I do find them a little tedious tbh), small nuggets of genius, like the string sounds as Silverside is finishing for example.
I can't really describe why I like Amber so much - a combination of things, I guess... it was way ahead of it's time, blended techno, electro, 80s electronica and more organic chilled sounds, plus seeing them perform amazing live gigs at that time probably added to my love for the album.

I still buy all their CDs today, but I'm not a big fan of the newer, more experimental glitchy noise they put out.

Just skipped through it again to confirm, but yes - it remains one of my all-time favourite electronic albums! :)

  3. Sounds great to me, as I only buy CDs and generally don't download albums. (Even free ones.)

I'm not familiar with a lot of your releases for this reason, so can't comment on track choice right now, but I'll try to check some out and see what's what. :)

  4. Beyond The Infinite is my favourite. There are some amazing tracks on there. The start of Ice Cube where the beat first drops is awesome. (The whole track is really!) :D

I lost interest after that album, tbh. They seemed to try to diversify, but I wasn't keen on the new elements they introduced.

  5. Do you suppose there'd be any demand for a website that kept track of current releases like Goastore/Psyshop etc. but instead of selling them itself it featured links to the relevant pages of labels' own sites? Seems like it could work, though I'm not sure about the economics of it. Conceivably labels could submit details (it would be in their interest to do so if the site took off) so maintaining it wouldn't be too much work, and there could be an option for labels to pay to have their releases displayed more prominently. Sound plausible?

I don't know if it would be viable but would be useful.

To be honest Psyshop & Beatspace are also good for checking releases (I've not used Goastore,) it's more the move towards self releases via Discogs & Facebook and Bandcamp that I find a problem. How do you keep track of it all?

Bandcamp's o.k. if you know who you're looking for, but how do you find new releases from artists you've never heard of that you might like? On Arabesque, Psyshop etc, you can just play the samples of all the new releases that might be of interest and they're all there in one place.
