I love the new album.
I'm not bothered that it's nothing like the old Koxbox - what it lacks in melody and layers, it makes up for with hypnotic grooves and a good old thump. Great dancefloor music and quite unique sounding, even with the full-on basslines - superb IMO.

They always made this kind of pop music with a bass and kick as 1200 Mics.
For example this is from 2007
I've always disliked 1200 Mics. They're like some kind of joke-band as far as I'm concerned.

Well, I placed orders to Anjuna and Zion in January-February, even got quite genuine appearing promises of re-shipment from both, yet nothing has arrived from either label. I think there are some fundamental problems over there.
I don't feel like blaming anyone in particular. Nevertheless, as the outcome is money paid but no items received, currently I cannot recommend direct orders from that corner of the earth, regardless of the reason.
If there's a genuine problem with post from Israel, then they do have my sympathies. However - it doesn't look good when the CD I ordered from Avatar (also in Israel) after the promise of a second shipment from Anjuna, got to me in a week and I still have no Moonweed CD.
It's not the customers' problem if the chosen method of shipment is unreliable and to be expected to wait months for a delivery is ridiculous. This is the 21st century! Anjuna know there have been issues and should act accordingly.
The company has taken peoples' money in good faith and it's up to them to ensure that the goods reach their destination. Just shipping another one to get lost in the system again doesn't cut it and must be costing them a fortune. I'm sure it would be more sensible to use a decent (traceable) courier in the case of replacements and not risk losing another disc and further upsetting customers.

I ordered this in February FFS!
That's the last time I order from these jokers unless they get some proper distribution.
They've basically stolen my money.
I'm not even interested in any excuses now - Avatar Music can ship from Israel to my door in 1 week, so I don't believe their bullshit.
What a way to run a business.

I've not had that problem from them. (I did once from Arabesque and they sent a no quibble replacement straight away.)
Once had a damaged CD from Psyshop. I contacted them and they asked me to return it. I did and a replacement was with me before too long. No worries here.

The remixes are outstanding, IMO!
I've still got my original Doof CD that I bought in the 90s, so wasn't overly bothered that there was going to be a re-issue of that disc- but to have these extra alternative versions of all the album tracks is fantastic!

I'd never heard this album before getting my hands on the Suntrip Re-issue.
It's certainly a classic slice of Goa and a million miles away from Asia 2001's recent "Contact" album - which I thought was pretty dreadful.

A good example of how modern day Goa Trance should be done IMO.
Just perfect - groove-laden, insistent and not getting too carried away with the melodies.

when i buy a CD i buy it to listen to it with good headphones at home - and i dont turn the volume up too much anyway good music doesnt need to be played too loud
and really anything can work on a dancefloor so thats not saying much
I'm afraid I don't agree with that at all.
Dance music by it's very nature is made to be played loud.
You could say with Goa arguably it's less important than some less-melodic styles, but even so, there are dynamics in the bass frequencies that just aren't apparent until you reach a certain volume. Those wobbling waves of energy that push & pull you are what techno & trance are all about to my mind and they only make themselves known at high volumes. I'm fairly certain that tracks are engineered with the intention of sounding optimum on a big rig.
I like to listen with decent headphones too (and decent hi-fi speakers) to appreciate the subtle elements in music, but nothing beats the bass thumping you in the chest from a big system.
I buy hundreds of CDs for home listening, that are aimed at the dance floor! I can't get to that many parties due to various commitments, but still have to get a regular trance fix!
Anyway -
I'm more than happy with these remixes. I think they sound great and have much more punch than the originals. (I'm not saying they're better, but the modern production means they'll stand being dropped into new Goa or Psy sets pretty nicely.) I haven't played the CD enough to tell which are my favourites yet, but I'll let you know!

I don't agree with half the material being "throwaway" at all! I think this is a stunning album. The percussion especially, is incredible.
I wouldn't change a thing.

The cover is koxbox style but the music is 100% full on, i have heard the samples on psyshop and well it is not what i expected, but of course it would be better to hear full tracks. Also this was made by Frank & Illinton
I really enjoyed the "Hidden Pathways" album by Frank E & Illinton, so that's ok by me.

I really don't see how they can possibly take so long. I ordered a CD from Avatar Music (also in Israel) just after I was told another Moonweed disc would be sent out to me and that arrived in just 7 days...

Looking back, I seem to have pretty much missed the actual point of this thread -
Getting back on track - it does seem that there are quite a few headline (or thereabouts) slots occupied by old school Goa artists at festivals this year - even here in the UK.
We have the likes of Infected Mushroom (old school live) headlining Boomtown Fair's Psychedelic Forest, along with Juno Reactor, Green Nuns, Slinky Wizard & Astrix. The Green Nuns are also playing a DJ set at Bearded Theory and at Sunrise there's GMS and a DJ set from 1200 mics.
All of these acts are way past their best in my mind and I'd much rather see some new-school Goa artists on the line-ups. I can only think that they've been booked on the strength of their reputation from days gone by and are likely to attract a number of people simply because they might have heard of them. (And getting a DJ set off these kind of acts is a bit low-rent don't you think?)

I don't think this is so much a case with the wider psytrance scene, but certainly on Psynews with its heavy Goa-bias, there seems to be an elevating of the original Goa artists and the feeling that nothing else quite measures up.
When I first started to use the forum I found it a bit odd. Goa trance (old or new) is hardly mentioned elsewhere comparitively and I know several people (DJs & producers included) who don't actually like Goa trance at all. (Mainly because of the melodies.)
Go figure!
Personally, while I went to parties in the 90s and still love Hallucinogen, Shakta, Prana etc, I enjoy new music including darkpsy & forest every bit as much.
I do find the way that some people can't seem to enjoy anything from after the"golden years" a little bit sad.

Sounds disappointing to me.
Some of the tracks sound nice enough (if unremarkable), but "For Those About..." and "Hack A HaKa" sound like naff, cheesy Israeli full-on, of the most cringe-worthy kind.
Not even close to Tristan's album IMHO.
