Like I already mentioned on facebook, I do quite a lot. As a beginning dj I had a lot of inspiration listening to stuff featured on the goat ranch (Solitare, Marsh, Jimm'll mixit & Draeke to name a few).

I was always interested in the more psychedelic side of melodic goa trance but especially the older music on this side of the goa spectrum tends to be difficult to mix so I learned a lot listening to these masters.

Nowadays I'm venturing inside of forest territory a lot too  so yur 'we're all math here'-mix for example was a starting point for me to learn how to approach mixing forest ;)

I've been away from this forum for a long time, but now I know who you are. :)
Thanks for the feedback on my set! With all the different ways of uploading and sharing dj sets nowadays it's hard to know who checks out what and if the story is appreciated or if people just skip through it. Glad you liked it! :)
Your latest set is somewhere on top of my "gonna check" list too. :D

  2. The little "cut" in the end that makes 2 beats follow eachother too quickly is also gone, which makes it easier for mixing in a dj set. :) It took some time for me to get used to the extra percussions. They seemed to be layered "on top" of the track. But I actually quite like it. I've played this version quite a few times in my latest dj sets here in Belgium. It' still one of my fav tracks up until this day. I love the way David keeps releasing and reworking his music.

  3. Hello Psynewsers!

This is the dj set I played at Mossy Behavior - Forgotten Forest Tales (2017-09-15) in Belgium where they invited Schlabbaduerst Rekkords. I recorded it back at home since it didn't get entirely recorded at the party. It's a mix of darkish Oldskool Goa, early '00 Psytrance and Oldskool Forest Trance. I tried to make the set easy enough to step into, but also psychedelic enough to be worthy of leading into the Schlab team. It's probably the most representative mix on my Mixcloud as I mostly get booked at night and these are the genres I play the most. :)

    Hope you'll enjoy! :)

    Comments more than welcome!

  4. Yup, that's true.. :) Thanks! I've been looking for that mantra track for a while, but I'd like to check the other releases too. I really can't find them anywhere... And I know quite well where to look.

  5. This'll probably turn into nothing, but here goes..: Does anyone still have these tracks and want to trade them with me? I have some nice unreleased and rare oldskool goa too. These used to be free in the first place, so no harm in sharing, right? It'll make the Belgian dancefloor happy... hehe ^^

  6.

umm well like with all stereotypes there IS a grain of truth in there... for the drugs well I'm sorry but that IS the impression you get when you're at a festival.

    Also, just wanted to add:

A lot of people I took to a party with me or I've showed a video to had the same first impression. But if you ask me, that is because people that have gone into trance just look like they're really far away, while actually they're very one with everyone around them and with themselves. If you go and talk to them, you can often have quite a meaningful conversation. More than on any other dancefloor I've been.

But ofcourse, quite some people are also totally drugged out and just by themselves... so I get why some people get this overall impression, but I don't think it counts for the entire scene.

  7. My God, SO many things I would want to quote... All very very recognizable! I opened a similar thread on psychedelic.be some time ago.

But one very odd opinion (switch) that I have heard lately and that has not yet been mentioned here:

My collegues at work were very interested in me when I came to work there, we get along very well, and one of them always asks me what I've done in the weekend and thinks these goa parties are very special. She even suggested to come with the entire team to one of my parties. So she was totally open minded about this, even though it's not her cup of tea.

But lately the only things she can say about my party life are getting like "Yeah ofcourse you got home late because you went out with them drug taking hippies"...

She probably thought it was easier to just go with the clichés... Oh well :)

  8. Hey Joost,

Check out VA - Pulse 2. This is the cd I gave to Leech because he only had one vinyl player. So half of the tracks of the first hour/hour and a half came from that compilation, which is from 1996... Surprise surprise :)

Don't know which tracks he picked because I was playing in the chillout. But it has stuff on it like:

    Cosmosis - San Yacid

Amanite FX & Prana - Black Rain

Asia 2001 - Dawn to Dusk....

This music is indeed NOT yet outdated... ;)

Maybe you can ask him himself what else he played? Brainleech on Psychedelic.be forum

  9. Last night I heard a dj play an amazingly good track, I asked him which one it was and he told me it was Lotus Omega - Holiday on venus and that it was unreleased. Does anyone have any more info on this track and where I can find it? I'm willing to trade something for it :)

I could try to contact Filippo and Francesco, does anyone have their email?

  10. So what is the point of this thread... you're crying because you can't buy CDs you want for less than 50-200EUR, which you claim is unfair and unjustified, and you want people to give you free copy of the music instead?

Read my post please? That's totally not my point
  11. Wow, I think I just typed the longest sentence ever at the end

sorry, I got dragged away :)

again: I don't want to accuse anyone. Copying and sharing isn't the answer too. I just feel that so much music is going lost in time...

  12. I like Hara Gobi - Freaks the most. Can't really seem to get into his other works though..

It's a bit too "childish" sometimes, as someone has described it here :)

Maybe I haven't heard enough of him, only a few tracks

I do love that storytelling sound at 1:30 of Freaks. One of the most psychedelic sounds I have ever heard, it really speaks to my imagination. I played it at a party once, in a build-up set, and everybody seemed to really like that sound. A very trancy experience :)

  13. I often listen to old UK techno when I go to sleep. Not the dancefloor orientated techno, but the more atmospheric albums of: Orbital, FSOL, Emmanuel Top, Planetary Assault Systems (Luke Slater)...

Especially listening to Orbital makes me calm (not sleepy). Their smooth, atmospheric sounds and happy rhytms just clear my head. Even though the structure of their music is less complex compared to what I usually listen to, they always catch my concentration forr 100% and believe me, it takes a lot to do that :)

  14. I've heard a lot about this and yesterday I listened to the samples for the first time

I'm not really into dark, because most of the time I only hear the artists throwing random patterns at me,

but in this album the artist is actually DOING something with the patterns too, it all seems to blend together perfectly

I'll maybe buy this one, of the samples can keep me interested for some time

  15. Psychedelic ambient

    or "Psybient"

that's a name for the more recent ambient with basslines/beats (ambient actually stands for BEATLESS music for as much as I know).

I think it's called like that because artists became inspired by the (psy)trance culture and sounds. Most ambient artists I know from the late eighties and early '90s were more beatless. Most of the artists I know that are making this so called "psybient" are somehow linked to the psytrance culture.

i'm not saying that there is a clear line between ambient and psybient, or that one has beats and the other one doesn't, so you can call it whatever you want to ;)

but if you're looking for more artists like the ones you named, look for "psybient" or "psychedelic chill". Ultimae Records (visit their site of you don't already know that label) has some of the very best artists imo. Especially Asura, Aes Dana, Solar Fields...

btw, if anyone wants to adjust my little theory here, please do so :)

  16. The most I ever spent on a cd is €25 for the Zirrex - Lost in Time re-release here in Belgium. Usually I pay between €10 to €20 for oldskool goa cd's, unless it has some tracks that I really want to play at parties. Then I would give up to €35 max I think. Unless it's an Accidental Occidentalism or IFO or something at €50, then I would reconsider :)

  17. The first two to three times I listened to this album, I thought it was really good. It has nice sounds, a very organic and original bassline and a nice drive to it. But now I've come to find it boring actually. It has all the aspects of decent forrest trance (organic bassline, troll-like sounds and melodies...), but he doesn't really do anything original with it imo. It's all too static, the sounds don't come together to a swirling forrest experience

    that's how I experience it
