where did you get this information?
I used to work at a used CD store, and we NEVER punched holes in barcodes. In fact, it's hard to do, you have to open the whole CD up, and pull out the insert - you can't put it back in without messing it up one way or another.
I am 99% sure most of the punched holes are from promotional copies. Nearly every CD we got at the radio station (and the promos I'd get as a DJ) had a hole through the barcode - even brand new ones that are still in the original plastic packaging. This was in the late 90's - though I am pretty sure this is still common practice, at least among the larger/more established labels that have a stock of CDs designated as promotional material (there are thousands of radio stations, reviewers, magazines, and DJs who get these promos).
Also I clearly remember getting promotional CDs from Blue Room - they were sponsored and had a large operation, even opened an office in the US called 'Blue Room Americas' and went to Burning Man with their own theme camp, and a massive sound system - X-Dream played that year. They did a massive promo campaign, so I think your CD might be one of those distributed for free.
all this brings back memories.
There is a more pleasant notion
So far I have noticed two 'flavours' of holes. (no wise 'cracks')
There is vanilla which is a hole made with a hole punch.
And then there is chocolate which is a tight little hole.
Chocolate seems to have been made with a 2-3 mm spike and
is a little rough around the edges.

I have heard mostly bad things about it and so my maximum bid was
set to $2.04. Hope it's worth 25.5 cents a track
edit: I guess I mean 12.375 cents a track...

The cold weather slows down our metabolism and ... and ... like
so we can't move aas fast and stuff!?!
I meant that auction that your friend won which included some overpriced
CD everyone wants.

It means that a retailer has sold the album once already. After that, the person who bought it got rid of it, usually by selling it back to a used CD store. The used CD store will punch a hole in the bar code and resell it. I get the feeling that resellers must be required by law to do this, so that they don't rip anybody off by trying to sell a used CD as new.
Interesting. It's amazing how unscrupulous some people are.
I just received a copy of 'Access Denied' with one of those holes
but which is shrinkwrapped!!! Oh well, only 99 cents. ( x6 incl. shipping )

GRRRR.....I WANT THAT HOODIE!!!!!!!
Nice to see you back here Aaron! Did you see that demented
auction? I pointed a fellow in your direction. Hope that was cool.

Hmm - I keep seeing the CD, but the vinyl is one of the very few TIP's I'm missing. Feel free to let me know when you see the vinyl again =)
As for my new arrivals, no trance today but these two showed up:
Thomas Krome - Bitches From Hell
http://www.discogs.com/release/7665
Glorior Belli - Ô Laudate Dominus
http://www.discogs.com/release/619195
hi ukiro, I think my statement there was unclear. By 'opposite is true for the vinyl'
I meant to indicate that it was the vinyl that was the rarer item instead
of the CD.
I have never seen the Growly vinyl in my searches, but neither have I
specifically looked for it. I think it is most likely the most elusive TIP
release.
I think you once mentioned TIP22 being pressed onto blue vinyl.
Do you know if that is true?

You all know what I am talking about. A CD arrives with a hole or
a hole-punch in the middle of the barcode on the back. Does this
mean the CD was rejected by 'quality control' inspectors?
I just got Total Eclipse - Access Denied (sealed) for 99 cents.
It has one such 'hole' I have noticed these CDs come from dealers
who appear to have bought huge inventories of CDs at special liquidation
sales.
Any ideas??

It is pretty uncommon! The last copy I saw on ebay went for 80+ dollars!
But it is realistically worth 35-60 dollars I think.

Working on getting some CDs on B12.

This one isn't really possible to answer, but I would imagine it is
some piece of classical music that I've never heard.
'The End' by the Doors, and Delibes - Lakmé are pretty neat but don't
really belong in that stratum. In electronica, my favorite so far is '...And The Day Turned To Night'

One would think. It seems there are many, many possible variables
in this equation though: marketing strategies, micro-demographics,
technical problems, financial problems, licensing problems...
ukiro pointed out that the Hyporhythm CD is harder to get than the vinyl.
Same goes for, and I promise not to mention them for another 72 hours,
Crop Circles - Lunar Civilization. I know of only four confirmed copies in
existence (not because Discogs has it at that), yet there are many more vinyls
floating around.
Similarly for the Space Pussy CD single and the four Flying Rhino CD singles.
The opposite seems to hold for The Growly Family vinyl.

I've got a super rare Simon Posford record available for sale or trade.
It's called Flight promo 1, Butterfly Records (Dragonfly's parent label) first release from 1992.
From what I've heard there were only a double digit number of records pressed back in 1992 (I believe it's 30 but I'm not sure). It's quite possibly Simon Posford's first release.
Please PM me with your offers.
Thanks
What are the tracks like?

Tip Records, UK (pre-release promo)
Tip Records, UK (first edition)
Tip Records, UK (second edition)
It's also part of this 2CD set:
The Colours Of Shiva - Part 3 - Tua Records / Nova Tekk, Germany
This has to be some kind of record. Could there be even more versions? I expect this is because of the demise of Flying Records Distribution; TIP needed money since they lost a lot with flying, and they had a strong name, so they licensed this one to as many labels as they possibly could. And apparantly a lot of them swallowed the bait... Because honestly, while a nice set of tunes, this is not the most remarkable release TIP made.
For a while I was thinking it'd be kind of fun in a dorky way to have them all, but unless someone throws the last 3 at me, I won't bother =)
Astral Projection - Dancing Galaxy: 5 CDs + (1CD+1CD3") + 1 vinyl
as well as a 12" single by the same name.
still, 7 releases seems to be the record so far.
Juno Reactor - Beyond The Infinite: 6 CDs + 1 vinyl
also there are so many different Pistolero releases, pretty hard to
keep track of. (not that I NEED to)

This was one of those days when it felt like Xmas.
My roommate says to me: "There's like a hundred CDs here for you"
Crop Circles - Full Mental Jackpot - Contains the most popular track by Etnica/L.O guys
Blue Planet Corporation CD - Been looking forward to listening to Alidade
Transwave - Rezwalker - very good tracks by Transwave
Etnica - Plastic - hard to find CD single
Adham Shaikh - Realignment - No idea what this is like but Adham Shaikh is good.
Drax - Amphetamine - I DL'ed the original mix of this awhile back
accidentally because someone labelled the artist as Hallucinogen,
but it turned out to be a nice hypnotic tune.
Various - Floatation (has Shpongle - Saudade Pt. !!)
and some compilation CD with two Jaia tracks: Brainstorm
and Orphee and another track with Jaia + Jean Marie K called
Kora.

Yea it was quite a bit. I am actually selling them all as a single lot for
480$ right now.
The FAX releases are nice. I have a dozen or so in my Discogs wantlist. All
I have is the 'Cookbook' which I am also selling for 150$. I don't want to sell
them but I don't want to live in a cardboard box more.
What new music did you get today?

Maybe I am insane but I would not have spent more than 150$
on it. Theoretically I suppose you can resell the Hux Flux item
for 100$ making the 69 remaining CDs cost 50$ plus shipping.
72 cents per CD sounds like a good deal I guess...
