  1. I don't concider most psytrance to be "psychedelic" at all.

That doesn't mean I don't like it or that it's no good, it's just not

mind altering, conscious expanding or whatever the fuck your

    definition of psychedelic is.

...but there are some SA artists that are much less predictable and

I guess more "psychedelic" than others. Guys like Shift and especially Artifakt

have very individual styles so if you want something different check

    them out.

Rinkadink makes very "normal" psytrance, with lots of catchy melodies and

bouncy basslines. His music isn't intended to blow your mind, it was

    intended for the dancefloor.

  2. all dance/trance music is formulaic.

i thought that was pretty clear.

you just gotta listen to and appreciate it for what it is.

if you're looking for hardcore, psychedelic, groundbreaking trance

then look again, but if you just want groovy tunes then you're sorted.

lemmi; you have to experience the south african scene

before you can have a proper impression of it.

the party is what it's all about.

  3. um Lemmiwinks, no disrespect but i think your review is a bit out of context.

Maybe I'm biased because i'm south african, but there are a lot of people

that will agree with me that rinkadink is not a typical full on artist.

He's one of south africa's best producers and his style is unique.

It's definately not hard full on, noisy or techy, it's very light, tongue in cheek

style of music. stuff your parents would probably enjoy. it suits south african

dancefloors very well, it has a lot of energy and positive vibes.

of course it's cool not to like it, but check this guy out at a party and tell

me he doesnt fuck the floor up proper.

and lemmi just out of curiousity, have you ever heard of shift, artifakt,

    broken toy, twisted system, protoculture?

the nano compilations are shit compared to the tunes of today

  4. Skazi is like the Usher of trance.

His music is about as psychedelic as taking a shit.

Oh and by the way this skazi `hatred` is anything

but new. I don´t know about the rest of you, but

I´ve hated his music since I first heard it and he

was one of the first trance DJs I ever heard.

Thank god I discovered real psy like Hallucinogen,

    Infected, etc.

Skazi has no talent, all he has is an ego and a big

enough studio to make up for having no skill.

For a long time I too have concidered his style

nothing more than glorified hard house.

  5. Great album, the melodies are insane, the production flawless and

it´s true to Infected´s style, no matter what they say.

The only problem I have is with the singing, which totally ruins

some of the tracks, particularly 1 and 5.

The singing in converting Vegans was still alright, I even found

deeply disturbed quite catchy, but I´ve officially had enough.

Duvdev is one of the worst singers i´ve ever had the misfortune

of hearing. His voice, accent and lyrics are all fucking horrible.

On the next album he better STFU.

I think erez should drop duvdev from the group because he

just seems to screw things up.

Anyway its a bit of a double edged sword, the good parts on this

album are totally mind blowing and the bad parts are from hell.

But this will appeal to all who love melodic trance.

I´m an old fan of infected and this to me is their best album by

far, except of course the singing.

Best parts; FROG MACHINE!!!!!! RATIO SCHMATIO, BOMBAT,

HORUS THE CHORUS, STRETCHED, MUSE BREAKS, MEDUZZ

i´d give a 9 out of 10. 1 point lost purely because of duvdev´s vocal chords.

  6. This album doesn´t sound like Lone Deranger at all,

I really don´t know where you guys get off saying that.

Some parts of some of the songs do sound a bit like

Classical Mushroom though, but that´s because of all

the piano and keyboard sounds he used.

Anyway, grahf: do yourself a favour and buy a dictionary.

Describing music as violent is fucking retarded.

  7. This is my take on Talpa...

After reading all the positive reviews on the net and listening to the samples,

I decided Talpa would be my cup of my tea so I bought it...

...and it´s cool, there are a couple of groovy tunes,

but it is a bit dissapointing as a whole.

Maybe I read too many reviews, I was expecting dark and

what I got was definately not dark, sometimes even bordering on cheese.

Í´m not saying the whole album is like that, but there are more than a couple of

tunes that get carried away by the melodies and sometimes turn into a

    bit of a shit fest.

Now let me set it straight, to those that are expecting a new Lone Deranger,

or whatever, don´t get your hopes up.

This is a solid trance album, but it doesn´t come close to anything ever done

by Hallucinogen. I personally think Misted´s release was much better. The melodies, the production, everything. This album is above average for sure, but not much else.

Although to each his own, if you like the sounds of the samples then check it out.

All I´m saying is, don´t get your hopes up like I did.

ps: to those that said this album is dark and especially to the fool that

said this album is violent, I just have one thing to say,

    RUN HOME TO YOUR MOTHER!

  8. To me the entire beauty of Robot.O.Chan is its subtlety.

Full-on trance tells its story with loud FX and melodies,

Prometheus has a much more subtle, almost sublimenal

    way of creating a soundscape.

You could compare listening to this album like taking a hit

of strong acid. It creeps up on you when you least expect

it and it takes you into a world of its own.

Look at track 8, U.R.Beautiful. This is one of my favourite

tracks, but it specifically demonstrates my point. Its got a

lot of FX and a cool bassline and whatever, but what really

makes you trip is the stuff thats happening in the background.

Theres this synth going off that first sounds very tribal and

plain, but as the song evolves so does the sound and the

end result is a highly original and really psychedelic way

    of carrying a song.

Prometheus has his own style and you either get it or you

don´t. To me this is anything but normal trance. This is so

far from full on its not even funny. This is the opposite of

full on. This is subtle, highly psychedelic, highly original

    music.

I´ve been listening to Misted Muppet since I got my cd the

other day and I really like it, it´s killer music, but comparing

it to Prometheus is like comparing apples and pears.

It´s the opposite end of the spectrum.

Both artists are great at what they do, but personally I find

Prometheus to be much more psychedelic, emotional and

well it just hits my g spot and it feels really good.

It has a hallucinogen like quality in the sense that it´s music

for the mind, more than for the body. It looks like a lot of

people that are into the trance scene these days only care

about fat beats and that´s cool, but I prefer music with

substance, music that expands the mind. To me full on acts

like Skazi and whoever is the most unoriginal and boring

kind of trance you get. I know a lot of people disagree, but

i think most full on being released today is utter shite.

    nuff said.

    irie

  9. screw that yo, this album is nothing less than classic.

it´s on a much higher level than most full on releases

today and it even tops hallucinogen in my opinion.

every song has a story to tell, every sound is deliberate.

i think this is maybe the kinda music that you either love

or dont love. hehe. but forreal i´ve been listening to trance

for a long time and this is definately something special.

i look forward to prometheus´ next cd.

this guy speaks with a visual language.

  10. and i was almost getting bored of trance.

to me Robot.O.Chan, Prometheus´ debut cd, is

like a revolution of the genre.

    it opens another door.

its not just good. its fucking good.

i see there´s talk that the mised muppet cd is considered

the best release of the year already and i must admit i havent

properly heard their cd thats why i ordered it, but it

wont matter, because Prometheus is GOD.

he has the most creative style and superb production

skills which puts him up with label mate Hallucinogen

as one of the best producers in psytrance. i cant say

enough good things about this guy he is a genius.

the cd itself is a masterpiece. the first song starts off

scary and slow so you dont know what to expect for

the first minute or so, then a robotic syntho snare drum

beat kicks in and you realize expectations dont matter.

it turns into a haunting trip through lala-land that you

definately wont get out of your mind.

from the second song on it gets feisty, up on all fours

ready to fight and it does. the first taste gives us a feel

of prometheus´ style, while getting the groove on.

the second gives way to the primal flavours previously

hinted at. the tribe has spoken.

tribal groove all the way until a cyborg voice kicks in

and announces his presence. apparently the comp uter´s

    insane. or is it unsane?

this album is the shit. im full of shit.

    buy it.
