  1. anything by OTT Vibrasphere - Abra Battle of the Future Buddhas - Leprechaun War Dub Dub Trees ... and probably a lot more that I'm not aware of... not much but it's a start SMI²LE
  2. there are none... Battle of the Future Buddhas are unique... the only CDs you could find with this kind of music are their older (but better IMO) album Twin Sharkfins and their compilations Schlabbaduerst Records 1 - 4 (check out the reviews section on this site). There's also an incoming Ka-Sol album (IMO even darker than the BotFB style) but we're still waiting for it to be released. And, once you're done with all those, check out the Third Trip compilation on Parvati Records, not exactly the same thing, but still some pretty dark "industrial" goa... BTW one of the members goes around this forum under the name D-Dave, if he's still around... don't hesitate to say hi :-D BTW D-Dave, if you're still there: Hi man!! You really scared the shit out of me at PLUR 4!! he he but it was still all good ;-D SMI²LE
  3. just wondering... with all that dub made by psy artists hitting us lately, shouldn't we coin a new term for it? SMI²LE
  4. well IMO nothing suggests "future world" and "advanced technology" better than oldschool goa... I guess somehow this relation became rooted in our psyche SMI²LE
  5. hey hey we haven't had a good ol' minimal Vs. oldschool debate in a long time now!!! Well, to answer your question, jyxx, I agree with you totally. I mean, I have moments where I dig the new stuff out there and think it's good, but then I'd put on some old AP/ Prana/ Transwave/ Asia 2001/ etc... and think that the new releases are SHIT compared to that. But I guess that the main argument is that goa from 96 was soo evolved and perfect, it was impossible to progress any further in that direction so people had to come up with something new... something less perfect... ah well, you always have your old CDs to listen to... I mean, some people are still stuck in the 60s/ 70s and only listen to music from that period, so what's wrong with being stuck in 96? ;-D SMI²LE
  6. freaky stuff dude... SMI²LE
  7. But but... while she's raving there's a focus on an article saying "Partying in the streets as Canabis is legalized" and then there's a big flag with "Stop the cannabis prohibition"... But IMO she's too fucked up to know what she's raving about... SMI²LE
  8. BTW I may be off here, but I got the impression that the screaming lady was protesting for the legalisation of cannabis. Right? SMI²LE
  9. "The main issue here is the words of wisdom said by the sadhus, Goa Gil, Raja Ram amongst others and try to enlighten us. " THAT'S WHY I WAS DISSAPOINTED!!! The movie doesn't seem to "communicate" some deep message, just random bits of information, some interesting, some not, but like I said, it laks structure IMHO... SMI²LE
  10. damn how can a record label go bust after releasing an AP album??? I thought they were capable of selling their weight in gold... SMI²LE
  11. didn't novatekk release AP's latest album? and I'm pretty sure Dragonfly's still around SMI²LE
  12. well IMO this could be watched in 2 ways: 1. for the music and visuals and 2. for the information given on the psy scene and stuff that is linked to it. Now I found the concept failed in both aspects: 1. for the music... definately not enough CGIs and the interviews ruined the flow of the music 2. for the information... like I said, they just took random clips from interviews without making it go anywhere and yes, I agree that the part on protesting was a bit too far-off. But I've only seen it once, maybe it's the kind of stuff that grows on you... SMI²LE
  13. So has anyone seen this? I was kinda dissapointed actually, I felt it was a bit too "random", the interviews didn't seem to lead to a general conclusion... background music was good though... SMI²LE

    Joujouka - New Asian

oops, "The remix from Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax d still others are just plain awfull, so is some clubby-salsa track Let the Wave Flow." was supposed to read "The remix from Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax is just plain awfull, so is the track Let the Wave Flow" which has a clubby-salsa feeling".

    Joujouka - New Asian

"First track is called in Japanese..." ROFL!! "Intro" is a Japanese word now?? I do agree that the cover fits the music though. I mean, this could very easily be a manga soundtrack CD!! Actually, when I first listened to it, that was the feeling I had. anyways... this is no psy... only track that sounds remotrly like psy is E-wire which has a dark-industrial feeling to it (BPMs around 120, yet harsh sounding and very hypnotic) me likey very much!! An excelent party-starter IMO. Now for the rest... well, Image sounds like Chemical Brothers and New Asians sounds like... Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg!!! (I could almost hear "Yeah and you don't quit/ Cause it's 187 and the undercover cop), or the remake of Cypress Hill (I ain't going out like that), anyway it sounded pretty cool, reminded me of my gangsta rap days and I guess this is the first time any psy artist does anything remotely like rap. The remix from Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax d still others are just plain awfull, so is some clubby-salsa track Let the Wave Flow. All the Angels is very down-tempo and sweet, reminded me of Massive Attck, so did The World. You Wanna Tease Me sounds like some experimenta alternative. X-rock sounds again like some cheezy dance song (female sample going "I'm hot for you"), but joujouka took care of it so it sounds pretty interesting in the end. Don't think feel sounds like a Joujouka reinterpretation of the popular James bond theme!!! All in all very varied album, which sounds like Joujouka having fun with well-known genres and doing interesting remixes, albeit not psy at all. 8/10

    Asia 2001 - Amazon

BEST Asia 2001 album IMO!!! Just to say that I listened recently (writing this in 2003) Vertige in a morning set at a goa party and it was THE best track from the whole party!! Yes, it's THAT good!! People were going crazy and smiling and doing crazy moves. other tracks are very good too 10/10
  17. very underestimated artist IMO. This is one of the best psy albums I have!! It's some very mellow psy, which turns to chill-out at times, but incredibly trippy, with loads of oriental influences. All tracks are very well built, melodies have a nice progression. Best tracks: Buddha Raga (BTW don't let the title fool you, it isn't reggae at all, not even dub!!) and Journey To Hunabku which kinda reminds me of TIP - Mystical Experiences. 10/10 oh and also I don't think this should be compared to Shpongle, I find it's quite different from the Shpongle style, so don't think it's some sort of bad imitation or anything.
  18. dark pumping psytrance for those late-night hours in a party. Like Parasense - Avangard album, whether you apreciate this compilation or not is a question of the equipement and circumstances you're listening it in. Meaning : huge speakers + subwofer+ dancefloor= good; little speakers + home-listening = ... not too good... so I'll let you decide on this one... my top-pick is Psychotic Micro : Gravedigger

    Parasense - Avangaro

BTW, I just blew up my speakers yesterday while listening to Stop the Sickness, so that restates my saying on how powerfull Parasense's bassline is
  20. Definately one for Neuromotor/ESXS fans!! (BTW if I'm not mistaken, Mechanik Sound is Neuromotor's label?). Another one of those compilations you have to listen to LOUD!! Don't agree with Inseijn that the Skazi and Exale track is ridiculous, actually I find it one of the best tracks on the compilation!! Very cool hypnotic bass, with reminiscences of ESXS, then a typical Skazi guitar-sample near the end of the track. Other highlights for me are the Xenomorph and Talamasca tracks. Xenomorph puts in a KILLER melody near the end of his track, absolutely insane, I just put it over and over again, while Talamasca seems to put in more and more oldschool in his tracks since The Secret of the 13 Crystal Skulls... I can't wait to hear his new album!! One thing I don't like about this comp (and about like 90% of psy releases our days): why oh why only put a climax in the last minute or 2 or the tracks??? We want more!!! 8/10
  21. Menog - Natural Behavior Artist: Menog Title: Natural Behavior Label: Starsound Date: 2003 Track listing: 01. Someone Else 02. Metamorfose 03. The Others 04. Acid Trip (Rmx) 05. Brahma 06. Natural Behavior 07. Menog 08. Nameless Fear Review: Incredible album from Menog!!! Very dark melodic album, using loads of sample-melodies from horror movies (or melodies that sound like sample-melodies from horror movies...). I mean, thechnically this is psy, but it could just as easily be the soundtrack to some new horror movie he he Problem here is that almost all the tracks sound more or less the same, namely kinda like Dark Nebula - Black Beauty (on 100% Pure Brainwater, remember that one?), and this in spite the fact that most of the tracks are collaborations between Menog and other artists!! But who cares? this sounds soooo good!!! I couldn't really pick out a favorite track since they all sound very similar, but I guess Nameless Fear stands above the others. 8/10 (only 8 because there's little variation between songs)

    V/A - Drug Therapy

Stoney's right,Popfreak is a cover of "L'été indien". and the best track on the compilation IMO!! the others are very good too, evil trance destinated for the dancefloor... and, as the name says it... drugs!! 9/10
  23. Flying Scorpions - Lipoptena Cervi Artist: Flying Scorpions Title: Lipoptena Cervi Label: 6 Dimension Sound Date: 2003 Track listing: 01. Avari (Raivovajari Mix) 02. Diskosuper 03. Rave On ! 04. Evil Hippie Sock Revenge 05. They Love Fucking You Up 06. We R The Hirvikarpaset 07. Flying Scorpions (All Over The Place) 08. Bush Attack 09. Victory Of The Scorpions 10. Who Are They ? 11. Equadoor 12. Let Us Free 13. Ruskababa 10 Years Review: Cool, I'm the first to review this one Well, you might not know Flying Scorpions, but you should, they're very very good!! Why? Well, they manage to do 2 major things in this album which very few artists can: 1. it sounds happy without sounding cheezy and 2. it sounds wierd without sounding random!! My 2 loves are Avari.. a total stormer, it will make people on the dancefloor go insane!! and Victory of the Scorpions which has a very catchy melody, the kind you hear near the end of a goa party and then go home whisteling it... untill you forget it and think "damn, what was that cool melody again?" he he another good one is Evil Hippie Sock Revenge... interesting reinterpretation of oldschool goa... and again, totally insane!! You can see that these guys don't do anything conventional: even the track lenghts are unusual for psytracks: almost all the songs are between 4:20 and 5:30 minutes!! Hmm... I could've gone with lenghtier tracks personally... but what I like is that they totally abandon the too-typical and annoying structure of (maybe) 20 second mini-climax in the first 2 minutes, then nothing happens untill the 40-second climax in minute 5 and then nothing again. None of this here, you get continuously-morphing melodies from one end to the other!! 10/10 when innovation sounds GOOD!!
  24. I don't care if Cosmosis was involved in this, it sucks!! There are only 3 good tracks in here: Jax back, Fishbone and the last downtempo track, Speaking in Tongues... the rest are just plain boring... 6/10
  25. hmm... I was a bit too hasty with my review... after a few more listens this sounds pretty mediocre actually... if you want that oldschool sound, I advise you go with Astrix - Eye to Eye or the new Secret of the 13 skulls compilation. I still find it has it's moments but it definately isn't the masterpiece I thought on the first few listens... ah well, that's what coming out of a minimal/ dark psy trauma that lasted for 2 years does to you 6/10
