  1. oh and here's a copy-paste of my reply in a similar topic about a month ago. I'm so proud of this post that I felt it would be a loss for humanity if it got lost in the old topics :-)))) "here's my list of "sub-genres" (not perfect, you can always find flaws cause any clasification method is bound to show its limits, but like Aaron said, I find it good to say what sub-genre a person likes so he/ she can find CDs he/ she likes more easily) morning trance: well, there are 2 categories in there... sub-subgenre 1 is the "real" morning trance as purists would say, rather slow BPM, never above 120 and very relaxed airy feeling, with a lot of nature samples. examples: Feuerhake, Kode IV, Zorba, Bodh Gaia, Element, Son of the Light, 1200 Micrograms - Ayahuasca... (this is also what comes closts to the "original trance" that was played in Goa in the early 90s) sub-sub-genre 2 (my favorite!!) , (also called israeli-trance cause most artists making it were from Israel, although this is changing now) is more dancefloor-oriented, the kind of music that's played in parties when the sun rises: fast, between 130 - 150 BPM, usually very emotional and "catchy". Usually you go home from a party having that tune in your head. Examples: Yahel - Last Man in the Universe, Chi AD- Eye am the I, Astral Projection - People Can Fly, Zorba - Datora, Space Tribe Vs. Electric Universe - Alkaloid Experiement, Transwave - The Rezwalker, UX - Masters of the Universe, Ra -ROM, Dimension 5, Man With No Name - Teleport... (you can probably tell by the tracklist that this is what was usually called "goatrance" around 1996 by record labels that thought they coined a new "hip" term) 3D Vision-style/ Full-on (called like this because the label "3D Vision" specialized in this kind of music, but then they were copied by many labels): fast 140- 150 BPM, melodic but more harsh-sounding, more on the agressive side of things (and some would say "more E-oriented"). Examples: Talamsaca - Come On, Absolum - Drumatrix, Nomad, GMS, Alien Project... Minimal/ Psy-tekk: more techno-influenced, a lot less "challenging" then the other styles, more bass-driven. This style hit us around 1998, and some loved it and considered it was a welcome change to the usual melodic stuff, others (like me...) found it had nothing to do with "psy". Untill this year, about 80% psy releases were minimal, but this is changing now. Anyway, that doesn't mean you can't find artists that are doing good stuff... Examples: X-Dream - Radio (the one that started it all IMO), Kopfuss Resonator, Shiva Chandra - Gecko, MOS - Drive,... Nitzhonot - Well, most people will say this isn't really psy... it's done mostly in Israel and Greece and it sounds like kids playing around with cartoon-samples and melodic psy ideas, but not something very coherent. It's sorta like melodic/ israeli trance pushed to the limit of commericalism. Examples: Eyal Barkan, Holy Men, Cyan,... Industrial goa - Harsh, dark-soudning goa, with distorted noises, fast, indsutrial-inflenced. Examples: Battle of the Future Buddhas, Tim Schuldt - Single Collection, Ka-Sol,... Finish trance/ aussie trance/ Psyharmonics stuff: (called like this cause most artists doing it are from Finland/ Australia/ or usually release their stuff on the labe Psyharmonics): Very wierd trance, with a lot of crazy and innovative ideas, very random, doesn't seem like it's "going somewhere". Some love it, others utterly hate it. Examples: Texas Faggot, Haltya, early Space Tribe, Shaolin Wooden Men, Loopus in Fabula, Odd Harmonic... ... well, there you go, this isn't perfect, but it will allow you to clasify about 90% of the releases out there..." SMI²LE
  2. so then in which category do you put in Shaolin Wooden Men, Anoebis ? ;-) SMI²LE
  3. I think that if you look back you'll find LOT of topics trying to split things in genres... SMI²LE
  4. hey how come someone posts in Romanian from Mars' server??? What's going on here???? SMI²LE
  5. "What ever view you get or don?t get from my review(s), you should definetly not ignore for it being that I happen to be always right" well well well... aren't we a little pretentious today, Traveller?
  6. First of all, from the little german I know, "blumenkraft" is German for "Flower Power" which I suppose was intended as a wink to the 60s psychedellia. As for the album... well... it's not as good as I expected it to be. Some parts sound like... Hallucinogen - In Dub (and like MG here, I found that In Dub got old fast, in spite of it sounding outstanding on the first few listens, so having something that sounds similar isn't really a good thing IMO) and other parts have too much arabic/ oriental influences than I'd like to hear. Well, it's not bad bad, but OTT made hiself such a reputation of "everything he touches turns into gold" that I can't help feeling dissapointed by his first album. 7/10
  7. Well I'll be damned... how come noone reviews them here??? SMI²LE
  8. they have an album??? I heard 2 of their tracks on Mana Medecine... and they were the best tracks there!! SMI²LE
  9. so is it supposed to be psy or what? SMI²LE
  10. Talamasca - Zodiac Artist: Talamasca Title: Zodiac Label: 3D Vision Date: 2003 Track listing: 01. Aries 02. Taurus 03. Gemini 04. Cancer 05. Leo 06. Virgo 07. Libra 08. Scorpio 09. Sagittarius 10. Capricorn 11. Aquarius 12. Pisces Review: Yes it?s Talamasca and he?s back on 3D Vision !! This is a pretty original album concept which some will probably consider as "childish", but at least it has the merit of ?never have been done before?. Here you?ll find 12 pumping full-on tracks which continue Talamasca?s trend started on Secret of the 13 Crystal Skulls of adding that old-school touch to the usual 3D Vision sound. It all sounds very good, although 12 tracks in the same style and virtually same BPM can become tiresome on the ears (you guessed it, this one?s more oriented for DJ use on the dancefloor than home listening?). BUT the problem here IMHO is that Talamasca has given us such excellent tracks in the past like Come On, Sinai and Telepathic Atmospheres that I?m afraid to say, remain unequalled by ANY track on this album!! Well, at least it?s better than Musica Divinorum IMO. My favourite tracks are Cancer (now that's oldschool!!), Virgo and Scorpio, but, like I said, I expected more from Lestat? 8/10
  11. yes it's minimal, but it's morning-oriented (not dark) so it's not that bad :-) Actually there are some tracks like Splud which I really like!! 7/10
  12. Wizzy Noise - Elecktro Theater Artist: Wizzy Noise Title: Elecktro Theater Label: Candyflip Date: 2003 Track listing: 01. Radical Payne 02. Screwheads (Rmx) 03. Elecktro Theater 04. Paradise Lost 05. Mental Discipline 06. Demented Drum (Part 1) 07. Timeline 08. Demented Drum (Part 2) 09. Dream Wave 10. Outmosphere Review: Wizzy Noise was riding high on the dark psy wave started a few years ago... but now times have changed and the trend is now more favourable to more "happy" or "sunny" goa. And Wizzy Noise have followed this new trend with this album... copy cats? well, I'll let you decide on that, what I know is that I don't really appreciate dark goa unless it's very well done, so personally I like the new turn of events :-) Well, OK, it's not all happy, but overall the whole album feels a lot more fit for the morning hours rather than 3-4 AM like their previous ones. Fave tracks are Paradise Lost, Demented Drum Part 1 and Dreamwave. 8/10 (cause I don't like trend-followers...)
  13. "It ain't over 'till the fat lady sings... And she is nowhere in sight!" Now that you mention it, we haven't seen Mad in quite some time now... SMI²LE now that's just mean
  14. "but allowing public access to one of these features for a week or two just to see how things go would be good" err... that's why they became moderated!!! People were posting so much crap in there... most of the times the "reviewers" never even listened to the artist!!! (check out Elysium's albums reviews to get a picture of what would happen). But of course, reviews with a lot of crap in them are better than no review section at all SMI²LE
  15. "Same guy at the same party; raises his arms high up in the air, starts running like a mad man and vanishes into the woods. Didn't saw him for the rest of the party." LMAO!!!!! SMI²LE
  16. ROFL!! You people crack me up!!! Well, the wierdest thing I've ever seen was when 2 of my friends tried acid at a party. About a year ago, they were in the army together and went on a mission to Bosnia. So at the party they made some sort of trip like they were on new military mission or something. At one point we were in the chillout room and suddenly the 2 friends get up and say "That's it! We're going in!!", like they were preparing for the adventure of their lives without knowing if they'll ever come back alive again. I asked them "You're going were?" one of them replied that they're going in the main room to get their jackets back. They look eachother in the eyes and say "OK, this is it, we're going!!" and open the doors of the main room and run inside like they were some commando troop prapairing to storm the enemy headquarters!! I laughed my ass off!! BTW in the main room a certain band called Battle of the Future Buddhas were playing... SMI²LE
  17. funny you'd say that cause I just posted a topic in the off-topic forum wondering if this site wasn't dead. If you think about it, the only functioning section is the forum... New reviews haven't been updated in like a month, contest is down, Interviews section is down, Favourites section is down, Artists infos is down... I mean, they still work, but they haven't been updated in a long long time... SMI²LE
  18. well, it's pretty much alive in Belgium (thank God for that!!) SMI²LE
  19. hey, I sent one too but like you say it seems this site is dead... ah well, here's a copy-past of mine: "Yes it’s Talamasca and he’s back on 3D Vision !! 20. So are there any more vids in the genre out there? I heard there was one called Vision Quest. Anyone seen that one? SMI²LE
  21. hmm...it may have been hot in 02 when about 90% new releases were minimal but in 03 with all the killer full-on that has hit us, this compares as rather mediocre... Sorry, but except for Online Opus and Mind Refund, nothing really stands out of the crowd... 6/10
  22. well, I was impressed by Tara in Project - Trance n tallica, released also on Chakradelic. Horay for this new label, they seem to really know what people want!! SMI²LE
  23. "Battle of the future Brothers"... damn, now how did that get in there??? And what happened to the SenstatuX between the >---<??? Did someone fuck around with my post?? SMI²LE
  24. >----<: IMO there is no such thing as "scando sound". I mean, what the hell do Miranda, Battle of the future Brothers and Hux Flux have in common??? But as I said, everyone can make up their own categories... SMI²LE
