Yes, some Psy has changed and replaced the trippy elements. But if you truly believe any one genre to be more intellegent than the other, then that's an insult to your own intelligence. The thematic content and nature of various genres don't depict their intellegence. It's purely subject to the listener. You should allow people to enjoy what they have a preference for without being prejudice, like they should allow you to do the same. It is by a group called Barely Legal consisting of Paul Maddox & Guy Mearns. I don't think it's awesome ... but like it enough and would play this in a Hard Dance set. I don't think there's anything "cheesy" about it at all. I promise you that this tune will feature in a lot of Hard Dance to Psy cross-over sets & on compilations by Hard Dance DJ's ... and yeah I'll agree, the person that would be dancing/listening this in a club will most likely be using E or similiar, if they do drugs at all. Hahaha. If it was in Mixmag, then it's all over. I really do apreciate the unique sound of Psy but as said previously, Hard Dance is my first love. Even so, I must admit that a large part of me is not fully comfortable with some of the producers & DJ's showing an interest in Psy. It's mostly because the interest wasn't sparked by a genuine understanding or love for Psy. Like it happens in any genre really, Hard Dance's previous influence was on it's last legs and the genre needed a fresh direction. Psy elements it will be. The other part of me is really excited about the possibilities, especially because I enjoy both genres. I just hope the market won't be filled with a load of shit. Which, in your opinion, might very well be the case. You must remember that these tracks will be released within the Hard Dance domain, so I really doubt you'll hear someone playing it at a Psy gig. I understand Psy is far more complex than this sort of track and way trippier, but then again, this track doesn't intend to be Psy, trippy or extremely complex. It uses the same formula as in Hard Dance with slight elements of a Psy-sounding programmed synth riff. That's all it intends to do. At then end of the day, it still stays Hard Dance, which means you lot wouldn't have to worry too much about it infiltrating your scene. Yes, I know very well how many opinions float around here, which is why I can safely say the Psy community is far more purist than any other genre. Which ... is not always a bad thing. But when there is such large scale bickering, then it's not exactly a good thing either. I'm into Psy too, very much so ... but I have a lot of time for other genres, people & perspectives as well.

Agreed. I also prefer to have a bit of both. I guess I'm lucky enough to apreciate anything from Horror/Dark through Full On/Melodic to Ambient and back.

I'm not really probing any territory because I know exactly how picky (and segregated for that matter) the psy dance community is. I've been into Psy since the end of '96 and I've been coming to this site regularly over the last 5 years ... I've just never bothered to join the forums, but I read it and know all about the subgenre wars. It's really not unlike the Techno community (and I do mean the actual genre Techno, not the generic name given by ignorant observers to anything with a 4 to the floor beat), who's forever quarreling about which substyle is "more intelegent"/"better produced"/"more original"/or whatever. Again, I'm honestly after opinions. Opinions about Psy influencing Hard Dance ... (is this record skipping?) You forget this track is produced by Hard Dance producers, who have simply taken from Psy-Trance and added similiar sounding elements into their own production. At the end of the day, this track has been released into the Hard Dance domain ... For HD fans that also enjoy Psy (and there are fucking loads of us). This is not meant to appeal to a Psy-Trance purist, and even less to genre nazi's within the Psy community who bicker amognst themselves over Full On & Progressive .... But, if it does appeal to the open-minded person that perhaps just might be into a slice of Hard Dance as well, then I think that's pretty neat. You also forget that I mentioned Psy is influencing Hard Dance ... which is generally harder, more formulaic and definately not as experimental as Psy. It's got nothing to do with being more hardcore, fear, anger and suffering. It (thematic content & structure) is the nature of the genre. On a production level, a few has mentioned that it sounds cheap and badly made, which is kind of interesting if you take in consideration that the two producers that wrote this track are both very popular within Hard Dance. One is an in-house producer/engineer (and in high demand on engineering duties from most the top producers in the scene) at one of the largest and longest standing Hard Dance labels in the scene. They're both very young and unexperienced compared to average age of the Psy stars, yet they're both highly revered in their own scene ... for their productions. So like I said, it's interesting to hear that the track sounds cheap/bad. (You do know that the sample I a is a 64kbps mp3 though, yeah ? - If anyone's interested in a higher quality sample, just ask.) Not quite, but they do hail Astrix & Eskimo. In fact, these two (plus a handful of others) have been charted by some of the top London Hard Dance DJ's who are pushing psy onto the crowds. To them Atrix, Eskimo, Atral Projection, Skazi, etc. are the perfect cross-over material to blend with Hard Trance ... and it's proving to be popular in clubs. I've been amazed at how much of the Hard Dance community who used to scream "hippy bullshit", has now turned around and expressed a liking towards Psy. It's smacks of band-wagon jumping by pretentious idiots (even to me, who's meant to be "on their side" if you consider Hard Dance to be my first love, which it is obviously) ... but I was really asking your opinion ...

I apreciate it will not be to everyone's tastes & I expected some genre nazi's to get riled up. But keep on track here. Hard Dance is not influencing Psy, it's the other way around. As for it being like Full On, sure ... that's what Hard Dance is - In your face. The sample I posted is not meant to be complete psychedelica. It's simply a reference point ... One that points out the psy influence in Hard Dance. I'm not asking anyone to like it (well, maybe if your into Finnish Freeform like Carbon Based, Pain On Creation & Alek Szahala, then this sorta thing might be down your street ... although much slower, think Hard Trance with a Psy twist) ... I'm just wondering what the Psy community thinks of 'their' music influencing other genres ? I ask this question because I've found the Psy dance community to be more purist-minded than any Techno purist I've ever engaged, so yeah ... I'm curious to know what the general opinion is.

I'd be interested to know what you all think of Hard Dance (a stupid umbrella name for a collective of genres including mostly UK based Hard House, Hard Trance, Nu NRG, Hard NRG & Hardcore/Freeform) ... being influenced by Psy Trance as much as it has been over the last months ? More and more DJ's are morphing Hard Trance &/or NRG with Psy Trance in their sets and it's especially popular amongst a few big name London based Hard Dance jocks. There's been a few attempts on the production front to fuse some of these genres together and in my opinion, THIS is the first succesfull cross-over. Albeit still very 'Hard Dance' orientated, it's definately exciting for fans of both camps. I'd like to hear your thoughts on Psy filtering into Hard Dance & the sample I posted.

Not going to repeat what many of you said, so I'll simply say this; This new album is un-fuckin-believable ! It's a grandiose journey of immense proportions, intellegently crafted into a phenomenal soundscape, dripping with every bit of brilliance I expected from Sphongle ... and more ! Love it !! Not (a) God to me as such, but I'll agree to the fact that he is without doubt, the single most awe-inspiring producer I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. For sheer sonic sculpting and audio production qualities, there are not many that come close to Posford ... accross many a genre (I'm what you could call a passive PsyTrance fan with main interests in other electronic genres). An audio genius, for sure.
