  1. hey there everyone it has been quite an intense year for us, a lot of stuff happened and we learned a lot from the good and bad things. we grew up a lot as artists and persons and we wanted to let you know whats up in the megalopsy world. On the good side Trishula Records released our album, The Abstract Machine in February 2005 and we got a lot of great vibes from people all around the globe, we had the luck of being invited to play to a lot of parties here in Argentina and also a couple of times in Brazil (Porto Alegre and Curitiba)and we also started our own label, Dark Prisma, were we released Amalgama, the first psytrance compilation with argentinian artists. On the bad side We lost a member in our band, Li for personal reasons decided to leave the band around March. This was a hard time as we spent a lot of time with him doing music when we did Abstract Machine, but in the end this was the best decision. We had a great time and we wish him the best, we learned a lot from him and we hope he keeps doing good music. This changed a lot of things for us, but it also made us focus more on doing parties, starting the label and help the scene in Argentina. Nowadays z1p is preparing his solo album as Frantic Noise, a project which also has some collaborations with local artists such as Pragmatix and Collapse, and also a Megalopsy track, it will be released soon via our label Dark Prisma. I have also been exploring downtempo and dub with Pragmatix, in a project called Prismatix, sounds that will be printed soon in our label. We are also doing new Megalopsy tracks and preparing a new live set as we are planning to invade the european continent this summer check out whats going on in the other side of the ocean. You can check out more info of whats going on in our sites http://www.megalopsy.com.ar http://www.darkprisma.com.ar You can also check out our profile over here http://www.darkprisma.com.ar/megalopsyprofileng.pdf see you soon
  2. Taken from psyreviews.com Compiled by the Megalopsy boys, Amalgama is the first compilation from Argentina, and a definite sign that things there are on the up. After Prismatix’s swirly intro, Frantic Noise open up with the chunky, pleasing Blues Brothers (remix). It’s got a fairly snarly vibe to it, the bass is definitely in keeping with harsh, mushroomy nighttime music, but with a more accessible topend edge. It’s a pretty good cover of the Blues Brothers theme, with a few extra added twinks. Not bad. Prismatix’s Tallarins With Tea plods, as does Pragmatix’s Relacion De Esencias. Nothing wrong with these tracks, the sounds are fine and everything but… they just don’t have a lot of energy to them. Pragmatix is half-saved by a nice, mesmerising ending section but it’s lost its punch by the time it drops properly. Much more interesting is Cosmos Vibrations’ Genoma, which is the best newskool oldskool track yet. It’s got phasing like Infinity Project, and the balance of the sound plus the way the melodies don’t so much layer as conspire, all makes it sound very exciting, very fresh. Like finding an undiscovered gem: in fact, I would go so far as to suggest that we all submit our copies of Tip Yellow to have it re-pressed with this track included. Durbamata’s This Field is a quirky one, it has that rumblerumble bass and layers fairly odd sounds over the top – sounds a bit like you left an oldskool Talamasca out in the forest for a couple of nights with only a water canteen, spiked with LSD. Best track on the album alert: Frantic Noise vs Pragmatix’s Balada Hardtrance. It has everything you need. From the opening rumbles you know it’s going to be a belter. Deep, bubbling, with a great balance beteren hellish nighttime and melody-driven oldskool psy. The riffs are individual and effective, the sucks-you-in motion is strong, and its final run is an utterly sublime little magic carpet ride to hades (in a good way). Perfect. Up next, psyreviews’ serial 2005 favourites Megalopsy, and Megalupis is full of what I love about these fuckers. Deep, swirling stuff that almost makes you forget how frantically you’re dancing. The wedge here is more over to the manic side, and I’m sort of reminded of older dark-matter stuff; with edgy, fairytale melodies sitting uneasily over the top. Genius. Mindprobe’s Where Do They Come From has a very acidy, lysergic wobble going on. Pretty nice stuff, and incredibly clever in the way it moves around, but I can see its relentless topend getting a bit much for most pairs of ears. Finally, Prisma step forth with possibly the most worrying track on here… Goblin Twist is a wonderfully fucked-up piece of music, that I would urge every chillout DJ to play so they can get all the people who are “peaking a little bit too much” out and off the fucking beanbags and back into the mainroom where they belong. It’s like every horror film you’ve ever seen coming back to scare the shit of you. All at the same time. A nice ending to a patchy album, basically: there’s some great stuff here, and while the remainder are mostly interesting and slightly quirky tunes, it’s not an essential purchase. 7

  8. V/A - Amalgama (Dark Prisma/Transition) Psytrance from Argentina amalgam: fig. mixture of heterogeneous elements An amalgam is a fracture of the plan, an unexpected result, a cosmic exception. diverse elements are taken and joined, forming a completely new component. The result exceeds the sum of the parts, a new dimension is created. Amalgam of different energies flowing towards the same direction, amalgam of sound explorers analyzing the same plane. Amalgama is the first psychedelic trance compilation from Argentina, realesed by Transition Records and Dark Prisma Records. Transition Records made their start with Obscure Process, the first official release of Mindprobe, one of the cornerstones of the psytrance scene in Argentina. Dark Prisma is the child of z1p and Filter from Megalopsy, which will be focused on releasing underground vibes fron latin america and the rest of the world. The compilation features all argentinian artists such as Mindprobe, Megalopsy, Pragmatix, Durbamata and Cosmos Vibrations, as also the solo projects from z1P of Megalopsy under the name Frantic Noise, the solo project from Filter of Megalopsy called Prisma, and collaborations of both of them with Pragmatix. Thus giving this release a unique blend of several styles of psychedelic trance which add up to a very fresh and innovative compilation. Tracklist: 01- Prismatix - Preludio 02- Frantic Noise - Blues Brothers (twist mix) 03- Prismatix - Tallarins with Tea 04- Pragmatix - Relacion de Esencias 05- Cosmic Vibrations - Genoma 06- Durbamata - The Field 07- Frantic Noise vs Pragmatix - Balada Hardtrance 08- Megalopsy - Megalupis 09- Mindprobe - Where do they come from? 10- Prisma - Goblin Twist From darkness to light, from downtempo to progressive, from full on to night passing through techno, this is a little taste of the wide spectrum that the psychedelic trance scene in Argentina has to offer, a fast-growing scene which is being populated everyday with more artists, dancers and musicians. Amalgama was compiled by z1P and Filter, produced by Jonas, mastered by Tim Schuldt at 4CN Studios, designed by Hocus and produced, printed and conceived in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
