  1. Not a review, just a suggestion.

I recently stumbled across Soli-Ohm (AKA Maxim Zadorin from Russia). His style is a blend of new school/old school psy/goa.

Soli-Ohm put out two free releases in 2010, Epistemology (an album) and Flashing Mindwarp (a 2 track EP). The free releases can be found at the links below.

Epistemology (11/2010) - Free album download from the Audiocast Productions netlabel

Flashing Mindwarp (8/2010) - Free EP download from the Psyderweb Records netlabel

If you enjoy this style, you might consider giving him a listen. I think he shows a lot of talent.

  2. Is ambient music more vulnerable to MP3 compression than other genres? Some of my ambient albums in 256/320 MP3 have mild background hiss and some breakup on the higher notes. I don't notice this problem with other types of music (such as psy trance or classical or acoustic), with similar MP3 bit rates, using the same playback settings and speakers. Is it just me, or is this really a potential issue?

  3. There's a lot to like in this release and Crossing Mind clearly has talent. However, the kicks get pretty monotonous at times and my attention starts to wander after a couple of tracks. Maybe that's because this is more of a compilation than a unified, organic album.

    8/10

  4. really one of the best goa albums I've heard in a while!

Any recommendations for other artists with kinda similar style?

If you like Artha and Hallucinogen you might consider Double Dragon - Continuum (which is probably a little more psy than goa).

Steve Good (DD) has recently released a remastered and expanded version of the original album.

  5. The "cheesy melody" in Human Loop sounds to be substantially based on the Hendrix song Third Stone From The Sun.

The best songs here are Missing Link, AI Hybrids, and Computerized.

DMT Cowboys is a much, much better album than this one.
