  1. Just replied to a review of Goa Vibes Vol. 1. Discogs says it's from 1995, but it's in the 1996 section. Am I wrong? Am I right? Or am I just dreaming?

Yes, I worked a tune from Erasure into my request for you to move the thread.

    You're welcome.

    3. Kundalini - SPECTRAL
    4. S.E.T.I - PSYCHAOS

Another review where I'm responding to Joske. Ah, he was so young then.

Parents who attend multi day festivals, have kids who attend multi day festivals. Stop this problem before it starts. Invest in a good set of headphones and stay home. Paid for by Sony and to a much lesser but greater douchebag extent, Beats by Dr. Dre.

    Now where were we...

"Do you believe in extra terrestrials?"

    ROjUmYg.jpg

    Go on...

Now this is classic goa trance right here my friends. Starting off with an absolute smash by some project named Astral Projection who will have quite a future if they stick with it.

Quadstep- Paul (Mr. Jackson if you're nasty) is the mind behind Genetic, but I won't hold that against him. This one pulsates with wicked energy becoming crunchy and mysterious.

    Kundalini- "Drifting through the galaxy..."

Ok I see where this is going. Shake your butt and layer town. Drifting through time and space with a detailed track this one is more than just a full-on smash. Deeper than that. I think Kundalini is Hindi for, "You better sit down, you're gonna be here for a while."

S.E.T.I.- "Do you believe in the existence of extra terrestrials?"

The ET theme continues with a bass line that seeks you out. Add the goa flares and this one has attitude. Multitudes of layers when this gets going and it is up front and in your personal space. Fantastic...they don't make 'em like dis no mo.

Born Again by Doof is his crowning achievement with bubbling synths that boil over until oops!...you got it all over yourself. Growling and shrieking at the same time he better be careful or he might twist that knob clean off.

Moonstone- Spectral again with something a little more on the tribal side. It's calmer than the previous tracks, but still maintains that spiritual vibe. Makes me think of the Heaven's Gate cult.

    72gVbFC.jpg

"I go to the pisser for 5 minutes and your pricks leave without me? And you drank all the kool aid you f*cks!"

Shambala- Their album Fear of a Red Planet is a classic for me and while not as chaotic this track has a dark tension. That chopped up melody gets me every time.

Sound Beams- "Sound beams produce a sympathetic vibration."

Just when your were starting to settle onto your cloud here comes Psychaos to tip you over. They are the Frontline Assembly of psytrance with a storming bass line and synths that are both sparkly and juicy. But that bass is the story. Get out the Doc Martins and fight conformity!

    BJQdhyu.jpg

I said Doc Martins. That's Doc McStuffins. My kid watches that. What happened to you?

Hyperspaced- Another outer space standard that combines the talent of Doof, Graham Wood, and HOLY SH*T Raja Ram is over 70! Is he even alive? One second, we're getting breaking news that...yes, he has been sighted. Cue video!

    uaoZXl7.gif

The effects make the track and while enjoyable it's not my favorite here.

Toxic Caterpillar- What about this track makes a caterpillar toxic. I've always been a little dubious of this project as I felt it doesn't hold a place with the true masters of the genre, but it has it's charm. And every caterpillar turns into a butterfly.

If it doesn't get eaten first that is.

Compiled by the Astral guys, I liked this one better than the first Psychedelic Vibes compilation. It came right out of the gate on fire and showed consistent quality throughout. Get it if you can, but it might be harder to find than the A-Team. But if you need help getting psychedelic...and you can find them...

Wow this is a big one. It's a lot to digest so I'll just try and throw some bullet points at you. This is a dark themed compilation that is free at Ektoplazm. Such a giver that guy. In the beginning while still dark it's more accessible night time full-on. As you get deeper into this it becomes more heavy. Darker. Ending with what can only be described as darkpsy composed while riding a speeding bullet.

Flashback sounded crystal clear with great production and who the hell doesn't want more Mario Brothers?

    GnKkx8m.jpg

Loosing Control didn't, it was steady and monotonous.

Quick Turn isn't very quick at almost 10 minutes and while I like it's gurgling style it needs more evolution.

Voltage Controlled Freak is mediocre full-on.

Mantrance is a really stupid name for this boring track. There is nothing "man" about it unless it's wearing a dirty wife beater while sleeping on the couch watching Beavis and Butthead amidst half empty pizza boxes.

Gaia Power really descended into the moaning of a female. And not the good kind.

The End doesn't get here fast enough. Filler.

Razors & Ice Cream (System Sequence mix)- The original was great from his 2nd album Dead End and this is a worthy remix. Full of power and acid.

Dreams- "I think it's become clear that our sinful ways have damaged the boundary between the living and the dead."

    IDc9ZkD.gifk3bRR2W.gif

If you're going do dream, do it big I say. Do you think he went Gameboy first? Amateur.

This hits the twilight button with lots of lasers. You like lasers.

We Have all the Power is more proper twilight psytrance with acid flying all over the place and bundles of high energy. One of the best here marred only by that painful buildup near the end.

Los Viajeros leans a little on the minimal side, but it eventually wakes up and becomes quite psychedelic.

Wrong Serenade- "Give her a little serenade, make her feel at home."

You wanna make her feel at home ask her what's for dinner.

Psychopsomatics- the people behind this one spent too much time trying to manually tune into a radio station. Meh.

Pumpen by Mr. Swedish Nightmare Tommy Axelsson keeps it dark with lots of echoing sounds and effects. Good one.

Darkness in my room is really dark. If hell had a soundtrack it might sound like this.

Power History is comprised of rumbly basses and Artifakt like abrasive sounds. Liked the funky breakbeat.

Against the Evil by Box of Evil...what do you think it's gonna sound like? Surprise! It wasn't as evil as I thought it would be. More twilight in style with too many stops and starts. There's still screaming samples in it if you like that sort of thing.

Better Stronger Faster- "We have the technology..."

    NffO7nc.jpg

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Not bad darkpsy track at all.

Just a Tiny Taste is a spooky and eerie darkpsy-esque track with some haunting strings. Just a small taste of what it would be like to get lost in an insane asylum after the inmates somehow got out.

Indigo Patrol is an exercise in speed. This is what someone on cocaine must feel like after 5 espressos. With a rocket surgically placed in his rectum. Super fast with sounds coming at you from all sides. By the time it was over I needed a cool down. Interesting to listen to, but not my cup of tea.

I didn't think this was so great. Of course darkpsy ain't exactly my thing. All the comments are overwhelmingly positive, so those posting seem to follow the "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" mantra.

Aren't you lucky I don't subscribe to that point of view.

    Title: The Persistence of Memory

    Label: Blue Hour Sounds

    1. Theory Of Big Bang - ONCE UPON A TIME PLAY

    2. Post 100 (Ianuaria rmx) - HUX FLUX

    3. Crystallised - GAIANA

    4. Hypnotic Quality - GIDO AND AVARA

    5. Jack The Tripper - AJJA VS FLOOTING GROOVES

    6. Outbound - ANTISPIN

    7. Hippy Hoop - MARK DAY

    8. Motoremoto - PEYO

    9. Movements - JARAMOGI AND NAIMA

    10. Expecto Patronum - FLOOTING GROOVES

When you say Blue Hour Sounds to me I think of two things. The multi-colored EP's and the exceptional Ianuaria Beware of the Fish album. This Italian label specializes in very detailed stuff with the psychedelic factor turned up to 11. So to see them with a new release I think it's fair to say that my expectations were pretty high. Mastered by Braincell (a guy who knows a thing or two about great psytrance) this album is one of storytelling, but without lots of twists and turns. Hypnotic and hallucinogenic, they supply pumping rhythms as the backbone and allow melodies to slither in amidst healthy effects and delay.

For the most part it's pretty psychedelic, but I felt it could've benefited from a bit more detail as there were some thin stretches in the tracks. Sometimes it seemed as if it lacked power or wasn't very dynamic. When you set the bar high it's difficult to maintain that level of quality. That said, there are portions where this is extraordinarily deep and involving. Don't know how that last track made the cut though as it didn't fit with the theme of the album. So it's a good comp if not a little disappointing. Not great, but good.

I apologize for neglecting those who are fans of the over the top imagery and mosh pit psytrance that this label brings. Usually when I see an album cover like the ones that frequent this label my palm goes to my forehead and I wonder why these guys have never grown up. These are the same type of people who would put naked ladies on the cover to entice young men into buying this.

But let's not judge a book by its cover.

Sure their covers are way over the top and the music sometimes falls into the cliche traps that the twilight genre suffers from. But if you're in the mood for some heavy hitting psy that trucks in boatloads of acid from chemistry lab, then this is for you. While the stops and starts will annoy some, in certain situations they are combined with samples and done quite well. I don't really need the samples implying man rape, but you know, whatever you're into. Groove is plentiful here as are leads that scream for you to move. And it's good that there is a lot of that here, because this music isn't designed for those looking for melodic layers. You're not going to discover the meaning of life with this release, but the cover should've told you that. If that's you, then this isn't for you. It's for those who've had a hard week at work and want to blow off some steam and break sh*t.

It gets insane and getting through a whole album of this style might prove difficult for some. Samey? Surely. But it's good, and some of the insanity that left a label such as Timecode has found a home right here.

  7. "You might catch yourself sliding into a hallucinatory state after this is all over...if you do, just relax and enjoy it."

So...TIP Records goes down, then you have TIP World. It subsequently goes down, and then Raja Ram resurrects TIP Records. Oh what a tangled web. This release was a quality psytrance bomb. Took full on, put the psychedelia back into it and then flirted with goa. That's how you get people to start paying attention. Lucas O'Brien (who as Lucas is on every track) cut his teeth during his tenure as label manager for Flying Rhino so one assumes he knows his way around the psychedelic world.

He delivers. Thumping beats, growling 303's, and more futuristic samples than you can shake a stick at. This came out when full-on was at it's height of...lowness. Generic, cut and paste drivel that hardly challenged the mind. Call this a kick down the door moment.

The Simon Posford bunnies I'm sure were out in full force as he makes an appearance with his typical way out there style. Still don't get the attraction of Eat Static, but that's just me. Every other track here is well done and oozes quality. Hard to find a physical copy though.

You sure are. Check out my magic as I bring this long dead b*tch back to life.

Here is an album from the golden age of goa compiled by Astral Projection. Remember them? Before they were a punchline they used to make some groundbreaking music. This was one of the first goa albums I heard and for a kid from New Jersey this stuff seemed strange and appealing. And like a sucker if you make a sequel I'm gonna check it out.

    Magic Carpet-

    OKE3puR.gif

    I'll have what he's having...

No clue who this is, but it could very well be the most...what's the word I'm looking for here...ethnic track ever. It just sounds like it comes from far away exotic locale. Pretty good, it's fast then slow, then fast again.

Babes on Broomsticks- If track quality is directly proportional to attractive women on broomsticks then, well...

    S5rSmHR.gif

Mission I- Our favorite Dane Kristian Andersen (not that one) the mind behind projects like Elysium, Sheyba, and Kailash to name a few joins forces with Mr. Infinity Project to make this odd bit of business. Bubbling sounds rising an falling and reverberating drops of whatever floats your boat amidst hollow kicks and grumbling goa riffs. Entertaining.

Antidote (Pleiadians Under the Roof Mix)- You know your top dog when you can take an absolute classic remix it and make it better. This is the class of the compilation as far as I'm concerned. Twisting and twirling leads that leave you so high up in the clouds you might never come down.

Psychoactivity- Masters X-Dream roll out a deliciously bubbly and hypnotic track that seems to go as far as the unreachable horizon. Love this psychedelic motherf*cker.

Next Stop Oblivion- I would swear these are the lost Posh Spice tapes depicting her rather tumultuous time with the band, including massive breast envy on her part whenever Geri Hallowell pranced around on stage in that form fitting Union Jack. Which would explain the purchase of her comically fake jugs.

    Jyp0aCS.gif

Good God I'd motorboat the sh*t out of her.

Look at her...hardly any room at that podium for poor Posh thanks to Geri's massive flapjacks. That's what happens when you cram yourself into your little sister's clothes I guess.

This track is on many compilations, but I'm not sure why. It has elements of some really good goa, but this mix has way too much talky talky on it as well as stops and starts. Usually skip it.

Clone III- This is a project of the X-Dream boys that sounds just like X-Dream. Dark and atmospheric it travels the progressive goa route. Liked it and would've liked it more if there was more evolution.

Aphrodite- Gene Joke is back with another very Israeli sounding goa track. And I don't have a problem with that. The melodies are fast and furious with a good balance between top and bottom ends. It gets a little off track at the end maybe even straying into crazy Nitzho territory. Don't know why Joske is such a hater.

    Ki0CUmT.gif

Brain Drain- Again with these guys? Are they Astral's dirty secret boy toys? There's usually a lot of dick sucking involved when you get three tracks on a compilation. Have to hand it to them though, all three haven't been pretty good. This one is more "trancey" than the others with the requisite tempo changes.

I thought this was pretty good. Not the greatest of course, but several tracks that I'm sure you guys have already stand out. The Pleiadians remix and X-Dream are the class of the album as you would expect, but unlike Joske I thought that Gene Joke gave a very respectable effort. I mean, they should they had three f*cking cracks at it. Pretty sure if you gave me three tries I could mumble something that might resemble Chinese.

Yeah, I went old school on you.

Wait a minute...that's new school. Old new school. Yeah, I took you to some kind of unfunded learning institution that has old textbooks and one computer in the teacher's lounge running AOL on dial up.

Kagdila Records is a USA label and I seem to remember some discussion where artists were unhappy with Mr. Shu-ki Golan. Probably didn't pay them. Great, more reasons to hate the US.

Anyway this was an early new school psytrance / goa trance compilation that for me doesn't get started until track number five. Oh there are four tracks before it, but like cold pizza if there's nothing else around I'll eat it. Just not my first choice. Or second. Hmmm....doesn't even rank in my top ten.

So that leaves 5 tracks by two projects. Might as well be a Sneila / Goasia EP. Hardly worth paying for a compilation, but I'm a completionist so I did. Flying Objects seemed like a revelation almost a decade ago with it's rolling synthline and at over 10 minutes you're in the clouds for a long time. Forest is pretty good with some quality detail if you listen. I just can't stomach that shanai sounding lead. Moving on to Ghetto it's full of sounds that you wouldn't hear on albums today, but it's diversity makes it a treat. The last Goasia track Paranoid is darker with an eerie atmosphere. The final Sneila track is a hands down growler of a beast. Dark and bubbly with undulating goa fire!

So there you go. Not a classic by any means, but it's an early arrow in the quiver of the blossoming new school movement.

  10. 20's were great, but the 30's are better. Hopefully you'll have a good job and a special someone to share your life with. I'm 41 (very soon to be 42) and still feel like I did when I was in my late twenties. Having kids was the best thing I've ever done and it's like watching a movie unfold before your eyes. Sometimes great sometimes aggravating, but always, always entertaining.

I look at the young people doing stuff and I wonder if I was ever that stupid. Take social media. I'm on Facebook, but I don't feel the need to share everything and every thought that goes through my head. Twitter? What's that?

No more parties, no alcohol, no drugs, no hookups...That's a young mans game and my life is so full that I don't miss any of that.

If there is one thing I can recommend when getting older and I cannot stress this enough. Exercise. Stay in shape. It will help you as the years go by.

    Full-on + Remixes = Full On Remixes.

It's not rocket science. The fact that this was released on Fineplay Records also tells a lot. After all this is the label that gave you

    Q8H3EJU.jpg

What the f*ck did you think was gonna happen?

Ok, several points to discuss here. Transwave are Absolum + Deedrah and were in tegral parts of what made the goa scene great in its heyday. Masters surely giving the people 3 albums of goa brilliance. But what they did here didn't sit well with most people. We can wish for a DAT style release of undiscovered gems or a Suntrip album of new goa trance material, but that doesn't look like it's happening.

And it definitely wasn't happening here.

Nope they decided to make full on remixes of some of their classic tracks, but didn't think that piece of info was necessary when labeling the tracks on the CD. So what you see are the names of the classic tracks. That is only done for one of two reasons. You're either stupid or dishonest. I'm leaning towards number 2.

They know that their audience is full of goa purists who would most assuredly pass on such an album tanking album sales.

So ok, let's get past their probably dishonesty. In a way it doesn't make sense because we have this thing called the internet and believe me word travels fast. What's the music like? First you have to take the name Transwave out of the equation, listen to this in a vacuum. If you go into this expecting goa remixes of classic tracks you're gonna wanna punch babies. This ain't goa and to be honest it's not very psychedelic either. It's pure full-on remixes as others have stated. Yes it's painful to see once revered masters go down this road, but let's not act like it hasn't happened before. MWNN and MFG I'm looking directly at you.

So...that's nut punch #2. We are now down to "Is it at least intelligent full-on?"

    Sometimes.

There are several original tracks that I thought were pretty good. Uplifter and Rising High were enjoyable pieces of light fare so you're thinking, "Ok Transwave you are now Melicia or Tetrium." I hate it, but I can accept it.

The problem I have is the same one everyone does. The remixes of some of their best tracks. They totally neuter X-Dream's Coming Soon removing anything that was remotely psychedelic. Trashish and that God-awful guitar riff were tolerable as a goa track, but as full-on it sounds like Afternoon Delight by the Starland Vocal Band on a perpetual loop. Makes me want to jump out a window.

    3ZPrvXE.gif

    "Wait for me muthaf*ckaz!"

When it comes to the Rezwalker and Cycles of Life, two anthemic goa tracks, they did well giving them depth with a myriad of effects and a break that is quite tasty. The twists and turns revealed that they are still capable of some intricacy. Stil it's like painting flames on a Bentley. Why the hell would you do that?

Land of Freedom takes an absolute classic and Paul Van Dyk's it up. The only thing missing is Sarah McLaughlin singing over top of it. Expect to see it in a commercial for the next must have product modeled by a gay guy in incredible shape showing disinterest in an emaciated female model with dark glasses while the wind fails to move his gelled coif.

Is this an attempt to showcase their new direction or a blatant and lazy cash grab? God help us it might be both. If you like full-on you could probably get by with this mediocre effort, but with all the great music out there are you content to just get by? For the purists this is like putting your hand on a hot stove knowing what the outcome will be.

Pain and third degree burns that's what's gonna happen.

Goth kids were different. They wore all black and smoked in the bathroom. There were all sort of manner of piercings and a depression cloud followed them like that blue ink they put in pools so they can identify who was doing the peeing. They never seemed to like everything and to be honest they scared the crap outta me. Didn't they have parents who loved them? I played soccer with a lot of those guys in middle school so what made them take this turn?

So yeah they were scary and different, but so was their music. Whitney Houston? Only if she was a cutter. To me this is one of the best psytrance albums of all time. Like the Goths it's not for the masses. At least it wasn't before every "twilight" artist co-opted the South African style with build-ups and stops and starts. Gone were the cotton candy pop nonsense that was force fed us at every turn. Nope, this was an apple with a razor blade in it. Each sound less accessible than the next, erupting with distortion and acid mayhem. Not darkpsy, but nowhere close to Vibe Tribe either. It was like looking over the Berlin Wall and wondering what the f*ck was going on over here? It's intense and melodic, but it challenged the scene to go beyond the easy play and dig deeper.

I consider this a springboard and an important moment in psytrance. Almost 10 years later this still sounds as vibrant as it did when it came out. Without Twisted System, there would be no Tickets , Tryon , Ex-Gen , Multi state , Alienn... These new artists have taken what TS began with and ran with it. It blew the door off what you were listening to and made Timecode a house hold name. Well, at least with us.

If you like South African psytrance with its dark melodies and thumping beats topped off with sounds you won't find on a Sesto Sento album I highly recommend this.

  13. This puppy has definitely generated vastly different opinions. Boris is a legend so he can do whatever he wants with artistic license. He seems to excel these days doing the downtempo stuff and maybe that's because he was such a rock for so long with the trance thing that he's bored with it. Who knows, but his last album Higher Modes was an absolute stink fest and just labeling your music Ecstasy smacks of maybe a little too much confidence.

But count me in the group that liked this release. The first two tracks didn't really sound like his style, and while I liked the first one, the second one...ZZZzzzzzz....*jerks awake and hits head on table* Damnit!!!

The Prayer remix is good, but how is it different than the original again? Quit riding the coattails of great tracks!

Psycho Acoustic s is a typical EU acid smash and so is Silence In Action. Funny that the latter wasn't put on the album...hmmm, I don't know...Silence In Action?

I really like Music of the Spheres, Young Man On Acid and Holografic also, but let's be honest...it sounds like a lot of other EU tracks.

The Riff...I can't get passed that nonsense at the beginning and the guitar doesn't get any better. This is subtraction by subtraction.

  14. I have to say that my enjoyment of this album has taken a tumble as the years have gone by. It's good, but doesn't generate the euphoria I felt when I first heard it over and over again in 2007. I suppose artists have gotten better and more skilled at layering sounds and increasing the depth of their tracks these days. I hope he comes out with a new one to see if he still has the magic.

Allow me to introduce to you one of the best psytrance artists you may not be listening to. I realize I shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition, but we've always been a little informal around here and it ain't like I'm writing a letter to Congress. The lack of the f word should make that clear. Ok, just one.

    "Hey Congress...f*ck you."

I think I just gave my high school English teacher a stroke.

This is Sasa Dukic and he is preparing to release his third album Dreamtime. The review is finished, but I thought it would be good to immerse myself in his previous works to see what he's all about. Wry Figments was good, but he's stepped up his game with this puppy.

    Sponge-

    3402v0C.gif

Let's get down to business. And he does with an opener that flaunts some high tech atmosphere and moves with a little bad ass swagger. It gets a little rambly, but it eases you into his world.

The Creator- Pumping beats and a rolling bass line set you up like bowling pins and he knocks you down with echoing leads and effects. Now. You're playing. With Power.

Reality Bomb- "My dear friends you're now about to enter the nerve center. Inside of this room all of your dreams become realities, and some of your realities become dreams."

Growling leads, intensity...what is not to like here. Gooey bass sounds, lasers and melodies. It's like Willy Wonka had a wet dream and it came out as cream cheese frosting.

Integrated Circuits- Purely an effects driven track that is fit to burst with cyber energy and sounds. Amelodic on its face yet strangely warmed by the hum of machinery. Undulating electronic waves oscillate creating tributaries of neural pathways.

    Brain Dissolver-

    FnFyprj.gif

"From you alright?!? I learned it from watching you!"

Lasers are fired in the opening salvo as more energy drips in fractal shapes on a cold and sterile floor. The layers multiply making this a storming track and a f*cking cracker of an omelet.

Spooky Doobi Doo- Sounds fire into the atmosphere as the kick and bass hold you captive. Mesmerized by the spooky 1950's sound the break brings a massive lead streaking across the sky. You can't bury that 303 amidst all those layers. I hear you.

Interconnectedness- Bubbling electronic energy hugs the beat and this really reminds me of the work of Braincell (how prophetic). Liquid sounds hang in the air crackling with multi-colored sparks. De-Licious!

Human Show- More liquid sounds pool and it maintains the vibe, but this one was a little thin.

Peyotl- "Peyote is supposed to give you a sense of peace and a feeling of oneness with nature."

Not to mention a wicked high. You always leave that bit out and then you see yourself on YouTube running around a McDonald's with war paint on your face and a three iron in your hand declaring yourself lord and ruler of the deep fryer.

    7QuXCBU.gif

Tragically, his mother's words finally rang true and his face did stay like that.

This track is slower and preparing you for the come down. That's what I first thought, but the more I listened to it, the more trippy it became.

Strange Place- Ending this psychedelic ride is a dubby piece of downtempo. Eerie with racing leads and a drum kit that is so real you'll think it's in your living room. Slower yet not slow it is a great way to come down.

So that's his style. Bring the thundering kick to numb you, shower you with effects to transport you into his mind, and hypnotize you with swirling leads. Pretty good formula. There is always something going on with sounds in a perpetual ricochet. The mood is dark, but he doesn't abandon you to the black. He gives you a handrail of light to guide you. Another thing, he flirts with goa like an eighth grader flirts with his sister's blessedly overdeveloped friend during a sleepover. This really is an orgy of electronic bubbling and cyber sounds that create a futuristic and detailed tapestry. A few good tracks, but the rest are spectacular. It's a shame this was never released, but that will change very soon.

Yes Mexican food will do that to you.

But if I said the Balkan people are taking over psytrance, I don't believe that to be hyperbole. F*ck he even has a neighbor (Hotep) on the album. The only neighbor I have is a redneck that hates black people and I don't think he plays an instrument unless it's that jug with the 3 x's on it. Whether it's progressive or goa trance they seem to have their finger on the pulse of electronic music. Case in point, Psilocybian is Sasa Dukic with his 3rd and most recent album and boy is it a cracker. If you didn't get a chance to check out his 2nd, Brain Dissolver you will soon. There has been a steady increase in quality with his releases and he is certainly moving in the right psychedelic direction.

This release is visceral. Primal. Futuristic. Echoing effects along an infinite strand of DNA that never seems to stop unraveling. Bubbling sounds that surf atop a sea of electronic froth. The layers are many and he puts the sounds together seamlessly atop thumping beats. Apparently he got the idea for this release from the Otherland book series by Tad Williams. I tried to read that book, but it got hard so I quit. More of a pictures kinda guy I guess. So Kudos to him for pushing through. Some of the track names are aboriginal which means that I can't make fun of them. Well played sir, well played.

He wants you to compose your own dreams and this music makes it very easy. While I wasn't impressed with the cover from his last effort this one gets top marks. He did it himself and and it's a reflection of the myriad thoughts running through his mind. Cyclops with a tennis racket? Elephant riding a nuclear weapon? That's out there dude. I haven't seen that kind of mental depravity since Wizack Twizack. And oh yeah he makes an appearance with several other artists on some great collaborations. There are some that may say it can get a little samey, but for me it was all part of the journey. It's a quality album that may restore your faith in psytrance with it's dark vibe and outstanding production.

    Highly recommended.

That being said I'll be waiting for the next one. Sideform are Serbians Drasko Radovanovic and Milos Modrinic with a fantastic quartet of remixes that are just chock full of atmosphere generating effects. Deep and multi-layered beauty with melodies that seem to float right before your eyes. I've never heard any of these songs so I treat them like brand new tracks. Don't know who invited the Danish kid to this Serbian party, but his track is also quite good. The stars for me were the Nerso and Lyctum remixes...pure poetry. Wide open melodic progressive with a dark feel just the way I like it.

What's this? A new Timecode compilation? Interesting.

    Excuse me a sec...

    lQ6KHxC.gif

Hell. Yes. The grandfathers of South African psytrance are back with their latest offering for all the twilight acid heads out there. For years they had set the standard for nighttime melodic darkness and catapulted their distinct sound into the ears of eager listeners. With their 30th release the track list is impressive put together by Tickets himself. And by the way he is on half the tracks on this thing be it as Tickets or Android Spirit.

Open Water- "Just relax and let it go. Don't f*ck around. Just do it."

Mr. Summs comes right out swinging with Hujaboy on the first track with that uneasy feeling the label has worked so hard to perfect. The whole "you done stepped in it now" vibe is ever present and hints at the wrong turn you may have just made. Good opener.

Power of Six- This is a relatively new artist to the Timecode fold, but it seems like he's gonna fit right in. Lasers, acid, and atmosphere. Would've liked a little more power and chaos, but not bad.

Welcome To The Zoo- Tickets has been getting away from the strict 4 on the floor stuff of his Timelapse album and becoming more theatrical and dare I say complex. Oh he'll still bring the heat and all his laser goodies, but even though he's getting more detailed it's missing its power. Good, but I find myself missing his chaotic monkey poo flinging acid ways.

The Doctor- "At the end of the day I would feel like I was a legal drug pusher."

    0HfpdSJ.gif

Holy sh*t where the hell have you been? Probably having a great life gettin' high and banging multiple hot chicks at the same time you lucky bastard. Sounds like my life...you know minus the uh, drugs and multiple hot chicks. Oh, and you probably make way less trips to Wal-Mart. Nice to see you still use two scoops of acid in your psytrance. Good track.

April 2nd 1968- I like the bass line in this one, its got oomph. Synth lines roll out amidst the firing of many lasers and it's just gathers momentum as it progresses.

Expect The Unexpected- Nah I expected this track to blow and sure enough...It's more techy with a lot of percussive sounds as well as an extended break that is on par with wisdom teeth removal. By a Wal-Mart greeter. How the f*ck did this make it on here?

Plastik- My main man Earworm from the US! Never, and I repeat, I have never heard a bad track from this guy. Lasers and acid rips erupt like you're in the middle of a firefight. The basses are warm and there are plenty of sounds to keep you busy. Great track.

Kiffen- Lasers and a good groove keep this one hopping. At times floaty but more often than not bruising. Keep coming back to this one makes me want to dance. Hmmm...the wife's on call so...

    4PKO0bl.gif

    Worst. Harlem shake. Ever.

Drop of Water- "As men busied themselves about their various concerns they observed. They observed and studied."

Not one of Morgan's more stellar samples, but let's face it he could narrate what you had for breakfast and it would attract an audience. Daniel Bernardo needs no introduction as he's been doing the acid thing for quite some time. There was some dead space in the track early on, but he more than makes up for it with a blistering acid explosion. Good track.

Object 008- Closing things out is Sulima whom I thought was a dakpsy guy. And he may be, but he ends this compilation rightly with pumping rhythms and several twists and turns down a creepy hallway. Good stuff.

While this doesn't come close to their heyday back in the 2000's it's still pretty good. They represent the twilight sound with some very good tracks that will surely get you moving. Still scratching my head about that Lemurians track as it just didn't fit with any of the other tracks on the album. Oh well, like I said there's plenty of other acid laden goodness to consume. So congratulations Timecode, you've still got it.

Old school goa trance is like a twelve layer chocolate cake with zero calories when done well. Pleiadians, Etnica, Transwave, Astral...all classics that never get old.

Well make room at the table because here comes Microcosm.

The Norwegian duo Fredrik Larsen and Georg Simonsen released and album that has been compared to Transdimensional by Dimension 5. And I fully agree. This was there only album and thanks to a close friend of theirs we are privileged to hear it. It is everything you could want in goa trance. Relentless, melodic, atmosphereic, entrancing, mind numbing. It soars and it growls, floats and dives. There were times I thought this could be D5 and times when I thought I heard a little M-Run and Crossing Mind. Just a marvelous piece of music.

2 bits of bad news. Primarily, Fredrik is no longer of this Earth. No idea how it happened, but let it be known that he was partially responsible for unleashing this old school beast on the masses. It should take it's place right up there with the more well known albums.

Second, there is some background noise on the 320 mp3's. It's minor and for home listening it doesn't really sully the quality of this masterpiece. But you can hear it on some tracks. I've never been to a festival or party, but I imagine it wouldn't work on a big set of speakers. But who knows?

If you are a fan of goa trance you already know about this. If it managed to slip under your radar, do yourself a favor and get thee to Ektoplazm and own this brilliant work or art.
