  1. The Great Tracks

    Altair

Return To The Source -> Best track on the album even though it seems like it may have been incomplete?

    Caprica

    Alpha Particles

    Deep Space 5D (Thai Remix)

    The Not So Great Tracks

    Zarkon

    Strange Phenomena

Symphonic Switch -> Awkward chord progression in the main section

This is not to say any track on here is bad. They are all well thought out. Some lack refinement and detail while others could easily have fit on Transdimensional or Second Phaze. The same general Dimension 5 sound is here. The leads, the kicks, the super bright snares, the bass lines. I can't see how anyone who likes Dimension 5 could be disappointed in this treat. Thanks suntrip and to whoever found the hidden vault full of these songs.

  2. So I have been listening to this album a lot lately after a short visit to Shpongleland last week with Ineffable Mysteries and have been trying to figure out why I never took as much interest in it as the other Shpongle albums. This is by far the most wild, imaginative and intricate album Si and Raj have made. Nothing Lasts... sounds digital, glitchy, and yet vibrant with nature and full of geometric imagery.

There is a somewhat desperate sound in the Nothing Lasts trio of songs but yet a calming nature to some of the later tracks like Connoisseur of Hallucinations. I think this album is very close to nature, moreso than other Shpongle albums, and inspired by cultures of the world that are close to nature as well. It's as if this album is like the soundtrack to movies like Baraka and Samsara. With that said there are a number of not so great songs on here like When Shall I Be Free - The Stamen of the Shamen and then the album kind of suffers some pacing issues with dull sections like Invocation and Exhalation sandwiched between already short songs lacking in composition.

If Ineffable Mysteries is like a fantasy dream world, Nothing Lasts... is the real world in all its beauty, terrifying complexity, and the human expression trying to explain it all.

  3. I personally don't buy digital downloads any more. I had once bought Merr0w and Radical Distortion's albums through digital downloads but my hard drive died and now I would have to illegally download both albums somewhere to get them back. It's been plastic discs ever since then. God bless suntrip for continuing to release cd copies of their albums. Besides, have you seen some of the artwork in them? That's worth holding in your hands.

  4. Well, that's an interesting question!

    It has 2 serious reasons:

Reason 1: the financial side of things... Suntrip has only 1 mission: to give you guys the best music... ON cd... :) Because the territory of cds is losing more and more support, this is becoming harder and harder... We are in the digital world, but those sales aren't good enough to make the cd-loss good... A cd sold via psyshop gives only around 6€, a cd sold by the shop almost 8€. This difference seems small, but it's the difference between life and death. With those limited releases more people will buy with us directly (the less people in between, the better for the label of course)

Reason 2: the LE (Limited Editions) is the music for the freaks. Music for people that are totally into goa... The goal is to release the 4.5/5 releases there (releases which are just a very little too short to be sold on real cd), like this we don't have to pay a lot for a total failed cd release. (because costs for a "real" cd release are much higher). For instance Innersphere sold decent in the mean time, but if we would have printed 1000 cds, we would have a BIG pile of cds left...

So, the 4.5/5 releases, and the re-releases as well... (and that is what the D5 release is afterall). Ok, it is a compilation of released tracks, but lots of goa die hards have them already, so it is of no use for them... They can keep buying the "new" releases of Suntrip :)

Last but not least, shipping + 1 cd is 13€, which is not too much imo... If you buy with psyshop, it would be 11 because of bulk shipping, but well, those 2€ keep Suntrip alive :)

Ok, I hope this explains :)

Is this the name of the joint project between Mindsphere and Innerspace or is that Mindspace I'm thinking of? I'll buy 10 copies of that please.

  5. Oh each track easily has its own identity. In fact sometimes I feel like they don't even belong together on the album, but that's not really a problem when they are all so good. If I had one criticism of this album it's the mix which kind of lacks well designed soundforms. Spirits of Devotion is easily the best mix on here and not just because of the kick, but the whole package of leads blending well together.

  6. Well I guess I will finally chime in on this thread seeing as how I am in the United States. People in America are dumb, I mean really dumb. They will not enjoy something unless they've been told to enjoy it. They are very empty people slowly going insane in a society driven by numbers and statistics, quotas and categories. Many lack simple basic humanity because we are a country owned and run by corporations and too many people are too ignorant to realize it. Worse are the people who realize it but are too apathetic or afraid to care.

And so Americans are incredibly closed minded despite my belief that we are generally a socially liberal country. It's not just goa trance, it's anything that isn't safe, easy, consumable, and approved of by others. It's as if people are too afraid to take control of their own lives and strive to find a deeper meaning in anything.

Sorry, I'm getting off topic. Please don't delete this thread!

  7. I've decided this album is vastly superior to Transdimensional. It's so much more involved, complex, cinematic and emotional. The production is miles ahead of its predecessor. It's really not even close, and I say that with the utmost respect for Transdimensional.

  8. Just this moment I am listening to DI.FM Goa/Psy channel and they're playing Hugh Sharpe - Trip Through Time (1998), a mix of 1998 tracks, of course. It is sad to hear that tracks from that year were so "trancey", and that this element is almost gone from psychedelic trance and its subgenres but it's present in other genres as Tribal House or Tech House. I agree with someone who said in this thread that trance is achieved thru repetitive patterns, it's obvious in Hugh Sharpe's mix.

I don't know how to repeat a channel in DI. FM, but if you have the chance, listen to Sharpe's mix, it's gorgeous.

I heard that mix a few years ago during the summer solstice event. Good stuff. That is definitely the style that I fell in love with and will always be close to my heart. I feel like there can be a common middle ground between faster, aggressive full on with lots of energy, and the trancey stuff from back then. Mindsphere's album comes kind of close, but I think the idea is to slowly build and evolve the melodies which is not a very easy thing to do.

  9. You are not the only one. I notice purely the difference in the sun's angle going south towards the equator which alters the way the sky looks, how blue it is, how easily it can warm you. And of course the further north you get the greater differences in the seasons with this time of the year the sun only being up for about 8 hours each day out of 24. The further south you go, there is virtually no difference in the seasons.

  10. Eh, tech-house, prog, whatever you want to call it totally lacks energy imo. Yes, it's groovy, anything can be, even pop music, but that does not mean it can keep your dancers going for extended periods of time. As a side note, goa used to be very trancy and some artists still have that feeling but given how melodically oriented it is, song structures just don't lend themselves to lengthy, slow building movements. Goa trance is more about the impact of how the song shifts from one part to the next to tell a more complex story.
