  1. I've downloaded many albums from Ektoplazm without any issues, i guess you got unlucky or something on your/the website side happened that day.

I'm sure you'll get an answer from Basilisk very soon anyway.

  2. If you just analyze it then of course it sounds very basic and kiddy like, i don't think the purpose of jump/hardstyle is to sound musically interesting or make you travel to any place.

Most of hardstyle listeners probably just want to have a blast jumping on big basses and simple melodies, they're not interested in "serious" music.

Not sure if that's because i've been listening to Thunderdomes compilations back when i was 10-12 yo, but i can actually enjoy a few hardcore/hardstyle tracks even now once in a while.

Also most of them might not know anything better in the genre. Not so long ago i thought hardcore was the most interesting kind of "uptempo electronic music" just because i didn't have any other references, other than the mainstream house and vocal "trance" which i don't like.

Just wondering how many of them would fall in love with goa/psytrance if they were listening seriously to some of our classics :D

  3. I prefer having something in my hands (talking about CDs there >.>), but i've been buying digital files as well - generally when it was way cheaper to buy those rather than buying an overpriced old album (IFO and the likes).

If i can find a CD version at a decent price though, i'll probably get that as i find it much more satisfying and enjoyable to have a real item (CD case, pretty artworks, some notes more or less interesting, the CD itself, and ultimately.. the feeling to "own" it) than a digital file.

Even if i buy it as files i just end up burning it on a CD anyway, just for the sake of being able to play it in the car or at any kind of Hifi system my friends have.

Concerning those sticks.. i think i would rather buy digital files, at least until/if they get to totally replace CDs.

Music in itself is the same, both digital files as it has been mentioned. But i just like the idea of ordering it/buying it off the shop, getting excited when opening it for the first time (like kids at xmas, love being a kid!) and then having it standing nicely in your collection.

Useless? Totally. But so good! And i'm really not convinced with the "save the environement, don't buy CDs" argument, especially in a tiny subculture such as ours. If i'm wrong though, i'll be happy to know more about it.

Another point that has been mentioned as well, is the price of digital music.

I can't remember exactly how much it was, but i was browsing on beatport and juno downloads the other day, just to find a few of my favourites tracks that i didn't have the luck to have on CDs. You know, those tracks that are only available on an album where there is only 1 or 2 tracks that you like, or on an extremly expensive album.

Well i was looking for some of those tracks in a lossless version, found some, added them to my cart, checked out, bou... canceled when i realized each track was costing nearly 3€.

If i wanted a decent price on those sites, i would have to buy the whole album (not solving the "i only like 1 track on the album" issue), or buy it in a lesser quality (mp3), which is clearly not interesting for me.

I think it would be much more attracting if labels were proposing digital files themselves (for a decent price) than having websites adding 1€ to every single track if you want them in a lossless format (i.e: phonokol is selling a lot of nice tracks for 1$ or less, and that in .wav quality).

Oh and to conclude, about the ppl downloading illegaly and not ever buying, well no longer than a few months ago i was one of them. The thing is, when the music you listen to is kind of mainstream, the albums often sell by millions and you don't feel like stealing anything.. since anyway, you wouldn't have bought it in the first place. That's what i was telling myself and so do my friends that have more "mainstream tastes". They could totally afford any album they would like to buy, but they just listen to the last pop/rnb hit like once a month or when it is on the tv/radio - it's not something they care about at all, their life would be the same if they couldn't download anything. Heck they might not even download more than 1 track a month, they would just go on youtube if they wanted to listen to music.

As for me, i started buying CDs when i upgraded my gear and started to care about sound quality. Then i realized it had - in this tiny scene - an importance whether i support the artists or not, so i'm now buying music i like not only for my own pleasure, but also to support the artists that are giving me shivers.

    Peace!

Filteria - "The Snails Keep Crawling..."

K.O.B. - "Pitch and Chips (A Fairytale About A Chip)"

Solar Fields - "Confusion Illusion (remix)"

and if we can count those ones..

    Psylent Buddhi - "Convergent Images"

Psylent Buddhi - "In The Stream"

    Symphonic Chronicles - "The Bathysphere"

  5. IFO for 2 reasons, Maia and Alcyone.

Tetrahedron is a *very* good album, but it lacks (imo) 1 or 2 "wowomgwtfkillaaaaarg" tracks to be on IFO's level.

That being said, i find it easier to listen to the Crop Circles album from start to end than IFO - it sounds less aggressive and tiring to the ears.

  6. I really like Cibernetika unique dark sci-fi psytrance. There's still melody, dark melody, but it's still there, there are pads, basslines e great atmosphere. This stuff should be released, it' much better than all this dark psy and full on stuff around. My opinion is 9.5

    Agreed.

I'm not the biggest fan of "darkpsy" out there, but i have really enjoyed listening to all of those tracks.

They sound very atmospheric, sometimes even melodic and epic.

I actually managed to listen to it from start to end without getting bored or irritated, which is an amazing performance when it comes to this genre for me.

Very nice work, keep it up!

  7. LOL

That was an entertaining read to the say the least, liking your humour and your writing skills.

    Thanks for that :clapping:

Anyway is there any samples available? I didn't find anything after a quick search.

  8. Are these amps good enough???? Help a brotha out here guys.

    26EURO

    41EURO

    52 EURO

If the cheapest ones are making just as good a sound as the expensive ones, i really don't care how it looks like with all those fancy LED lights and shit.. I just want a clean sound :) Help the n00b out please ;)

Honestly i have no idea about those ones.

I'm not familiarised with EU brands when it comes to headamp, let alone with DJ/music making stuff if you have any particular related needs.

Regarding of the price they look really cheap, not sure how they would sound with the 701.. but who knows.

Best thing would be of course to test gears yourself, but that might be near impossible depending on where you live.

Forgive me to insist on that again, but you should have a read on head-fi.org; if you don't find your answers amongst the hundreds of posts related to the 701, then just subscribe and ask them what they think - you'll always have an answer from a fellow there.

Sorry that i can't help you more, good luck!

  9. A preamp no, but a headamp.. i would say yes.

As far as i have heard, the 701s are quite famous to need a good amp to be driven correctly. It seems that they would sound a bit bass shy if you just plug them into your soundcard.

The M-audio is a good "bang for the buck" source, but it won't drive a pair of 701 very well imo since it has no amp section (it just plays the role of a DAC).

If you don't have the budget for a good amp, then i would definitly look elsewhere.

Of course they would still sound good enough unamped and i'm sure you would enjoy them, but there probably are better solutions if you just want to plug your headphones to your soundcard and be done with it.

In my experience, the best headphones i have heard unamped (within a low budget) are the A900 (and not AD900) from AudioTechnica.

They're like 150€ imported from Japan, and don't need an amp to sound very good.

Thats the pair of phones i would recommend to anyone listening to electronic music if they don't want to spend a lot or bother with an amp.

In any case you should have a read on head-fi.org, do a search on the headphones that interest you and you will get plenty of threads with the same questions you might ask yourself.

    :)

  10. Not sure about the interview, but i'm highly intrigued by this guy.

He made some of the weirdest (in a funny way) posts i have ever read on a forum, yet at the same time he seems serious to me.

If you check his soundclick account, you'll come across a lot of tracks he has made.. i don't think someone joking would go that far.

Talking about his tracks, i've been listening to them.. and i actually like some of his melodies!

    like this one

It doesn't sound very pro of course, but i like it!

And if you want to listen to his psychedelic (to stay on the forum's topic) singing..

    NHJO song

Not sure if that's really him, but if it is.. i'm even more intrigued now :D
