  1. When you say "nobody talk about them", you're partly right, indeed they've been talked a lot about ... but at the time which means mainly 1994-1997 then with time it decreases.

Btw for their still fans, i know Serge (coz today Total Eclipse is just him, i'm not even sure of the participation of Loic nowadays in the project ...) has cooked a new album scheduled for autumn if i'm not mistaken on Mandala records, check their mypase for extracts , it's melodic full on, but not very fresh sounding unfortunately for my view...

Weird, i thought it was just Stephane Holweck now? It seems thats what their myspace is saying, as well as their bio on discogs.

Anyway i didn't know about this new album, and i'm not sure i'm happy to know about it now :(

Sounds like another mythic name is going to take some dust.. not so surprising, but always disapointing.

I'm going to see them/him at Ozora this year.. if they're playing that average full on instead of their classic goa tracks, i'm going to suicide.

  2. What you also need is a good audio-card and an amplifier. All of these HPs are high impedance and need more power to perform well and good DA converter to give you all these little details.

Kinda why i always recommend some AT phones for the small budget (300€ in the hifi world is considered small), as they don't need a powerful amp to be driven well.

Personally i'd still recommend the AD900. They're cheap, closed if thats important for you, comfy, known to be good for electronic music, and they don't need a very pricy amp to be driven correctly.

Idealy you would just have to listen to the phones that you are interested in before you can buy them, as we all have different ears and something sounding gorgeous to someone can sound awful to someone else.

If you're not much of Hifi head though (read: analyzing every single thing to see where are the tiny flaws), then i think you'd be happy with pretty much anything.

  3. Total Eclipse always been one of the best goa group in my book and they were/are really famous amongst the goa heads, at least until Serge Souque left.

I love how their music sound totally unique; you know its a Total Eclipse track just by listening to the very first seconds.

My top 2 tracks from them would be "The Furnace" and "Waiting For A New Life".

If you didn't listen to it yet, have a look on the music Souque collaborated on under "The Deviant" - especially the "Orichalcum & The Deviant" album.

It's darker than Total Eclipse music, but still unique and amazing.

  4. I have the AD900 and the AD2000 from Audio Technica, and i'm very happy with them both.

I never listened to the AD1000 but they have the same aural signature then the AD2000. They are pretty pricey though, and last i checked you could get an AD2000 for the same price (ordering from Japan).

The AD900 are very cheap though, about 150€ delivered from JP; and the differences between the AD900 and the AD2000 aren't that big to my ears, at least not big enough to justify spending 200 more €.

The sweet thing about those phones is that you don't need a very good (read: pricy) amp to get them to sound good.

Something in the 100-200€ price range would be way enough, and they would still sound good if you just wanted to plug them into an ipod.

Anyway you should check on head-fi and browse their forums, as i always say if you have a question about headphones.. the answer is already there waiting for you.

In case you don't, the general feeling about those phones is that they are very good for electronic music (fast, detailed, nice bass, etc).

  5. Yes it's foreseen. Just go to http://www.suntriprecords.com/shop/, add a CD on your basket, and switch to https://www.suntriprecords.com/shop/basket/

In the table, there is a column "Fragment". That's supposed to mention which track you want from the release.

But it's not completely coded yet. The order part is not, whereas the download part is (downloads are treated as separate independant tracks, internally).

Since I'm the only coder, tester, deployer, maintainer, and since I have a family life, I can't dedicate much time on it. New features will come, be sure of it.

I work in the IT industry, so I know how frustrating it might be to wait for a feature for an indefinite time. So if you want a few tracks in flac, we can do that "out of the process". Just send me an email @suntriprecords.com and I can arrange that for you.

Oh alright, thats great to hear.

I'll drop you an email later on then mars.

I'm not in a hurry though so if thats too much of a hassle don't worry about it :) I'd just wait until you have time to work on it.

  6. Not only is the cause hopeless, but it's ironic to raise money for it via such means, since lots of these poor people will never have access to such music which we make "in pity for them". Obviously nobody intelligent thinks this CD will help anything, they are just using it as a marketing strategy to appeal to some ignorant and moral audiences. Thus I call it lame. It's basically an insult to the rest of our intelligence.

Btw the line "THINK ABOUT IT" in large font at the end probably provoked my comment.... it's so overused and lame, especially since their position is irrational.

I understand what you mean, the emphasis on the cause tickled my cynical ears as well.

Though i very much doubt the guy is going all through the process of gathering known artists to make an album, just so he could get a few extra money by using a cause as a marketing strategy.

While it might work wonders in the big industry, it's unlikely that he will personally benefit in any way of this potential generosity appeal in our tiny scene. The contrary might be true however.

Also i don't think this is going to solely make ppl buy this album.

They will buy it if they like the music, and will be happy to see that some of the money might help someone, even if only slightly.

It might not be a lot, almost meaningless even. But if that can brings a tiny amount of happiness for a few hours or days to a few kids, well that's better than nothing at all.

And for those that aren't interested in the music, i don't think they will buy it.

I mean if you want to give some money to a cause, it's better to give 10€ directly instead of buying a 10€ CD that you don't care about, and only see half the money going to the cause you're supporting.

So i don't really see a problem even if that was a marketing strategy, it still is the same thing to me.

    If i like the album i'll buy it, if i don't i won't.

And ultimately, there is also the possibility that he is really kind hearted (they do exist ;) ) and that he's just trying to make an album with the artists he loves,

and thought it would be nice if some of the money could help a kid or 2 for some time.

  7. I agree with what everyone said to you, don't worry about what ppl want and just make the music you feel like doing.

If you worry too much about whether ppl will like it or not, or what kind of music you should make to please as much ppl as possible, then i think we know how it will end up; music with a lot of cliche and generic melodies/sounds, which isn't very interesting.

From a listener point of view, the only thing i want to see (hear) is your soul and your feelings put into music. And not only the bright side, i want to see the darkness in you as well! :evil laugh:

Maybe i won't like it, that's a possibility. But at least i will have respect for you.

So don't worry about us, and give the music all your best and more!

  8. Lame CD for a lame cause, no thanks.

If anything my estimation for these artists goes down from this, but maybe you'll win some support among the ignorant.

Hmm i would be curious (no sarcasm intended) to know why you are saying that.

While the whole "life is unfair, ppl forgot the true meaning of life" etc sounds a bit (a lot?) cliche and naive, i find concept albums (in this case based on the word Hope) interesting.

Also the fact it's eco friendly and that a bit of money will go toward a cause sounds noble enough to me to, at least, be respected.

But maybe there is a catch there and that you could give more informations to ignorant ppl like me :P

  9. I understand murphy when he says that he finds Kettel extremly psychedelic and thus, is posting in the psy section. There are indeed musics that i find a lot more "psy" than 90% of the albums listed (basically almost everything that came out since ~2000) and i totally understand his feelings.

On the other hand, the psychedelic term is more often than not used for music that make us feel a strong emotion, and take us on a trip rather than it belonging to the "psy scene".

With that in mind, psychedelism is totally subjective and anyone can find anything psychedelic.

But the fact is, Kettel isn't labelled as psychedelic music (let alone psytrance) and whether someone finds it psychedelic or not is irrelevant if the purpose of the reviews forum is to review albums belonging to the psytrance (and psybient so it seems) scene.

Personally i don't mind seeing idm albums on the reviews section once in a while, but that would open the door to a very undesired possibily: that anyone finding an album psychedelic - no matter what style is it labelled - could write a review in the reviews forum.

If that was allowed then i see no reasons why we wouldn't have some hardstyle/house/tektonik/etc reviews.. and that's something i really wouldn't like to see.

I thank you murphy for the time you put in writing your review, and i hope you won't be offended nor stop talking about the music you like if its being moved to the "Other Electronica" section.. but thats what would make the most sense to me really.

P.S: Sorry for the off topic.
