  1. I hate people who beg for rips; I don't think they deserve any music unless they have something to trade for it or pay for it, whether with originals or rips or money or sex or slave labor. <_<

It disturbs me how many people go begging for rips for free, thinking phrases like "thanks in advance" and "I really need this", including smiley faces, etc, will get it from me, when really they should say "I will pay you X dollars for this since it can't be bought in original" or whatever else. If they put no effort into it they don't deserve it at all IMO.

But what disturbs me the most is the number of people who have given me rips of music for nothing at all (even though I offer to pay or trade for them) just because I asked them for it, like they have nothing better to do with their time or something (including many people using this site!).

In other words: Sadly what these begging people do works, so I like to post about it so hopefully it won't work as well. It works because there is another type of person who thinks sharing with beggars is a good thing and feels good when he does it. This type of person is basically the somewhat wealthy man who fears being poor and hence likes to maintain good rapport with poor people. (Ideal smiley here would be :puke: )

It also disturbs me when the more discerning of these men say "you won't upload this to a p2p sharing site promise?" as though they can trust some random stranger on the internet they have know only through 1 typed message which is most likely cunning and full of lies in the first place!!!

That said, people who refuse to rip anything under any circumstance I also find annoying as there are some things that they may have the only copy of and not sell it, or that you cannot buy for less than 100 EUR, yet they don't want to allow anyone else to hear it I guess, because they are... irrational? retarded?

I am typing this as I've been around these types of people lots lately, being high on a torrent tracker and personally collecting lots of music in rips from various ways. (FYI I never put good music on the torrent tracker or encourage anyone else to, because along with the few respectable people there are many many other people that I don't like, though they are a "fact of life" and I must love them in a higher sense. :D )

    what's your point ?

dont understand why u make such a fuss about it

people asking for rips... or you react out of interest (trade?) or you ignore

people giving rips for free: no problem for me, as long as i'm interested in the music i go for it

people sharing rips only to people that promise not to share further on p2p.. now there i hear ya

but i can't be bothered with it

and why call people names just because they trigger irritation in you ?

so... what's the point u are trying to make ?

are u looking for personal opinions on ripping ?

    or what ?

  2. just out of curiosity how about having them up in the wall/ceiling corner facing downwards? i'm going to set up my speakers (4 in 4 corners, subwoofer under my desk)

looks like a safe setup (regarding high frequencies for the 4 speakers)

but don't have any knowledge or experience when it comes to that

(mid to high) speakers have an angle of 45° where they give most power,

so i guess placing them in the top with an angle downwards would maximize the effect, and lower the amount of first reflections via the ceiling and side walls

  3. What should one do with floorstanders?

if u have them floorlevel, try to put them in an angle so they're aimed a bit upwards

if u have an open space between you and the speakers, then you only have a minor difference

problem is that high frequency's are too directional

every object that stands in between the speakers and the listener will act as obstacle for high frequencies

high freq = short wavelength -> so they reflect on objects

low freq = long wavelength -> they can wave around objects

low frequencies (50 till 200 Hz) are undirectional, so they fill the room

high frequencies are directional, the source of these can be clearly distinguished

having high frequencies placed at a height between ears and chest (imo) give the cleares and most direct sound

plus you have a better resonance of the lower frequencies (as i experienced)

it seems that woofers on groundfloor speakers lose a bit of fullness or something

  4. home listening.. ?

    well..

i have only my headphone i use for mixing

it has tiny fitting ear-cups, so doesn't have good accoustics on the low freq's

my speakers are still in reparation (troubles with the wiring or servo's it seems)

    for home listening:

i'd prefer a headphone with large ear-cups, a massive sennheiser for example, with a very long wire :)

but some music just doesn't work on headphones... a good stereo setup widens up the sound, giving it more space to move in

    so it depends

if u choose a headphone for home listening

id go for things like these:

if u want speakers for home listening, be sure NOT to put them on the floor

best is to place them at a height where the tweeters are about the same level as your ears, or just a bit lower

  5. Favorite format of music ?

    physically probably:

    etc.. etc...

    etc...

    ..

Vinyl Pressings are the closest resemblance to this sound, so Vinyl = first in line for a preferred intermedium

    digitally ?

i dont care as long as i don't lose any vital details from the tracks...

if i want quality or in case of cd's something physically and visually as extra, in addition to the lossless encoded audio, i'd

choose to buy a (imho) worthless CD-copy sold for overpriced amounts (as it percieved it's value in cash from the ol'LongPlayer, but then the 80 minutes-long type

the whole production-process for one cd within a larger grouped amount of thousands - i was told - costed about 60 to 80 eurocents per copy (artwork-printouts and evryth.included)

and it kinda shows in its appearance for me :)

in physical value (imho), only Vinyl in the first place, cd's just carry a financial value, and a musical(-data-)value.. everything here is engineered to make an infinity of copies with the cheapest materials still conforming with the CD-standards)

  6. Would you dismiss Handel's Messiah as propaganda? How about traditional Sufi music? If you answered "yes", that's your loss.

are you talking in terms of white and black, and just gave a white example ?

i don't think there's alot of grey involved in this

in these times it mostly tends to be black, or dark grey ;)

    *edit*

ah yes, forgot to mention.. propaganda doesn't exist much longer than the beginning of 20th century ...

  7. High-dilly ho Neighbourino's !

ah yes.. also against the music + religion stuff

i dont go to parties to convert into some kind of belief (be it religiously or politically or nutritionally oriented)

u know what comes from mixing up art and beliefs (it is called PROPAGANDA)

  8.

and the ones that you can smoke?

it's quite a farmers/greenzone here not really enough material around to experiment with it,

tried a brick once, pulvered it and layered it over my sheet with tobaccers..

but i guess those rugget cemented ones are much more of a kick

    ;)

  9. But maybe it just belongs in the trash-can :D

    gave it another listen

it's quite a hard intro imo.. that sudden kick+snare

also quite a static and stretched feeling break/kick/rhythm that's patterned too much in blocks like as with dancefloor material

too static and minimal for such a soundsphere imo :)

i'd rather build it up more graduately

and adding percussion one by one while you're building up the atmosphere

as for example setting a tempo (with a baseline or a background beat/break or sth else) before setting a rhythm

.. u know building up a structure based on how the soundsphere evolves.. something like that

so that the rhythm works as a drive for the soundsphere to evolve/flow on

also (near-silence) is a strong medium to work with

but okay, that's my vision on it, i'm not saying how it's done or something ;)

i'm a rookie when it comes to producing hehe

anyways.. only thing i can say is that making it more dynamic could give you more options to build out a more extensive structure

definately not waste bin material .. just trying to give remarks that might be usefull :)
