  1. no, thank you.

but please high almighty, don't time travel to the past anymore to change your good trax into something forgettable. :(

yea i think of Simon more as the fallen mesiah than the mesiah at this point. His stuff pre 2000 i will worship forever but to me he exhausted his powers, had nothing left really after composing and day turned to night. before that track it seems like he was constantly trying to reach for something more but then found it in that track. i think he has even said that pretty much in interviews.

  2. They must have spent tens of thousands of dollars on their studio, unless they got the old analog gear in the early 90's when they were out of fashion and cheap. I wonder if their studio is insured? :)

Yea it is thinner, but few of us have the dough for the gear and it's probably difficult to find fully functional units of some of the synths.

The new psy doesn't have powerful melodies like 90's goa and psy - in fact dark psy is the antithesis of goa with its grey binary noise leads and atonal melodies, so boring. And the commercialization of psy... well, you get the drift.

I'm sure they spent at least $10k+ plus on a studio. I first got interested in making psy around 1999, and even then coming on a more "amateur" production board like this(old dream list) to even get going you had to spend around $4-5k to even really make a track. Figure before VST you needed to at least buy a hardware sampler for percussion/kicks, 2 or 3 synths at least, a hardware mixer,an efx unit, soundcard for your PC that were alot more expensive than now and then DAW software that couldnt do much beyond midi and record. That was a big reason the virus took off so big for psy, all you had to buy then was the virus, mixer and soundcard. Same with the nord lead in a way, it was just cheaper than buying all this other stuff.

  3. blasphemy

haha yea software is great for really thin boring sounds that all sound the same :)

I still never grabbed a JD-990 and actually ran across my own post doing a google search for 2 years back..

any of you guys that used the jd-990 say anything about FMX? I take it doesnt work like a traditional carrier/modulator pair? Just have control over intensity and "color"?

It doesnt look from the manual that you could pitch down the modulator two octaves compared with the carrier to get the modern FM psy squiggly sound?

  4. I also think they had started running out of Shpongle ideas after their 1st album.

haha, my thoughts exactly. you guys realize Raja is 67 years old? I think its Raja who ran out of ideas after the first album.

A different project with Ott and Simon would be awesome. Ott is almost on simons level of musicallity, that would make for some very interesting music.

  5. you didn´t got it, did you, i can slow down hallucinogen tracks with any program, that´s not the point, i am curious how it would sound if Simon would produce slow hallucinogen tracks with the same atmosphere. I have the track "The herb garden" but it sounds anything like slow halucinogen, it sounds like shpongle not like hallucinogen

just find the old Eclipse album from Twisted. The Walter Ego stuff is exactly what your trying to describe here. That was made when he was still make dark and twisted stuff. Dubstuff owns.

  6. I actually never got into his solo stuff even though he is one of my fav artists. Dealing with Demons and the 2 Beast tracks are some of the best ever made. I remember listening to an old interview with Tristan on thumpradio and he said Sean is the master of fucked up sounds in the studio. I think mostly what sets him apart is not many people use a real analog modular for their synth sounds.

  7. On a serious note though, this is about the 5th thread that talks about favorite Shpongle tracks, hence my reaction. I like the first album the best, but I am really tired of it as well. All the tracks on the first album are my favs, and the other ones just sound OK to me. ;)

my thoughts exactly :) The first album can never be touched to me but after listening to it about 5000 times i dont listen to it anymore really.

  8. My current favorite is The Flashbulb, be shure to check that out, it's very well constructed and diverse.

I also really like The Flashbulb. I had a chance to catch him live about 2 years ago, he put on a wicked live show using a laptop and a midi guitar.

really almost everything from Sublight Records is worth checking out. To me they are the only experimental electronic label that matters, like the 21st century version of Warp.

  9. if you think this album sucks i dont even know why you would bother with any new release.

the old school sound is dead, why would they make an album that the 10 people who still like the old goa sound would buy.

saying this sucks, is completely insane.

sucks compared to what? sounds better than anything else ive heard this year.

  10. " Live PA is more of an IDM/techno term than psy."

when there use to be a rave scene here "live pa" was always techno guys bringing out a bunch of drum machines and synths and more just jamming than something pre planned.

i dont know why they would use that for psy but that could be pretty cool if someone was actually going to try to do something like that.

  11. koxbox!

from seeing both koxbox and hallucinogen live, simon is better for home listening but no one ive ever seen was as sick as koxbox/psychopod live and loud.

it was right when the great unknown came out so they hadnt gotten IMO as cheesy yet, sound was coming out of the speakers that seemed impossible.

  12. well i havent made a track in almost 6 months now. this is how its been for about 5 years now, i get really into it for 4 months, then get sick of producing and quit for 6 months but everytime ive come back the tracks have gotten better. hopefully this time ill actually get something released.

i dont think there is a point in forcing it, just give up for awhile, the urge will click again and you will just be hungry to kick some ass in the studio.

  13. ive seen hims twice, once in 1999 and once in 2000.

he stayed at my friends house that was the promoter for a week, to bad a didnt know the guy then.

My other friend and the promoter guy went out for sushi with posford and simon h.

I know they said posford was quite down to earth. when the promoter guy brought juno reactor they had a whole list of demands, certain number of cigerette packs, case of beer, certain star hotel they had to stay at. posford just stayed at the promoters shitty apartment.

  14. i would actually suggest getting live 5 and albino.

live 5 is nice because it has very nice tutorials that actually walk you through how to use it within the program itself.

albino will have enough presets that you can get moving right away.

live 5 has great built in effects too.

im in the process of changeing from SX to live 5 for the bulk of the music making process, then mix the audio in cubase.
