Brandon
I'm curious, can anyone tell me what equipment some of the groups like Etnica, or MFG; some of the 94-98 era goa/psy names used to produce the sounds they made? Maybe this thread belongs in music making forum, and I know I've read threads from years ago which discussed these things which I really didn't understand. I've heard of the (Roland?), I think its called. I was just driving down the street the other day listening to Etnica - Nice Toy, and marveling the sounds some of the old analog machines were capable of producing. Whatever they used to create albums like Family of Light etc, just amazes me. I'd love to figure out what equipment some of the best psy came from. As for Etnica, I my self would like to know their comple setup at the time of the I.F.O album and so on, but from what my ears tell me and that i hear in their old tracks is a lot of nord rack/nord lead 1 FM sounds, lots of SH-101 and TB-303. What i would like to know how ever is what type of FX they used and so on. They probably had a lot of unusual gear as well im sure. And yeah.. hehe Nice Toy.. great track indeed.. especially the final part of it.. after the "it floats on the air" sample :drama:

draeke
I want to tell that etnica, never had a real TB 303. their setup was more or less the same that Filteria has: Access Virus B Clavia Nord Modular Clavia Nord Rack 2 DSI Evolver E-mu Morpheus Ensoniq ESQ-M Korg MS-20 Korg MS-2000R Korg Prophecy Novation BasStation Oberheim Xpander Roland JD-800 Roland JP-8000 Roland MKS-50 Roland SH-101 Roland V-Synth XT Syntechno Teebee Waldorf Q and as a mixer mackie 64 channel now i don't know if in these machines above there is something extra but as far as i remember he recreated the exact same studio the guys had. the main synth used for alien protein album and vimana single was the roland jd 800 and roland sh-101. the swirls made in lunar civilization remix were made with ms-20, when i was in Ibiza Mauri showed me a realtime tweak of the track and i immediately recognized the same sound manipulation of lunar civilization remix. i am not an expert in technical things and this is all i can tell about the issue + EDIT: OH and by the way, the track nice toy was made in 1994, i seen it in the studio in Ibiza on DAT, it was released many years after, they used to play it in livesets and no, is not a remix or remake the one released after, is the exact same track. HolyLight
I want to tell that etnica, never had a real TB 303. Hey man thanks a lot! i could never have guessed that they didnt have a TB-303, then it must be the SH-101 they use for those type of sounds since it can sound very 303ish as well, especially when overgained/distorted. And how could i forget the Roland JD-800, that one you where even helping them selling some time ago As for the Filteria gear, he sure has a lot of the good old classic synthesizers, but V-Synth XT for example is a newer synthesizer wich didnt exist at the time Etnicas old tracks where made If you ever get the chance Draeke couldt it be possible for you to perhaps get photos of their old studio or the new studio? draeke
OK a bit of story of the "studios" every band member had some gear, like Andrea was the owner of the jd800, and the rest of the team, each had some stuff so when the band formed they joined all their gears. The old studio moved around, in Milan as well, in different locations (soundbuster studio was called at the time of alien protein). Then when the time was to move to Ibiza Max and Mauri brought there what they owned and Carlo and Andrea kept their stuff. There was also a time in 96 when the studios of etnica and lotus omega were joined and that's when they made the crop circles material for instance. I know that they had a Oscar synth as well, property of Franco. As I should see today Filippo of lotus omega i will ask him what they also had and if he remembers exactly what gears the etnica had etc.. and write down on a paper so i will update the gear list here. about the new studio of Etnica? i have photos, i will upload them but i know right now they just realized a new recording studio and i haven't seen it yet! beside: Diaks you have some serious graphical skills. I checked your website, just couldn't find any music as they seem to have been removed. I wish my website looked that awesome
