Blue Spliff (5:59) Review: I’m not a great reviewer and not a specialist to define musicstyles, but I will try it againe and I want to present a album from a german mastermind. Sven Väth’s third solo album “FUSION”, which is the last album where he corporated with Ralf Hildenbeutel and he released it 4 years later after his 2nd album. I know it is not Psychedelic Trance, but it is a try to give this album a chance. 1. “Fusion”, the beginning from this album, is a big band orchestral (like James Last) track. (I don’t know why, but it remembers me of an old japanese RPG ) 2. “Discophone” is a typical Sven Väth track, with techno beats and some trance spheres. 3. “Sensusal Enjoyments” is the first chillout track. (In my opinion it is the best song from this album.) 4. “Augenblick” is more progressive techno. 5. “Scorpio’s Movment” is pure techno, with some hard electro beats. 6. “Trippy Moonshine” is the second chillout track. (Very smooth too.) 7. “Face it” a clubby trance song, with some vocals from Sven Väth himself. (His best single release from this album) 8. “Schubdüse” is a very techy electro song, with some creepy sfx spheres. 9. “Sound Controls your Mind” is progressive trance with some light techno elements. 10. “Spliff” is the last chillout track with swinging rhythm. I like the complete album and can recommend it to everyone. In my opinion the third album is a big surprise and very good sucess from Sven. I can not choose which is my favorite song. But if I must choose, I think I will take 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9 & 10. The vinyl release has two bonus tracks, which is Breakthrough and Omen A.M.. Breakthrough is a track which is more experimental with melodic electro and breakbeats. ( I like it ) Omen A.M. is a techno track, which is built up slowly. (reminds me of Harthouse Techno) If someone is not sharing my opinion or not satisfied with my description, about the styles, then he can correct me. Because if I like something, then it don't cares me which style it is.
Charlie
I didn't like it, I was expecting something akin to Accident in Paradise and The Harlequin, The Robot and The Ballet Dancer but it was nothing like those masterpieces. If memory serves me well I played it three, maybe four times, then sold it. I suppose that's the trouble with expectations, they are seldom realised. Kai-Q
BTW, this fantastic 12" single was made by Sven Väth (P. Jive) and Ralf Hildenbeutel (Gerard Beraya). http://www.discogs.com/release/52325
Oopie
I remember borrowing this from library. "Scorpio's Movement" stayed on my player for few days. What a banging tune! Otherwise, nothing too special.
