Artist: Neum

Title: Time Machine / Shifting Colors

Label: Acid Casualties

Date: 2001

Track listing:

01. Time Machine

02. Shifting Colors

Review:

The tenth release from Acid Cassualties is made by John Decaro who calls

himself Neum. I know very little about him so I count on that someone

else fills in the details below. This ep is kind of Scando-sounding,

atleast the A-side which is very smooth and builds slowly. The floating

sensation you get by listening to this track increases all the time so

it has to be a perfect morning track, but don´t be fooled because it´s

not that slow! Even though it´s pretty hypnotic it´s never boring and

the Atmos-inspired beat is something I really like. The other side is

harder and got a pumping monotonous beat that drowns most of the other

sounds which I think would have come forward better with a less obvious

beat. I also think that I would have liked this track a lot more if the

beat had been more in line with the A-side. Well... one really good

track out of two isn´t bad!

I like this one too, a great opening track for a morning set (time machine).

This is the first ever release from John Decaro, who is american by the way.

The first non-swede to release on Acid Casualties which has changed name to

ACDC now. To sum it up; pretty classy production, beautiful floating mood in a

tastefullly restrained way. Recommended.

Decaro's not just an American, he's from my hometown of Philadelphia! So I

probably would have bought this single, even if it was bad, to support the

local scene, but thankfully it's a very solid debut for Neum. The a-side is a

hypnotic, dubby number; you can definately see the scandinavian influence

here, a la atmos/vibrasphere/human blue (which is probably why Anti picked it

up in the first place!). The b-side's a bit more minimal, less spacey sounds

are used. Not quite as good as the 1st track. Overall though, it's a nice

EP, great considering it's his first release, and (for me at least) a source

of hometown pride. 7/10.
