Review:

I bought this compilation primarily for the two previously unreleased Chi-A.D.

tracks. Now I wonder, having seen a partial tracklisting for his new album on

this site, if these tracks will end up filling in the gaps...? While they

weren't totally mind-blowing, they certainly didn't disappoint. In fact,

they're what made this purchase worth it, as the rest of the selections were

either mediocre or already elsewhere in my collection (Ololiqui & Morphem

mainly). Akasha Project's contribution is very reminiscent of early Total

Eclipse (albeit with less of their intensity). Biot dishes out some seriously

funky tribal trance with "Higher Level" while C.O.N.Sequencer follows suit

with a more down-tempo house groove. Electric Universe supplies breaks on "The

Space Dimension" (courtesy of his 1999 "Blue Planet" album), which adds up to

a modest amount of variety for this more mellow collection. I could go into

further detail, but I'm more interested in what others will say about this

compilation. I've salvaged what I could from it.

I was actually pretty happy with this comp; I agree that the chi ad tracks

aren't that amazing but they're not bad either. The first one (sol-ice)

reminded me of old Dead Can Dance albums a little. The cover calls it a

morning trance compilation so if you're looking for something hard-hitting

this isn't it. If you like light and spacy with just the right amount of drive

to it though you'll like this stuff. Track 3 (Alegria) is somewhat repetitive

but sounds like it would fit well into a Dj mix as a good transitional track.

Akasha Project has a nice winding twisty track that incorporates what sounds

like a sax into it - it actually works quite well. Gabriel Le Mar and Con

sequencer both appear with tunes that manage to fuse dub, deep house, and

trance into a nice organic whole.

My favourite is definitely Sandal Wood by Human Blue though - this has appeared

on a few other compilations but if you haven't heard it it is practiaclly

worth the price of the discs alone - best I've heard from him so far. Electric

Universe track has a good futuro-electro kinda feel with a non-cheesy sounding

vocoderized voice (wish I could figure out what it was saying

though...something about the future of humanity and flying through higher

dimensions - good subliminal messages). Morphem-Hypnotone is also here - as it

seems to have popped up on many other compilations too - I prefer the melodies

of the original to this Cydonia remix. All in all though it is worth the money

if you like morning tunes - good artwork on the inside too!

Extremely good compilation....lots of real morning songs and very quality

ones...Lots of big names too that just gave best fro themselves : CHI - A.D (

mellow and confused at the times but pretty good ), ATMOS, ELECTRIC UNIVERSE (

one of the best on compilation, simply great ), HUMAN BLUE ( very good melodic

song ), MORPHEM ( stunning song, great rebulit by Cydonia ),AKASHA

PROJECT....really lots of good artists gathered to make good sun tribe....This

volume is much , much better than the second one....more melodies and less

guitars so if you like more melodic morning music then go and GET THIS !

9/10

The first half of this comp bored the crap outta me, but you have to put it into context. 2000 was a time when goa and their beautiful melodies were passe and monotonous droning was all the rage. Some tracks were good, like the Morphem one and the feurehake track. EU's track was a nice one as well. Not one of my fave comps.
