Review:

Bandit: A guy from Israel called Shay Pur. Anyone know this guy? I don't, but

he sure makes good music...! I bought this from Psyshop, and they called it:

Israelien Atmos... I guess that's as good a definition as any. This album

consists of 8 quite long tracks, and it's pretty much sounding like Atmos,

only with a little harder and weirder edge to it. I'll go by it from track to

track... and try to explain each track... I think this is how people want to

see their reviews, at least I hope so...!!

Track1: Has lots of drum samples, which are played reversed, so it sounds

pretty weird. With a nice pulsing beat and some atmos like sounds, this is a

great starter, although this doesn't have a key melody, like most Atmos songs

do. Nevertheless, great intro track! Next up Planet Funk, which starts with a

low bass frequency and slowly let's a kickdrum flow in.. Again some acidic

like sounds and a simple bassmelody. Weird voices in the background with

effects on them, and suddenly a little melody kicks in, and some female

shouting something like: "I need to hear you scream my name, Punk...!!" etc.

This sample comes back a couple of times, until mister Pur covers it with a

Chorus effect. This song is pretty good too, and this does have a little

melody that comes back every now and then.. As does that low bass

frequency...! Yummy! Ok. Track 3: the title track. Starts with strange voices

with effects... (Mr. Pur does like his weird voices, they are present in

almost every track...!

!)

Again a pulsing kickdrum with a simple bassmelody. This one has more of these

growling like noises and filters, and some percussions again. This one also

has this nice acidic melody coming back every now and then. The track

constantly warps and changes... But every now and then that melody comes back.

This clearly reminds me of Atmos, and especially of tracks like: The Only

Process. This track is the best example of this album's style... It's like

Atmos dipped in an Israelien psy sauce... Ok. on to track4: One of the

shortest songs on this album, it has lots of voices again. A different

kickdrum, this song starts more like a Sandman like song (witchcraft early

days Sandman-like anyway) with an evil sounding melody, which sounds like a

horror movie of sorts. Percussions and strange noises again. This one doesn't

really have melodies, it's more like Yash... Pretty driving and a little

difference for in between. Track5: Longest track of this cd, this one has a

great part at 8 min!

utes or so, you think it's over and suddenly you're back in it again, and the

number reaches it's climax! One of the best songs on this album. It has lots

(and I do mean lots) of strange sounding voices, which can't be understood

because of the weird effects on them. This song has that Atmos-flavour again.

Great stuff. On to Track6: Sounds more like Track 1 & 4 again, strange noises,

simple bassmelody, great kickdrum and lots of acidic like scratching noises...

Has a simple 303 melody, which is more background like and not so 'present' as

most melodies often are. This song has a hypnotic flavour too, because of the

repeating voice, but I don't quite understand what it says...

Ok, on to Track 7: The weirdest song on this cd, it has strange effects all

over, and the same kickdrum and simple bass melody like structure again. It's

pretty weird, it's like Hux-Flux goes Atmos, but Israel style... Weird, I

can't explain it properly, but it works...! Not bad, although it does contain

another Matrix sample...!!! Arrghhh!! Can't those Israeliens be more

original??!! Anyway, not bad. On to track8, the final one. A bit slower in the

BPM range than the rest, but not very much so. It still kicks, and is not the

usual quiet ambient like song that Goa artists seem to like to pull off as

final track... This one is again filled with lots of noises and percussion,

and a simple melody that goes on and on, and some acidic like effects ... And

that concludes the album! Overall, this album really surprised me! I think

this is certainly not bad for a first effort, and with some more experience,

this guy could well be the second Atmos!! (only a little harder) I can enjoy t!

his album from the first to the last track!! I recommend this to anyone looking

for a little fresh psychedelic trance! And since this is not minimalistic,

those looking for non-minimalism can welcome this too!! So... 8/10 from me...

Bom Shankar!!

Nice one indeed and a good surprise, the label is Agnosia, not MDMA (they just

distribute) an Israeli house label, believe it or not. Israeli airy crunch,

strong scando influence- I like it, though it lacks a bit on the story side.

Favorites: 1, 3, 6, 7, 8.

If you like this check also FireWire compilation from Optimus. Shay Pur has two

tracks there under the name Z-Domain.

Bomshankar!

For mr. Goa above here.. I know it's Agnosia, cuz it says so on the cd, but

since MDMA handled the worldwide distribution, Children decided to put that

label on instead, which is a good thing in my opinion...

This is awesome Atmos-styled psytrance. But it's better than Atmos in many

ways, especially in the aggressive front.

Nice album, some cool hard sounds. Nice start for a young artist.

Acifhive, nice review :)

About the labels, I think both labels should be displayed, so the producers and

the distribution people will be happy.

Be well :)

this album is good. although it's not an album to listen entire. there are some

good tunes on this one but my favourite is 'another dimension' with the

amazing melody in the end of the track ... just fantastic. I must say the

music quality sounds pretty ok . great work. psychedelic rating : 7/10

This is not great in my honest opnion. I do like the bass lines and some of the

parts in several tracks. What truly hurts this album is that lady's voice!

They are childish, I mean that they sound like some black woman singing and

then they loop her annoying voice and mix it over and over, making it sound

more and more tweaked each time. (pitch or frequency change possibly?) These

voices are on more than one track. I have only heard the album once, but I

remember that it wasn't as great as I hoped for. I agree that for a first

album, Bandit has potential and this does not suck. Unfortunatly, the voices

do get mighty repititive and it does hurt the experience of the lasting

appeal. On the dance floor it probably sounds real good because of the beats

and bass lines, but I don't feel anything while listening to this album on the

head phones. Bandit is powerful, but power without direction, unless its

purpose of direction is to get you on the dance floor.

With more listening, I do appreciate tracks 1, 7 and 3 the most, followed by

track 8. Sadly, the voices in track 2 of the lady saying, "I need to hear you

scream my name, Punk...!!!" is EXTREMELY ANNOYING and I WISH it did NOT exist!

It is cheezy and repetitive! Both tracks 7.)- "Another Dimension," and track

1.)- "Yash" have lots of originality and they constantly surprise me with

twists and turns of psychedelic rhythm & melody. This album is somewhat

progressive however, and tracks 2, 5, and 6 just sound waaaaaaaaaay to

repetitive! However, I do enjoy several tracks here and I HOPE that Bandit

learns from this album and focus's more on the awesome, darker, more beautiful

and unprectible sounds like in tracks 7 and 1, when he or they come out with

their next album. Also, PLEASE KILL THOSE LADY VOICES OR SAMPLES FOR FUTURE

REFERENCE!

Good progressive-edge, Atmos/Klangstrahler Projekt style. A little darker than

light Atmos tracks, a little lighter than most dark Atmos tracks. Very nice

overall. Perfect, daytime music for outdoor parties. When everyone has woken

up, this music would be good to change to from the early morning "morning

trance" (Medicine Drum, and so on...) Works at ealy night too. 8/10

Very good album if you like minimal. Excellent mix of minimal French/Scandinav

trance. Album starts off more airy and progressive (like Atmos or

Klangstrahler), but finishes off in a more Neuromotor style. Very high

quality stompers here which are pretty original-sounding. Best trax: 3,4,6.

Highly recommend it, even though it's Israeli music, it sounds much better

than that. ;-)
