Navajo - Let's Fungaz

Artist: Navajo

Title: Let's Fungaz

Label: Creamcrop

Date: 2002

Track listing:

01. 07'26" Let's Fungaz

02. 06'50" Dropped In Psyched Out

Review:

Let's Fungaz is overall an absolute gem. My only complaint is on the

samples, but they aren't that bad. The track is progressive-percussive,

meaning it builds throughout adding texturous layers of percussion that make

you really move. They use a realy great little synth sample every now and

then that warps things up nicely. I'd reccomend this to both sides of the

minimal/full-on debate :)

Dropped in Psyched Out is also great. Starts with some excellent atmosphere

then percussion that is really refreshing. Synths pull and warp through the

periphery making a wonderful atmospheric soundscape of electronics. There

are some really great bits of synth work in here with tweaking and all that

really twist the mind. There is a really cool breakdown towards the end

where the percussion builds back up with elements of full-on percussion with

an excellent bassline and sounds to match. Very danceable. Ends with some

tabla-esque drum samples.

So overall you'll have a great addition to your collection if you choose to

get this one. Navajo seems to have some real potential here, and I hope

they keep it flowing.

ehh... I wasn't so keen on this one. The potential's there but I guess it's

just too noisy for my tastes. I can see a lot of other people liking it, but

personally I prefer a smoother overall sound. I'll withold a rating for the

time being.

Boring synthfart bonanza. nothinh happening except for some annoying

Let? Fungaz on the A side is an intense and very scratchy tune with weird

out-of-space melodies and crowded percussion work, building up and carrying

you inside to a very psychedelic experience. ?You have no idea how much fun

this is?... Good for dark forest nights.

On the B side is even more intense, a real scratching machine with alien sounds

flying all around you and nice tribal percussion sections. Nice breaking and

entering work and a good drive. Too much for me at times, but a sure treat for

the real hard moments of the night in a party.

Bottom Line: Two good pieces for hard and dark night moments in an outdoor

party.

I like 'dropped in psyched out' better than 'Let's Fungaz'... probably because

it has much more energy and nice long twisted scratching noises. Let's Fungaz

is pretty good as well, nice psychedelic vibes throughout... I'd say this is a

nice ep, 7.5/10.
