  1. Artist: Scopes Title: Digilog EP Label: Psyderweb Records Date: July, 2012 01 - Eyes Closed (72.5 BPM) 02 - Tatanka (64 BPM) 03 - Suddenly (66 BPM) 04 - Tools (69 BPM) 05 - Old Fashioned Air (63.5 BPM) Last I heard from Dutchman Marcel Hartholt was his Glass of Water EP from 2011. It was a nice glass of water and with his latest he's keeping the bpm's low. Which is good because stoners can't follow high bpm's. They just get lost and start spinning in circles. And this is stoner music. Moving at breakneck speed (holy sh*t we just got passed by an old lady with a walker!) if you were a sloth or a turtle walking on quicksand this must sound epic and incredible if augmented with drugs. That part of my life was over long ago so now I'm just like...get to the f*cking point already! Is it just me or is it funny that one of the tracks is called Suddenly? Suddenly implies rapidity, something decidedly absent from this release. This is a Tarantino flick where the drug deal goes bad and the doors burst open with guns blazing in super slo mo. Nah...I got it. Porn music. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  2. Artist: Ioon Title: The Ioonfinite Loop Label: Psyderweb Records Date: January, 2013 01 - Totally Let It Go (100 BPM) 02 - Ayamm (Innuendo Number 104) (104 BPM) 03 - Change The Nadi Flow (Guitars by DvZ) (100 BPM) 04 - Aes Drama (95 BPM) 05 - The Ioonfinite Loop (100 BPM) What a crazy name. On my screen it looks like Loon. How do you even pronounce it? Maybe you don't. Maybe it's like Prince and that stupid f*cking symbol. Probably not as flamboyantly gay as that. This is Johnny Gallucio from Italy with a deep trance EP. It's not downtempo or ambient and it isn't progressive, but simply music that does all those things without being put in box. While the title track was Ioonfinitely annoying, I really enjoyed Aes Drama? History here? Rejected demo? Stolen girlfriend? Tricked into going to a timeshare presentation? All we (and by we I mean me) can do is speculate. Nonetheless I liked the track with it's dreamy vibe and unfurling synths. If you told me Aes Dana did it I would easily believe you. He even has the tempo increase later in the track. Change the Nadi Flow is another track that makes you take notice as it unwinds layers of electronica amidst guitar riffs. Peaceful and reflective. For some reason it makes me think of Miami Vice where dramatic music was inserted with slow motion video for the most mundane actions. Definitely worth a listen. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  3. Artist: Scopes Title: Glass of Water EP Label: Psyderweb Records Date: September, 2011 01 - Glass Of Water (70 BPM) 02 - Daze (59.5 BPM) 03 - Astronauts (70 BPM) 04 - After The Break (70 BPM) "This is a glass of water. Colorless...tasteless." The country known for windmills, tulips, and wooden shoes brings us Marcel Hartholt with a nice 4 track EP that makes me want a glass of water. It's slow downtempo beats and soft synth touches that make me feel like I'm swimming in the deep blue. Mellow isn't a strong enough word for how this goes down. I was curious to hear what 59.5 BPM sounded like and it's a whisker away from comatose. None of the tracks are over 6 minutes so it's easy to digest. Favorite? Probably After the Break because it just takes me away to a nice place. As always free to download from our friend at Ekto. Ektoplazm Mdk
