    Review:

     

    Here is the third compilation of Cosmicleaf’s Nova Natura series...like the promotional thread says, “Press play and imagine the pure nature which everyone wants to live someday”.

     

    Track 1 from Cydelix “Fiber Optic” starts the compilation with an organic downtempo structure...it has a lot of pacific but psychedelic sounds, something making remember a water falling, together with some mellow synths and a melodic bassline.

     

    Track 2 is made by Zero Cult and is one of my favourites here...by one side is a very rhythmic and danceable track but for other it’s very relaxing and calm...it has an electric but mystic mood on it, really tripping one.

     

    Track 3 is done by Side Liner (one of my favourite chillout acts of this moment) and is called “Life Support”...it’s all in a downbeat structure, with some electronic noises mixed with some beautiful and quiet synth sounds that makes you be lay down, watching the sky, with no problems at all :)

     

    Track 4 is done by MLT and is a bit more energetic...it has some psychedelic dark sounds on it, but not too much...there is too some quiet piano notes, doing well with the beats.

     

    Track 5 is a remix of Zero Cult for “Song for Alex”, original made by Red Eye Express...this one is more atmospheric again and has some bright pads and synth sounds that gives a dreaming feeling to it.

     

    Track 6 is “Sunshine Velvet” by D.Batistatos and is another example of that D.Batistatos spooky and atmospheric formula...it has some morning acid sounds on it and a downbeat building up structure, just think that could be a bit longer...

     

    Track 7 is another one by Cydelix but this time with Red Eye Express...it has a dubbie bassline, with some morning and quiet elements, some man’s voice samples giving a rhythmic feeling, sunny one :)

     

    Track 8 is done by D.Batistatos and has some vocal samples that I don’t like so much...it has a nice dubbie groove but seems very similar from the beginning till the end.

     

    Track 9 “Gnw” is done by Sunhize and catch us to a more melancholic and introspective mood...it has some twisted downbeats and some electronic heavy samples floating in and out...nice but not my favourite.

     

    Track 10 is another remix, this time Side Liner remixing “Ice Hearts” by Chronos...it’s in the same melancholic atmosphere of the last one but has a bit more sunny sounds on it and a deepest bassline.

     

    Track 11 is done by Will-O-The-Wisp and ends the compilation in a relaxed and pacific ambient mood, teleporting us into a parallel chilled reality, with some psychedelic beats coming at the end.

     

    In my opinion we have a nice compilation here, all the tracks have a bit of the same style but by two sides, some more melancholic and heavy and some more sunny and bright...my favourites are 1,2,3,5 and 9, strongly recommended :)

    Trance remain seductive if exclude the sparkling of progressive and spiral,

    slow down its tempo and change range to go towards ambient and dub.

    For that , we have the second album of Nick Miamis aka Side Liner.

    A hypnotic and groovy album which give us the boarding pass from the first track.The voyage continues

    undulating with luster melodies and quite round bass.

    Higlights are "when the time has come" and "Monday Morning".Two titles very inspired!

    The remixes from MLT and Zero Cult are following too.

    From the other side comes Sunhize and the cooperation with Cydelix to boost the album with the risk to fall down to stereotypes while Hesius Dome and Arcane Trickster chose alternate the sonority to arabists and ambient groove.

    Cosmicleaf Records (Greece) has been releasing its polished and highly melodic style of psychedelic-leaning chill for around 4 years now. Volume one in this series lacked the depth of the label's other comps, with some tracks being so sweet they bordered on new age facsimiles of the Cosmicleaf sound. Nova Natura part 2 goes some way towards redressing the balance between pretty surfaces and more ambiguous undertows. Its best tracks are sweeping and colourful and mysterious, and all of them are once again immaculately produced. Label regulars Side Liner and Minos contribute tracks with that same magical sense of unfolding and discovery that defines great progressive club trance, at least in the way the sounds are layered. A surprising remix of Aussie band Not Drowning Waving's along "Cold & The Crackle" by Arcane Trickster is flat-out brilliant. It coaxes out the original's dark ambient qualities with brooding atmospheric drones and a big, slow drum break. Rhythmically the album offers various permutations of dub grooves, electro-breaks and slow doof. Texturally its those intricate, clean and rich futuristic sounds that Cosmicleaf artists do so well. Rating: 4/5

    “Global Slowdown” takes the listener all around the world, featuring a mixture of well established artists and emerging talent.

     

    Sunsaria (formerly Psyburbia) has released tunes through labels such as Matsuri Productions, Nova Tekk, EMI, Invisible and many more. Drawing upon the sublime vocals of Lulea, the track “Life is a dream” has already been picked up for a tourism advertisement on Australian TV. Collaborations with renowned Aussie dub producer ‘Winduptoys’ take the listener on a cosmic carpet ride of aural delights.

     

    Red Eye Express sees Tempest label boss Damiano Verna co opting master guitarist Georgio Giampetri to create the ultimate cross pollination of organic instrumentation and electronics. Along with his other production alias Arcane Trickster, Verna has now released material on a range of labels such as Equinox, Earthcore, YSE and Cosmicleaf.

     

    For many electronic music fans Rip Van Hippy, aka Geoff Hayles needs little introduction. His eclectic vision has won fans all over the world and his contribution to ‘Global Slowdown’ will not disappoint…..he samples the tribal rituals of cannibals!

     

    Kay Nakayama is the iconic figure behind legendary Japanese act ‘Intelligent Jazz’ and runs the ‘Chillscape’ label. His music is noted for its melody and uniquely Eastern sensibility.

    Sideliner from Greece is the creative vehicle for Cosmicleaf label boss Nick Miamis, a master of composition within the electronic genre.

     

    Mention must also be made of South Korea’s Potlatch who provide a standout track in “Too many”. New Israeli producer ‘the Nun Project’ typifies the global nature of this release with his collaboration with Japanese singer Hideo Blackmoon. Great work also comes from newcomer Stickleback and Zero Cult, whilst Hesius Dome aka ARIA award winning producer Simon Polinski (Yothu Yindi, The Church), and the Omm Squad help round out this lineup of international groove merchants.

    Cosmicleaf give us another compilation, the second one from Nova Natura series, let’s listen.

     

    Track 1 from Minos starts in a very relaxed and ambient mood...then the psychedelic atmosphere start to born and take us into some downtempo shamanic ritual, full of percussions and suspense.

     

    Track 2 is a remix by Arcane Trickster of the “Cold and the Crackle”, originally made by Not Drowning Waving...here we are projected into a downbeat tempo, very pacific, with some beautiful vocal samples.

     

    Track 3 is done by Side Liner and Will-O’-The-Wisp and is a bit more into the psychedelic world...as almost all Side Liner tracks, it has a nice and rhythmic downbeat formula that I really like

     

    Track 4 is from D.Batistatos, that is going to release an album very soon...it has a nice and hot ambient atmosphere, with some quiet beats going around.

     

    Track 5 is done by Zero Cult and continues in a downbeat tempo with some mellow and cheesy tunes...there is a morning atmosphere very present, beautiful for the start of any morning

     

    Track 6 is again by D.Batistatos...here they use a bit more agressive beats, that mixed with the quiet melodies gives the track a spooky but sunny feeling...the only problem is that his tracks are very short in time.

     

    Track 7 is another by Will-O’-The-Wisp but this time alone...it has some profound sounds that seems to be all over the place, if you are in a good mood you still, but if you aren’t it don’t brings you to there.

     

    Track 8 by Kick Bong is my favourite here...it’s in a downbeat tempo, some vocal samples going in and out, some organic instruments around, very nice production

     

    Track 9 by Side Liner is more fast and into the electro zone...it has some digital tunes over there, a very lucid bass line, ideal for finishing the night.

     

    Track 10 is done by Cydelix and seems to be a kind of traditional music from some psychedelic country...very rhythmic and danceable, with some bright and happy melodies.

     

    Track 11 by MLT take us to some jazzistic downbeat open air concert, makes me reminder a medieval party in a castle in one summer night...the construction is very nice, the only bad thing is that is too short.

     

    To finish the compilation comes a track by Sunsaria featuring Lulea...downbeat tempo, mixed with Lulea beautiful voice and with some snares behind...I think the track could be more interesting if we dont listen so many times the title.

     

    In general I liked the compilation, it has a lot of different types of sounds into the chillout portal...my favourites here are 1, 3, 5, 8 and 11...a must have
