  1. Yes, certainly. I wouldn't argue against triplets as a matter of principle, of course they could also be used to make tracks more dynamic and rhythmically complex, but I haven't heard any such examples so far to be honest.

Well, take a hear at this

This send you directly to the middle of the track, when tripplets come, but you can listen to the entire song, that's an amazing track !

Look at how the triplet help giving this track a good rythmic. The snare does it very well too !

I don't even speak of the atmosphere of this track...So wonderful !

I've had the luck to have seen Zen Mechanics playing it live at Timegate 2012 ! It was fantastic ! It has even been recorded ! If you wan't to see it, it's here

  2. I really had to laugh a lot - all the more so since much of it seems true, from what I've gathered so far. In fact, most of the ten points had crossed my mind before at parties when the more mainstream kind of stuff was playing. The triplets in particular made me laugh: last time I was at a party (my second one of all time, actually), I couldn't help thinking how easily the majority of the audience could be 'tricked' into applauding the DJ and dancing more intensely as soon as such triplet bass lines set in. I found it to be a really cheap trick with little to no musical value, since there was nothing else to catch interest on the musical side.

Sur, using only triplet to make public dance is not that good...

But making a dynamic and powerfull Rythmic with the help of triplet can make a really good stuff !

As Rotwang said, I think it's more about fact that those triplet are overused

  3. Hard decisions, but I'd say:

Goa: Astral Projection - Trust in Trance (and their In The Mix double album too)

    Psy: X-Dream - Radio.

First was a jaw dropping thing when it was released. Second introduced me to tech-trance (old school I mean), which is my favorite genre.

Trust in Trance from AP is such a classic one ! I would also have choosen it...if Blue energy from Jaia weren't that good :P

I can't say much on Radio from X-dream since I know less this project, but I will soon listen to this album to have some opinion on it

  4. Indoor - Bom Shankar is a track from the 90s, and early ages... :)

They did release it for the first time now but the melody was also used in California Sunshine - The Sound Of Goa (2010) because Miko also took part in the composition of this tune back then (on DAT the track circulated as Avi + Miko - Bom Shankar). I was very happy they finally released it!

Regarding BPC, darkill, you should listen to the original mix, it is lacking the "classical music" part, as you will discover, so it is different from the original and a nice interesting discovery, I have never heard of this mix before and I am happy they released it!

Thanks to the label for reviving the memories and bringing us more goa trance, a solid VA that I recommend everyone to have.

Waouv, thanx for those informations !

I really didn't know all that about this Bom Shankar track. Im listening right now to The sound of Goa by California Sunshine as you recommanded me and I must say this is just amazing ! I even like it more than the Bom shankar track, from Indoor !

If I get it, they made Boom Shankar with Indoor and than California Sunshine decided to take back the melody to make a new track, The sound of Goa ?

Correct me if Im wrong, I don't know all those Goa trance project very well

  5.

BUT, as far as the amount of killllaaaargh tracks on ONE album is concerned, how could one possibly beat this?

    1. Kabalah

    2. Enlightened Evolution

    3. The Feelings

    4. Utopia

    5. Black and White

    6. People Can Fly

    7. Radial Blur (with MFG!)

    8. Aurora Borealis

    9. Still Dreaming (Anything Can Happen)

Do you mean Black and White, the artist of Psy-trance who realized such thing like 20 for 7 ?

    -----

    Edit

Shame on me, it's black and white, the song by Astral Projection from the album Trust in Trance.

    Sorry for my mistake lol

  6. @darkill & Padmapani: I believe your disagreement is based on a misunderstanding - correct me if I'm wrong but I think darkill used the word "psychedelic" as a shorthand for "psychedelic trance" as a genre, whereas Padmapani read it as an adjective describing the track. IOW, a track can be psytrance without actually being psychedelic.

Oh yeah, that must be this ! I didn't think he would us Psychedelic as an adjectiv :P

Thank you for having clarified this !

    Review :

Here we go ! After it's first album, Beyond Good and Evil, Atma come back with another album, this time realized under another label : Yellow Sunshine Explosion...This label is know to be a massive "Goa" compilation production, and most of time they doesn't make good releases. But some time it happend that they give some good stuff, and trust me, this is what happend with this album from Atma !

Atma is well know for making tracks having strong kick with great bassline, accompanied with beautiful melodies. With this album he definitly confirmed that he's one of the pioneer of the Psy-trance scene.

    Intro :

Not much to say about it, a short introduction, nothing really amazing there.

    Fortress of the Mind :

The song start after a very short introduction, and here comme a pretty kick with nice bassline. Slowly but surely, some tune begin to grow up. In this track, Atma build up a fantastic atmosphere, spacy and deep. A nice song, althought melodies could have been more developped.

    Timeless Solitude :

Definitly a very good track ! Still with a heavy kick and nice bassline, Atma create a complete atmosphere with this song : he builds the main melody using break, short light tune, and he rise his song with new tunes and melodies ! When you listen to this song, you really feel being in a Spaceship travelling out of the earth. Solid realisation, however instead of building a main melodie, Atma decided to come with some strange noisy sound at end of the track, wich is good and bad : good because it really enhance the atmosphere of the track, bad because it doesn't give this song a true powerful melody.

    The Secret of Meditation :

What a track ! What a melody ! What a kick ! What a bassline ! Well, this is for me one of the best track of this album. The kick and bassline give a strong energy to the track, while the background tune establish the spacy atmosphere of this song. The voice samples fits also very well this track. On 1:47 come a break, and it's there that Atma decide to give the complete beautiful Melody of the song. And on 2:23, he throws all the element he got to give this track a powerfull energy. Rest of the song is filled with original tune, always giving something more to the song, and also filled with nice break. Amazing track, respect !

    Moments Of Truth :

The song start with a Piano melody, which is not one of the best melody of this album but which is ok. Than as for the other track, the whole stuff is coming with kick, bassline, tune in background making nice atmosphere. However, the main melody is really what I don't like in this song. I mean this melody at start sound ok, but it's when Atma developes it more that I don't like it. I don't know, this ain't a bad melody at all but this ain't neither a great melody too. At 5:37 it's getting better with nice background tune. A good track but one of the worse of this album (Still a good track !).

The Dome Of The New Era :

Very short intro to start, and fast come this loud kick with good bassline...Than the kick is raised up, a strong kick ! In this track, I don't like the melody but I love the background Tune, they are very nice and you really feel like being in another part of this world. At 5:36, Atma offer us a great breakdown part of this song, this is really amazing how he slow the track down keeping this spacy atmosphere ! And than he just give back to the track it's standard energy, doing it very well ! A very nice track, not by it's melodies, but by the technics used to make the structure of the track. Final melody make it sound like alien, very nice !

    Paranormal Activity :

No need to say that : great kick and bassline, always in the same kind of style but never the same as you hear in the other track.

How to describe this song ? Nice melodies, good background tune who make you feel this track has been written on Mars (haha), and nice track's structure. That's a good track of this album, not one of the best but not one of the worse !

    The Tomes Of Power :

At start, you hear a voice sample, than come background tune and noise...Until here, everything is ok. Than come some breakdown, well brought. On 2:20 you can even hear some guitar's riff, the first you may hear in this album, and that fit well with the track. But then, come this horrible melody, at 2:33 (in background), wich for me just kill the track ! It's really a shame, all was great until there, but this melody doesn't fit at all with this track. It sound good, but I don't like how the note are thrown. I don't even talk about the melody going up on 4:08 : it sound good but note are not well thrown. Still it's an okay track, not bad but could be much better. Worse track of the album personnaly !

    Spiritualism And Love :

This track begin with a growing up volume, giving this song a little "introduction". The background tune are very nice. This is a more progressive track than the other (You could even find this track on Goa 2009 Vol 1, from YSE), but that's one of the best of the album ! Great break at 2:19, you really feel emotion hearing the melodies and background tunes. Nothing more to say ; good structure, amazing atmosphere, and very good sounds used. Very nice track !

    The Rise Of Overman :

Last track of this great album, and for the end Atma give the best. For me that is definitly the best track of this album, and one of the best of whole Atma's song until now ! Kick and bassline are good, but the best is for sure the melody. At 1:52 you can clearly hear it. Man ! That's it ! Spacy, deep, light but strong ! How can you make it better ? Excellent tune in background too. This track as also a great energy. I feel so many emotion with the amazing melodies you find in this track. Good structure of the track too.

    Overall :

    What an album !

For every song, it's the the same recipe : building the atmosphere with background tune and giving energy with kick and bassline. Atma does it for every track but it always sounds good and it's never getting repetitiv, it's what make this album great ! Most of the melodies used are beautiful.

The presence of amazing song like "Secret of Meditation", "Spiritualism and Love" and "The Rise of Overman" make this album a must-have for those who love Psychedelic Trance !

    Best Track : 4, 9, 10.

    Worst track : 5, 8.

    Rating : 8,5/10

  8. I really love this compilation. This is how I like my newschool best...lots of melodies, lots of power, energy, etc. Laughing Skull is a god.

Completly agree on this ; this is how newschool goa should be for me....And yeah, definitly I think Laughing Skull is a very good track, as I said second best of this compilation for me

  9. Goa Etnica-Alien Protein

psy X Dream-Radio BUT if u mean newer stuff Klopfgeister-Sweet Compromise (proggy)

By psy-trance I do not especialy mean newer stuff.

To clarify it, let me give you some example :

For me, "The gathering", from infected mushroom, is a psy-trance album and you can't really say it's new (1999 -> 14 year old...)

But of course psytrance is now much more present in actual scene then it was in the past...And of course I didn't separate Full on And psytrance ^^

  10. If you had to choose only two album, more exactly, one of Goa-trance kind (Means nitzhonot and nitzhogoa are include in it) and the other one of Psy-trance kind (It means fullon, dark-psytrance and progressive psytrance are include in it), what would it be ?

    My personnal choice :

For Goa-trance : Blue Energy, from Jaïa

From Psy-trance : Adaptation, from Phobia (Guest most of you probably never heard of it, but it's very good)

  11. Im new to this forum but all I want to say you is :

-No, don't stop posting on this forum, I think this forum really need active people

-If you creat thread only for having a lot of replies and expecting it will happend, well, it's a bit disappointing. I means you can't force people answering you. damn !

We're here for speak about psychedelic trance, and Im already pretty happy to see that there's a such forum about it, so asking many replies it's asking much :P

  12. just because it's fullon doesn't mean it's psychedelic. contemporary fullon is not the same music as fullon in 2003 or so. even the track from the video in the original post is basically fullon, but is it psychedelic?

Well, I actually consider that Psychedelic Trance is a general Style which encompass different style.

To me, Psychedelic Trance encompass the next style :

    -goa trance

    -Psy-trance

-Full-on (I don't make any difference between "comtemporary" fullon and the fullon from 2003, like you said)

    -Nitzhonot

    -Nizthogoa

    -Dark Psytrance

I might forget some kind of style, but here is it, as long as a song fit in one of these categories, it means he below to "Psychedelic Trance".

I think why we both don't considere it as psychedelic trance is that because you divide the full-on in two part, and one of this part isn't even anymore in the "Psychedelic Trance" tree anymore for you, but I don't understand why lol.

  13. Wait, that Indoor track is a new one?

Well, as I discovered Indoor with this compilation, I went to discogs in order to see if this track was already realized on another CD. And of what I saw in discogs the answer is no, but I might be wrong. So yes, it look like it's a new one from indoor !

    Nice review :)

Thank you, appreciation are always welcome when you spent lot of time on review :)

  14. Do you object to the people at parties doing fire poi, or contact juggling? Do you imagine those people didn't practice beforehand? If you answered "no" to both of those questions, why do you think dancing is any different?

I can't dance well and probably wouldn't bother even if I could, but I don't see why anyone would object to people who can and do. We should be grateful that they've made the effort.

Well, let me clarify something :

To me people who are doing juggling or playing with fire are giving a kind of show, I've nothing against it, I like to see them performing such thing, but to me it's different from the people who come to party in order to listen to Psychedelic trance AND dance. Dancing as a lot to do with the Psychedelic Trance to me, I mean you don't necessary need to dance to appreciate it (Surely no !) but dancing on it with the smile in a great ambiance give to this music another dimension.

Of course, you can prepare a special dance and perform it as a show at the party, in this case I would consider it the same way as doing juggling or playing with fire ! But preparing a dance just for dance somehow well at a goa party, this is what I find stupid. Because you don't need any preparation if you want to go at a goa party, I means you don't have to dance well enough or to have listened to enough song to appreciate the show (The only preparation you may need is a mental preparation !).

I don't know if made my opinion clear enough with this post, english is not my native language so it give me the task difficult in order to make it correctly :)

  15. Yay, thanx. I was surprised that nobody already made a review of it ! Took me some time to make it but I really wanted to share my point of view on this great compilation.

Im probably gonna make some other review.

  16. My only feedback to your review would be to cut back on the exclamation points. Everything else is great and I find the ostrich part hilarious. Thanks for the review!

Well, now that you say it, I must admit that I've over used the exclamation points. There's like two every lines lol !

Thanx for your appreciation, I was afraid people found this review too long and uninteresting but I see it wasn't the case !

  17. I completly disagree with you guys

I find this album well realized, with nice melodie (And not cheesy as you said).

All what you can say is that the same kind of kick and bass are often used for several track, but atma has always perform like this !

Did you at least listened to the whole album before saying such bad thing about this release ?

For example, listen to the last track : the guide. This surprised me to hear a downtempo track from Atma, and what surprised me even more, is to hear how good is it ! As good as some track that are in the last Ra album, "Unearthly", and Im not joking !

Well this is my opinion !

  18. And now for you who don't know to dance

    I mean...

Omg can't believe it ! This girl is serious ? Preparing all a dance move for a Psytrance song ! It just go all against the principe of the dance in Goa party : you should just let your body dance as he want, without care if it look nice or not, omg, Im very disappointed of seeing such video about Psychedelic song !

That disappoint me more than it make me laugh :(

    Review :

And here we go ! Goa-trance.com, which is at start just a facebook group, decided to contact some artist to release a compilaton of Goa trance song.

So what you will find on this compilation will mostly be Newschool Goa trance song.

One more thing to add : it's a limited edition (500 CD only).

    Afgin - Goa head :

Compilation begins with this track from Afgin and I've to say I've seen better work from him. However, this ain't a bad track : a loud kick, some nice melody all along the song, by exemple at 4:41. Well, not an awesome track but not a bad track neither !

    Goasia - Sundance :

Sundance ! Ahh ! I don't know about you, but the sound wich start the song make me think of a desert, at midday, where the sun is so strong that nothing else resist to him !

Then, the song continue with a nice melody (Ok, some of you will say it's a bit cheesy, cmon guys that doesn't sound bad !) and an energizing rythmic ! Then it continue with other melodies !

The melodies are very oriental-like tunes, and for this compilation, it just fit perfectly ! Not necessery to say more about this track, that's a good one from Goasia !

    Indoor - Bom Shankar :

This is the kind of track, you only need to hear the kick, the bass and the intro to know it's gonna be an amazing release !

And that's it ! Bom Shankar, from Indoor, start with a nice and strong kick, accompanied with nice bassline. There's a kind of goa tune in background, and then comme the main melody : WAOUV ! A very nice melody, which one give a "dark" aspect to this track (Nothing to do with dark psytrance...). Then you got another melody, Im not going to give you the entire description of the song, just to say you, the melodies are very nice, fits very well with the kick & bass, the song got a nice structure, the intro is nice, the tune are also awesome....I personnaly think it's the best track of this compilation !

    Radical Distortion - Asinar :

A short intro and a powerfull kick for this track ! And it fast comes with melodies ! What to say about this song ? Well, there's some nice Melodies (haha you're going to tell me I've said it for every track but damn isn't that true ?!), and I like how some break are made. For example, at 4:14. Oh and I forgot about the bassline, wich is quite nice ! That's it, not an amazing but a good track !

S.U.N. Project - Out of my brain (Old school mix) :

As this is an Old school Mix, I decided to listen to the original mix before review this one. So let's be honest : the original one is a nice psy-trance track (altought I consider it has a goa kick, the melody are more psytrance than goa). I've heard a lot of old school goa song remixed in psy-trance or progressive psy-trance, but i've rarely (to be honest never) heard the opposite. And that's what we got with this old school mix.

So, it start with a nice kick and pretty simple but nice bassline. Than come the main tune, this guitar melody, which is very nice and change of the oriental-like melody used in the other song, but not very different of the original mix. Where it does change, it's how the melody is re-used in the other part of the song, it's very well used, the structure make it more goa-trance like, a nice work so. Only little thing : the damned melody starting at 4:36 !!! Guys, im Sorry to have to say that, but it sound like butchering an ostrich

Except that, it's a good overall track, with good guitar tune.

Liquid Flow - Subconscious Minds :

A good track, with dynamic melody and strong kick. You know it sound a bit like those nitzhonot tune : it goes a bit "everywhere", but in this goa trance song, the melody are well compacted, I means they do fit with the structure of the track. To be honest, one of the reason why I bought the compil', is that I heard a preview of every track and the preview of this one just amazed me !

Laughing Skull - The Shine Side :

A nice song, with deep and powerfull melodies ! The one starting at 3:46 is just amazing, the best of the entire album for me ! You can also hear a very short voice sample at end of the track, if I state it it's because there's very very few voice sample in this compilation !

There's a nice outro. A nice song overall, the second best one of the compilation for me !

    Omnivox - Corona :

I am a bit disappointed of this song. I find the first melody cheesy, however the other one are ok, it's just this first one, who come back several time in the song which doesn't sound great to me. There's a nice break in the middle/end of the track, then it slowly grow up and when you're at the top, here come a damned melody...Yes, this cheesy melody ! That's seriously the "black point" of this track, except that, it's an okey track ! At the end of the track this cheesy melody is even being better !

Blue Planet Corporation Alidade (Classical Mix) :

Here we go with last track of this compil' !

First of all, I like the introduction, slowly growing, but slowly being strong, with nice tune ! Well, this is a Classical Mix, I don't know what the "classical" stand for, I just saw that the original Mix was longer than this one, and had a different mastering, a longer intro...(To be honest I didn't listen to the entire original mix, I know this is a classic for goa trance, but excuse me there's so much to listen in the psychedelic trance!).

So, to make it short, it's a very nice track, very soft, with those piano melodies, this pretty nice kick and this soft atmosphere ! It make me think a bit about "Jaia - Mai Mai", but in a different way ! As mai mai, it's very soft and relaxing, but there's no voice sample.

So, a pretty nice track, which fit well for a compilation ending.

    Overall :

Goa trance Revolution is a very good newschool goa trance compilation !

If you like newschool goa trance, I strongly recommend it, it has nice melodies !

If you're more an oldschool goa trance fan, I still recommend it, because you know, there's not much newschool goa trance compilation and this one is the perfect example of what newschool goa trance is !

    To buy it :

    Bandcamp

    Discogs

    Suntrip
