  1. Happy new merry http://www.uio.no/conferences/imc7/NFotm99/December99.htm http://www.smws.com/other/Archive/Misc/Xmas/Xmas.html thought you might like these, ho, ho, ho ian
  2. So ive heard, its been explained and demonstrated, but woosh, over my head. I'll take your recommendation and get the frequential dynamics evolved from the chaotic singularity that is the initial state, first. observe ! ian
  3. cheers ! didnt quite understand the limiter/multi compressor bit, but the first bit works (well its working better, i shall tinker on ) ian
  4. Its ok, i'm not offended, ( mainly because it doesnt bore me !). Adding more percussion etc is more a personal preference and personally i think i need to emphasise the bits i am hearing rather than it becoming too 'expected' and 'predictable' but thanks anyway, it's just not the direction i have in mind. The problem is converting mind to sound ! . I'll let you know when the version 2 is done. ian
  5. Whats new york compression ? Everything was done on reason v.1 through some powered Makies that a friend lent me, it also sounds too confused when i play it through my normal hi-fi ! Someone also suggested mixing and mastering.....er, um ? ? ? Lots to learn ! ian
  6. Cheers various, you are right about the kick, it didnt quite sound so weak before i converted it to mp3, but no excuse, it'll be redone soon. as for the rest, its meant to freak to you out ! (you should hear the second half !) ian
  7. hi, ive just listened to zarbyland, very, very cool ! I wont give you a critique cos the whole tune is excellent. Its in my playlist and it's better than a lot of bought trance i have heard. I am now downloading some more of your stuff and ting from your site. cheers, look forward to the cd coming out. ian

  10. Hello, An interesting experiment with electronic equipment is to change the overall pitch of the tune so that each wavepeak of the sound is harmony/time with the tempo and effects. You know how a deep sound beaks up into single pulses of sound, well this trick means you can use thoses pulses as percussive parts. Because certain tempo's and frequencies have specific effects on the 'feel' of a piece as well as influencing brain rhythms, states of awareness etc, combining the 2 ideas may have a reinforcing effect on one another. it can certainley have an effect on how you 'see' the music whilst you are making it. An intersting frequency to use as your overall pitch is 432hz (-32 cents in reason) this means 'A' is vibrating at 432000 times, 'D' at 144000 etc. Becuase these are whole numbers, it is easier to manipulate them and use tempo's that resonate in harmony with them. Also, if you use 432hz, the number of 'sacred' numbers that crop up are quite surprising, but it's worth discovering without my opinion clouding it ! Another trick for scitrance is to use the fibbonacci sequence of numbers to place effects and changes throughout a piece. If you dont know about this sequence, it is a natural growth pattern in nature that causes sunflowers and nautilus shells to grow in spirals. It is a way of counting that adds all the previous numbers. The first part of the sequence is 0, 1 ,1 , 2, 3, 5 ,8, 13 , 21 (8+13=21). If you use electronic equipment, it's a lot easier to intergrate science into making music, and as trance is very much about altered states of conciousness, it is quite interesting to be able to explore/visualise it from a more hands on 'manipulatable' and communicable angle (as numbers can be translated into lots more forms than just sound) does anybody else like waffles ? ian x
