Hey guys... first CD review, I guess I'm reviewing old platipus stuff. anyway, here it is:

this is a cd compilation of platipus records 2 and 3.

The First track, the famous, but terribly overplayed Robert Miles - Children seems very out of place with all the other names. But its okay, I guess, for non- psy lovers. I'm afraid I don't like this one. his music tends to be very cheesy, and when I went out to buy his album, I was sad to find all the instruments he used were the same.

Poltergeist  - Vicious Circles: this one is stomping!! heh... no subtleties here, just fine acidpsy. some good 303ing action here... neat snare fx too.

Art Of Trance - Octopus (Man With No Name Remix): heh, a good mwnn remix... I was very dissapointed with his mixing job, and tracks on distance to goa 9, his best stuff is certainly his old stuff.

Salamander - Tempest (Union Jack remix): This one will always have a place in my heart. there is very good 303ing in here. as well, neat snare fx. very simplistic arpeggios, but complex percussion arrangements make this one very catchy.

Union Jack - Red Herring: This one takes time to like. the vowel pads seem like union Jack are over doing it, but then, after a few listens, you start to really feel the soundscapes and they start drivingthemselves into the middle of your head

Catalyst - What?: one word: weird. this one sounds like a duck.

Quietman - Plastic Gourd (10 Inch Remix): This one has a long intro (a full 3 minutes), if your not into a long dragging intro, don't listen to this one. you'll be missing out on alot.

Art of Trance - Octopus (original mix): Wow. this one, I think I prefer to the mwnn remix, big soundscapes, again, neat arpeggios, and cutoff freqs and all that. and to top it off: A conch shell!! ;)

Union Jack - Cactus: this one is one of the more intense ones, that drive themselves into the center of your head ;). beautiful choirs, and haunting acidlines, top this one off.

Art of Trance - Orange: nin tata ;). first thing you hear... I swear... it is. this one is a very light acid trancer, cvery danceable but also very psychedelic...

anyway, I will get back to reviewing the second half, i have an exam to go to...

    I'm back!!

Anyway disk 2 open with the 14" mix of two full moons and a trout by Union Jack this one has a very jungle-y vibe (not jungle music but like sorta... in the jungle ;))

union Jack is followed by the clanger's mix of Art of Trance - cambodia this is a neat one, again rich with complex arpeggios, and neat 303 effects.

next, another remix ; the FOG mix of The Clanger's Seadog. Not my cup of tea, can't say I like it.

Yet another remix, this time its vicious circles. I think it doesn't have as much energy as the first, but it still shines

seeing as how i'm running out of things to say for remixes, tracks one through 9 are remix tracks....

The colours is yet another beautiful, acidic psychedelic trancer... and one of my personal favs.

Technossomy's contribution (elektron bender) is a very eastern influenced acidpsy production, (lolz, "words of advice for young people")

Art of Trance - Gloria (wtf uplifting psy???) yes its uplifting acidpsy. driving bassline and beautiful strings are sure to converts any uplifting fan into a psy fan ;)

Nicely - Away The Throttle Pedal Stop (Union Jack Remix): kind of mediocre imo...

Art Of Trance - Deeper Than Deep (Poltergeist Remix) this one is also a little mediocre

this album should have cosed with Union Jack's "Lollipop Man". it would have made for a nice end, instead, it ended with the awkward "sea of Tranquility" which I wasn't feeling.

anyway, this album is definately worth buying, if some how you could throw away the first and last track, this would make for a hard hitter.....

    catch you later ;)

  4. nemo.... thanks for the review... the opening synth is a soft synth.... that comes free with fruityloops... 3x0sc with some distort and delay....

thx for the reviews guys... heh on a diff forum, someone said this had good drive ;) au contraire here ;)

  5. hello everyone.... i'm posting a warm... bassy psy trance track... should sound pretty good on a sub :D . this is still a first mix so i'll keep updating it according to your posts ...

I call this ugly thing: Primal Instinked

made on a windy rainy night... thought i should make something dark sounding. i made this.....

    genre: psy

    bpm: 147

    time: 7:10

    bitrate: 128 kb/s

    au revoir

    link

  6. hey buddy... i recommend you change hosts ;).... too many seconds to wait for your song. plus the d-load time.... anyway... here goes:

    -cool intro

    -neat sounds

-guitar and melody thingy don't go good together.... imo... until the fx roll in ;)

    -3:15 is neat

    -4:10guitar is neat

-later the guitar gets pretty dark... i like that

all in all, it feels sorta like it's missing some low freqs... to warm it up a bit ;) anyways, catch you later

  7. hello..... this is a mix of acid trance, psychedelic trance, and drill'n'bass. the drill took a while... i gave myself a week's interval between each pattern... the main square synth acid line is a phased, flanged, compressed, and eq'd, ts404, the other is a 3osc with echo delay, and the slider is a ts404, and some strings for final touch.

    specs:

    bpm: 147

    kbps: 128

    time: 9:24

    link: Glitchkik

    thx for listening.... ;)

  8. hey.... the synths were meant to be simple.... if you've ever heard "tempest" by salamander... thats an old one.... it is so simple but catchy you wouldn't believe it. ;) anyway, thx, i'll have to turn down some instruments and thingy... i've only listened to it through fruityloops and i think some of the energy was lost in my bit rate ;)

    catch you later

  9. yes!!! Venetian Snares!!!! canada's finest

he is amazing... you can't put more emotion into songs than he can what with Rossz csillag allat szuletett. some times i choose to listen to his stuff over my psy... and his influences come from everywhere.... metal, rock, classical, jazz, everything.... he remixed a judas priest song.... CRAZY!!!!!!!

his best one by far is rossz... you can't get better than that.

also look for Squarepusher he does some good drill too....

and aphex twin, i'm not too big a fan of his stuff, although the stuff he releases under

the alias "aphex" is pretty cool

look for aphex - Boxing Day

    thats a neat ambient one

and just to be an ass... jungle brothers ;)

  10. Heh, Qualicum - is that a Native Canadian name?

    362577[/snapback]

yep... there is a small town called qualicum, about 15 mins from where i am... how do you know where it is??....

by the way i listened to your song, and i must say it is pretty good ;)

  11. hey buddy, i was drawnto this by it's name.... merry christmas to you too.... hope you know what lakshmi means.... if you don't uh..... <_<

    i'm downloading right now....

nice acidy lead.... to start with. the arpy is very nice. around 1:20 is too cool. more intelligent percs are called for. 2:40 is neat but unexpected. really cool though. 3:45 back to normal cool

overall pretty neat but i could expect it being played with a little more.

  12. hey buddy (you reviewed The Minimalist on TA) anyway, neat song.... the vowel pads are screaming dark.... and it's good im not hearing that thumping kick that seems to be in like uh....... every freaking trance song..... I woudn't call this IDM, you need more intelligent drum beats. and more.... more... more... drum patterns.....

    your on fruityloops right?? (flstudio)

if you have beatslicer full.... just load the drillnbass sample and completely twist it up... make completely unconventional drum patterns and things like that... completely forget stereotype drum beats and just make your own... and make them go on for like 8, 16, 32 or even 64 bars..... thats intelligent drum patterns... and completely chop up your beats. also completely forget complex melodies.... in IDM its all about the beats, clicks, and grit

i'll give you an example: here

i actually just layered some allready sliced beats and granulised some just a little bit... but there you go ;)

you may want to consider changing you host.... I could barely find the link <_<
