  1. I don't have a picture of my CD collection right now, but it's now reached 2250 (all originals)... The list can be seen here:

    http://www.discogs.com/user/PKS

I have a CD WALL that I built myself... Some carpenter work had to be done to get everything as I wanted. I have all artist albums sorted alphabetical by artists, and all compilations sorted alphabetical by labels... If I didn't have such a system, it would have been inpossible to find a record when there is a special one I want to listen to...

Third release & compilation delivered by Norwegian label Chill Tribe, this time PKS (the compiler) has decided to hit a big time according to the artists involved in this new project.

All the names are quite famous or are hiding celebrities from the first hour Trance-Goa scene; and when they're slightly less known like Kiwa or Highpersonic Whomen, they already benefits of a nice reputation among psytrance experts for their suomi genuine and quality production.

Furthermore the tradition of the artist presentation's booklet is maintained : through 8 pages you got lots of infos about all the artists present on Ear Pleasure as same as their photos. Let's mention too , the mastering done by the 4CN team (Tim Schuldt & Detlev Funder) & the design realised by Are Marmelade.

1> Robert Leiner (Sweden) - Beginning Of The End, you immediately feel the ambient-techno production past of the artist through his mischievous unpolished sound at the beginning. The track is melodic with a plethora of happy sounds & layers from which emanates an asiatic feeling due to the main use of short hit tones.

2> Blue Planet Corporation (Gabriel Masurel from France) - Gengis Khan's Reverie, proposes the most exotic Chill-Out side in Ear Pleasure, in the same dominant trend exploited in the previous Chill Tribe release 'Relaxed Journeys'. The tune is also noticeable by the different real instruments played which confers its richness : guitar by Glenn Ropars, congas & caxixi (?) by Julien Chambeyron, Sitar by Fredox & live drums by Gabriel himself.

3>Kris Kylven (from Finland) - Forgotten Souls, keeps going a bit on the exotic vibe, oriental to be more precize, with the use of some vocals, mixed with preponderant electronic chill parts though. At 3'36 the impress is to enter one story of 'The 1001 nights's Tales' with a typic fairy sound.

4>Cosmosis (Bill Halsey from UK) - The Himalaya, takes us in a journey for climbing The Himalaya with propelling guitar riffs & ascendant lysergic layers, the tune benefits also of some oriental vocals for supporting you in your task. Like this, the vision of the Himalaya doesn't appear anymore as an unclearable obstacle.

5>Digital Mystery Tour (Stephane Holweck from France) – Nemo, submarine atmosphere mixed with bed ocean's exploration feelings are developed here. What is he looking for? That's a mystery, but one thing is certain, his research is meticulous & peaceful, all done in good harmony with the local population. Nemo is progressing slowly through the seas with a climatic Chill sound scape on deep & muffled Jazzy down tempo , which is mainly kept up by wind instruments. Nemo seems to have finished his day, a likeable one will start tomorrow.

6>Slot Machine (Nick Taylor, Sean Candy & Melaine Knight from Australia) - Quick And The Dead (Snake and Thing Dub rmx), the tune is highly eclectic mixing Pink Floyd floating riffs alike for the start, sweet dub linking all along, short nervous, nervous electric riffs (but not heavy) plus some background vocals for the punk touch. So, even if its more experimental side fits well in the compilation, nevertheless i consider this tune aside from the rest of the cd. The result is not enough relaxing, chilling for me & more focused on a weird hybrid style; so it never really managed to catch my brain, will sound better for specialists in crossover styles.

7>Kiwa (Markku Louhio, Matti Elsinen from Finland) – Inside, let us fly on a mid tempo funky structure, astonishingly integrating some flute part. Only Suomi people seem able to produce (or talented & crazy enough to tempt it) unexpected working & effective combinations like these. Once you're caught by the flow, it plentifully takes you : those who are talking the less about it , are the ones who are listening it the more !

8>Highpersonic Whomen (Tommi Sirkiä, Markku Louhio from Finland) – Free Space, deliver a Dub-Jazzy Down tempo tune with some brass gimmicks in the background supported by a broken beat, the whole thing is constantly embellished with somme little sounds such as soft bleeps & kinda maracas imitating little birdies singing. The sound coloration & content are early springtime: fresh & very animated.

9>Bluetech (Evan Marc from USA) – Embrace, proposes a more intimist & melancholic atmosphere in morning tones. It's funny, there's a feeling which reminds me some old adventure-action video games music, especially when near the end of the game before the final meeting with your main enemy; you were generally crossing empty & desolated places.

10>Zen Lemonade (Gus Till, Super Cozi From Bali) - Island Of Forgotten Dreams, is based on a sweet vibraphone's melody accompanied with ethereal layers. The atmosphere is very sweet & subtle also sensual with some murmur in the background; an incitement to the bliss and/or the mediation.

    Climaxs: 1,5,7,8,10

    Favourites:2,3,4,9

A new compilation from Chill Tribe, a new strong selection which is more audacious and experimental on some tracks, with also more chill diversity all along; and once again a new recommendation for Chill Tribe with Ear Pleasure.

  3. Ahhh, finally got my hands on the Graham CD on Equinox after years of searching:

    http://www.discogs.com/release/312883

This CD is EXTREMLY good!!!!!! I LOVE every second of it! One of the best ambient releases of all times, from Graham Wood, one of my favourite artists... Anyone remembers his opening dj set at Samothraki? I had tears of joy in my eyes while lying on the beach listening...

And this one just came in from pressing, ready for the shops!:

  4. Hi

Yes, Are Marmelade has made the cover art as usual, just in time before he left to India... Eight page booklet with pictures and info about all the artists as usual...

Arabesque has put out some sound clips on their site... Very short clips (45seconds) so it doesn't give the impression you probably are looking for yet, but anyway, for the most curious:

    http://arabesque.co.uk//index.php?option=c...6&Itemid=20

Hope you will like it :)

  5. Hmmm, what will 2007 bring? Hope the trance stuff will change back to something more interesting than the majority we got in 2006...

Anyway, I am looking forward to the new PhasePhour album, which will be released this spring... I have allready heard some of it, and it is definately something different. Not full on, not progressive, but maybe something between, with a really quirky touch, which I like... I think it will be released on Geomagnetic.

From my own label (Chill Tribe Records), I will bring you a new compilation (Ear Pleasure) with Robert Leiner, Kris Kylven, Blue Planet Corporation, Cosmosis, Snake Thing, Digital Mystery Tour, Kiwa, Highpersonic Whomen, Bluetech and Zen Lemonade. Also an album by Wombatmusic, better known as Kristian Thinning (Elysium), and an album by Polyploid:

    http://www.discogs.com/artist/Polyploid

+ an album by Kris Kylven...

So, there is definately things to look forward to!

    Happy new year everybody!

  6. 1. Various - Relaxed Journeys - Chill Tribe Records - September (Selfish?;) Oh yes...)

    2. Androcell - Efflorescence - Celestial Dragon - February

    3. Various - Tribal Matrix - Dakini Records - November

    4. Various - Arcana - Interchill Records - February

    5. Adham Shaikh - Collectivity- SonicTurtle - November

    6. Trentemöller

    7. Gabriel Le mar album

    etc...

For me it was the worst year of psytrance since I started buying it in 1995... Not a single really completly good psytrance album for me this year, though some tracks on the OOOD album was really good. 2006 was a good year for chill releases though....

  7. Brain massage! Chill Tribe Records in Norway is back with a third release compiled by PKS, bringing you the cream of talented downbeat/dub/ambient producers from around the world. As usual, Chill Tribe gathers several of the most sought after pioneers in the scene, this time exploring everything from deep ambient, dub to downbeat with psychedelic rock influences. 8. Ok, here comes todays negative thoughts from me:)

I'm sure you can find some good tracks if you bother to dig through millions of crap (something most people don't have the time to do...) If there are good stuff out there, most of it is drowning...

But to be honest, I haven't heard a single album released in 2006 that I would rate 5/5...

The music is changed, and I guess I have become old fashioned... So maybe I am wrong because I am living in the past? Anyway, my personal opinion is that 99% of todays psytrance releases are crap...

  9. Warning: self promotion....:)

But, anyway, maybe you a can include a track from Chill Tribe Records too:

    http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/ctr/

You have some really good music among those you mentioned there, so I'm sure you will have no problem serving a pleasent set anyway...!

Chill out is fun to play!!! You can play whatever music style you want, as long as you like the music and it is chilled... When I play, I play everything from world music to jazz (never pure psychill). At Boom, I even played reggae, Pink Floyd and traditional arabic music:)

    Have fun, and good luck!

  10. These days most compilations have got the text "compiled by .... " written on the front. How important is that too you?

It could be important to know what style the compilation is... I always find it interesting who has done the work behind a compilation, especially if I really like the compilation, I might want to check out a dj set or more compilations by the one who has compiled it...

I find it a bit silly since most of the "compilers" are unknown to me. Seems like most of them are small time djs who has had a few gigs here and there and put their name on the compilation to get more gigs.

I don't see anything wrong with that... All Dj's has to start somewhere... Paul Oakenfold put his name n his first compilations too at a time he was unknown... Also, these names you have seen might me unknown to you, but not for others. And so what if it is a bedroom dj early in his/her career...? Then it might be even more important to know the compiler, because if you like his work, you can check out what more good stuff he does in the future... I don't think it's any more silly than writing the artist names on the compilation...

Let's say you go to a party and hear a really good set by an unknown dj... You get curious about the style he is playing, and you see a cover with compiled by that dj on... Perfect reason to have the compiler cred on...:)

If the compilation was compiled by someone relatively known it puts things in a different perspective of course. Say a compilation is compiled by Simon Posford/Shulman/Boris Blenn/Nik Barber/whatever it gets my attention, but when it's someone totally unknown ... what good does it do?

I don't like this kind of warshipping.... Give all the compilers, known and unknown, a fair chance instead... They do a lot of work/often more work to make a compilation and deserve to be credited for it, just like you deserve to be credited for a track you are releasing...

  11. Latest arrivals:

The Sushi Club - Sakura (Elektrolux 2003)

    http://www.discogs.com/release/131087

Pretty easy listening chill, but nice in the background of my dinner

    GBU - Wanted (Twisted 2006)

    http://www.discogs.com/release/809347

I'm a big fan of these three talented pirates, but I have to admit I was slightly dissappointed with this album, because there are no new ideas here, just the usual full on stuff... Pretty surprising to find such an album on Twisted...

OOOD - Feee Range (Organic 2006)

    http://www.discogs.com/release/837078

The Eye Of The Beholder track totally did it for me... Psy/goa track of the year!

  12. OOOD saved my day today, when I picked up my latest order from Psyshop...

The track done with Ott: Eye Of The Beholder

...simply blew me away! I put it on repeat three times, dancing like a mad man in my apartment! Best trance track I have heard since the good old days of Goa trance... This track has an amazing vibe that just push me into dancing. I have no words to describe this vibe, it's just simply THE RIGHT THING for me. A vibe I never find in todays psytrance anymore. Something I really miss in todays psytrance. I haven't listened so much to the rest of the album, but this track really stood out... Thank you OOOD for giving me a flashback to good vibes again! I think I really needed this to light up my day here in cold, rainy Oslo...

PKS (who hasn't danced as crazy for ages...) :)
