  2. Free-Spirit Records is returns with a brilliant followup release to 'Free-Spirit Vol.1 : Brahmaputra', anouncing its debut artist album from M-Klome... M-Klome - Interruptions Release date: May 18th 2007 Matteo Mercurio, or M-Klome, of Free-Spirit Records has been making waves on a slew of great trance compilations lately, and these track releases have only served to build up the energy for his debut album, Interruptions! Over an hour's worth of twisted clubland psytrance tracks set a high standard for this year's worldwide dancefloor playlists. Despite his fledgling artist status, M-Klome's talent appeared on the global circuit with the force and energy of a supernova, and Interruptions delivers... nine heavy, groovalicious tracks spanning the spectrum of tempo and the trance genre. Ranging from the progressive to the full-on, in-your-face acidic avenues of psy-trance, M-Klome's debut album has something for every mood and time. If you haven't already, you seriously need to give this album a listen, and take a glimpse into the many futures of M-Klome's rocking trance tunes. Free-Spirit burst headlong upon the global trance scene with their maiden compilation, "Brahamaputra" in October 2006, even attracting the attention of artists like previous voted #4 in DJ Mags TOP 100 DJs, Christopher Lawrence, who already is rocking Free-Spirit tracks on his own compilation releases. Although still in the label's infancy, the lineup of artists on this smashing compilation speaks for itself... and now, already in the works is Free-Spirit's sequel compilation to "Brahamaputra", “Eupsychia”, as well as M-Klome's astounding first solo album release, and in the not too distant future, a debut rocker by Journey (aka Jay OM) himself. This label and these artists work hard to bring you albums that are guaranteed to stay fresh over many rotations and mixsets. Free-Spirit has a lot on their platter in the next few months... turn on and tune in now to their upcoming fresher-than fresh trance sounds. CLICK BELOW FOR SOUND SAMPLES 1. Hard Wired rmx 2. Immersive Technologies 3. Eve Electro 4. Light Travels 5. Out of Range 6. Into 7. Winds of Change 8. The Wrong Man 9. Deep Contact TRACK BY TRACK: Hard Wired rmx M-Klome's remix of "Hard Wired" comes in screaming, with in-your-face acid pads and a bass beat that emerges from the filtered sub-strata. Expect a full-on stormer here... the bass throws you out of your seat like a car hitting a pothole and rearranges itself constantly and consistently while the synth melodies tear jaggedly through the audioscape. A superb arpeggiated buildup adds the right amount of full-on haunting to this stellar remix. Immersive Technologies Chunky break beats and low, dirty synth bass pave the way for a sinister, malevolent arrangement. Plenty of hits and stabs make "Immersive" quite the groover! Thick and low like a lingering fog, the sounds here have virtual tendrils which pull your dancing strings and hold you in its thrall. Aptly named, this track is a great all-around piece for indoor dancefloors and out, with great, wavelike build-ups that lend to a bouncy, horsey feel. Eve Electro "Eve Electro"s masterfully manipulated pad work and acid bass and rhythms lend it to fall roundly into the heavily psychedelic category, yet is progressive enough to fit into a plethora of high-energy club land trance music. This track has a distinctly European feel to it; from the samples to the wind-up, filter-spanning leads, "Eve" has the octane to keep your serotonin levels up from top to bottom, and the tension-release moments are plentiful and very killer. Light Travels This funkadelic full-on rocker has one of the most tweaked out intros ever, and as soon as M-Klome has your mind properly spun, the bass beat kicks in and regulates. Highly manipulated sound waves streak through the audioscape like little comets travelling around spiralling orbits. This track has plenty of pretty crazy change-ups, ensuring that "Light" will never get dull, no matter how many times it ends up in your playlist. Out of Range M-Klome throws a curveball at you in his fifth track... a decidedly slower tempo makes for a pneumatic grinder of a psy-trance track which could also very easily add new levels of tweakage into a house or breakbeat music atmosphere. The synth noises seem to sway between happy and groovalicious to angry and tense with the subtle shifting of a mere few notes in the scales. Settle in for the journey because this piece takes you out to destinations unexpected. Into A dark, feral piece, "Into" seems destined to be heard in a full moon wilderness. Filtered synths rip through and fly towards the stars and utilize all dimensions of the soundscape in their travels. M-Klome cooks some nice surprises into this stew... come catchy, yet tooth-grinding melodies keep the mood low and beg to be danced to. Topped off with doses of intricate percussion and clever samplework, "Into" delivers the goods, as promised. Winds of Change As the name of this track suggests, the synths come in like a cold front of stormy acid sound, heralding an onrushing gust of beefy bass and filtered drums. Assertive, resonant leads orbit the boundaries of sound against each other like a Doppler signal, adding third-dimensional parallax to what is otherwise a nicely twisted track which throws some serious sonic shadows. The Wrong Man A complex chorus of old-school sounding square waves greet you as the door opens to this track, and by the time the bass kicks in you're already into the groove. The layers seem added too and taken away at every moment, yet there's always enough to keep the energy flowing. A full minute saga of a breakdown only amps up the energy for the second half, with a completely metamorphosed bassline serving up a much different flavour than the first half. Deep Contact Again taking the tempo down a notch, M-Klome ends his maiden album with a tweaked-out, chilled-out arrangement hallmarking tribal drums, thick, eighth note basslines and synths and sweeps which carry you on a carpet ride into the stratosphere! But don't think M-Klome will settle with just that... the layers keep coming and coming until that space between your ears is abuzz with audio electricity. 7. Panick - Lab-o-Matic Release date: May 22nd 2006 Panick, or Nick Laniado, has been rocking the Israeli trance scene for the better part of a decade, and has carved out for himself his own niche of a sound that has been described as big and juicy, funky psy grooves that make waves on the dancefloor and raises roofs in the home setting. Having been releasing top-notch tracks since the golden days of TIP and having worked with names such as DJ Goblin an s Psysex to Sub6, Domestic, and the infamous Shiva Space Technology and Crystal Matrix labels, Nick draws from a vertitable Akashic record of experience and immersion in psy-trance music and culture and his creations show it... "Lab-O-Matic" especially loses none of its sense of groove from beginning to end and is complex and meticulously intricate enough to stay fresh for umpteen rotations in the playlist. For those of you who prefer quality to quantity in their trance music, Panick's "Lab-O-Matic" is fit for you. After years of heavy involvement in the global psychedelic trance scene and countless released tracks and collaborations with some of the biggest names and labels out there, Panick's tireless creativity yields yet another bountiful harvest of some of the plumpest, juiciest trance tunes to be heard this year. The same sound is almost never heard twice and with such little repitition, as Panick puts so much into a smaller space, taking you on a virtual tour of the unknown and unfamiliar, and leaves you with joyously little time to do much other than thirst for what the next beat will bring. Featuring ten immaculately produced tracks, Panick tickles the senses with sounds and samples which seem more to have sprung straight out of intelligent thought than a synthesizer, and pulsating basslines which pump and throb to their own alien heartbeat. Delivering highly concentrated doses of psychedelic energy straight to your pleasure center by way of ecstatic ear canals. With dashes of tech-house and jazz and a heavily-ladled stew, Panick's album is scarily tangible enough for the outdoor arena yet distinctly meaty and daceable enough to darkened clubland energetics. Panick sets a new standard for himself and his genre with "Lab-O-Matic"; If you haven't ridden his vibe yet, this album is a great place to start! CLICK BELOW FOR SOUND SAMPLES 1. Menace To Society 2. Blind Sensations 3. Radioshake 4. Incsoc 5. Lab-o-Matic 6. Cronick Candy 7. Class-X 8. Cap Zion 9. Jibjab Bonus Track - Manic Miner Edit TRACK BY TRACK: Menace To Society An album of this caliber deserves a long, interesting introm and like sonar, "Menace To Society" foreshadows the dark secrets lurking in this album's depths. Luring you in with techy, happy rhythms, a rough-edged, funky bassline, and lightly filtered flanges for that cylindrical "Metal-tube" effect. By the end the synths are etching a melody dripping with acidic saliva. Blind Sensation This second track comes at you from below, and before you know it, you're hopping on a trampoline of stomping kicks and stew of beefy bass. Once-living beings hardwired to mainframes emotionlessly repeat their iterations, and that's where the musical stabs come in. "Blind Sensation" is a metaphorical "iron maiden" of trance tracks... the buzzing, resonant noises, synth hits, and buzzing fly sensations envelop you from all directions. This track has one of those sinsiter "digital organism" feelings to it, and tattoos itself on you with some of the sharpest synthesis needles that ever oscillated. Radioshake Pure dancefloor material, "Radioshake" rolls in like a thick fog and brews up a tempest of layered synth leads and serrated trance riffs without a hint of cheese. It has a tittilatingly sadistic slant that should slake the thirst of those who like their trance techy and dark. The breakdowns are appropriately hypnotic here and provide a great transitive element... there are multiple stages of energy here. Incsoc "Incsoc" lets you in easy enough, not out again... at least, not until it's done with you. No two loops here sound at all the same here, there's enough element, progression, and change here to make each measure seem like a mini-track in itself. The hits and stabs are jazzy and disco-sounding, and the leads glide enough to make spirals and loops for the brain to ride on during the melody. With a hint of psychedelic cartooniness a dash of funk and a splash of Buck Rogers retro sci-fi flair, this piece keeps it humorous and housey, and blends together nicely with the darker hyperintelligence of the previous tracks. Lab-O-Matic Starting off on a minimal, industrial tip, the title track of this albumrolls in on reverbed, melodic synth droplets. A thick, funky bass provides the substrata for atmospheres of lush, blooming pads, and all the while newly twisted percussion sounds add complexity to the beat. Pitter-patters of little goblin feet can be heard, crisscrossing from left to right at the speed of sound. The drum noises and riffs do most of the work and the harder synth leads don't come into play until later, making for a nicely relaxing, yet motivating track, with plenty of room for nice long mixes in the sound. Its finished off with sick, experimental sounds towards the end, and while none of the sounds are in your face, this track still stalks you closely. Cronick Candy Mantric vocoded messages, gliding synth filters, and edgy, dissonant melodies, makes this track fit for even the haziest of heads with squishy, malevolent loops of thick synth layers and an evolving bassline geared for optimum headnod inspiration. The notes and accents are painstakingly placed, and the percussive elements have a homegrown quality to them... indeed, this track feels as if it were pulled and quantized out of random, fleeting everyday sounds from the nostalgia of childhood until just a few moments ago. Class - X One of Panick's greatest talents in his production is his ability to combine wet, unnaturally organic sound bits with supremely digital, futuristically Eastern synth leads and pads to create conflicting, questionable moods perfect for describing the plight of robotic Pinocchios, and it really shows in this one. The melodies here seem to ride the spaces between notes amidst atonal backdrops of meditative pads and a bassbeat that seems powered by pistons. this track has all of the twistings and turnings of a good tech-psytrance track without being too overdone. Cap Zion Panick doesn't waste any time getting this track started with a sixteenth-note hopping bass attached to kicks and a high-hat array that sounds more like crickets in an empty room being wrung through a high resonant filter. Filled with repeating noise layers that build up on each other as time progresses, you focus on that, electronic phantoms flit undetected in and out of the sound spectrum. The drums and notes are all put together nicely to create an up-and-down alternating current feel which is perfect for midnight dancefloor antics. Jibjab The first near-minute of "Jibjab" sounds like the fleshy chewings of some huge grub moving about indise corridors of ancient alien spacecraft, then the bass kicks in and all of a sudden you sense you're moving. There are sounds in here that are ambiguously either drum or synth and are saw-toothed in their progression. By about three minutes, however, you'll find yourself aboard a psychedelic carousel of buzzy synth leads. The leads in these tracks deliver with the force and attitude of a guitar rocker with a loss of none of the funky jazz in its conversion into the digital realm. Manic Miner Edit An electric, alien bayou of chirps, out-of-this-world birdsong and synthesized insects that seem menacing enough to gobble you whole. Then the track leads into a cacophany of downward-spiralling sirens and echoed riffs which bounce themselves first at you then away. There's some great outdoor energy in this one... sounds and layers come at you harder and more twisted than before... the breakdowns only end up teasing you for explosive audio releases. 8. Mood Deluxe - The Tangent Universe Release date: June 2006 The Tangent Universe is a super-plex hybrid of an album; a work created with gleeful disregard to musical boundaries and a thoroughly Machiavellian approach to composition. Described as ‘psychedelic breaks/Tripstep’, ‘The Tangent Universe’ is that and a whole lot more. As an album, it captures and delivers what a new generation of dancefloor stompers are looking for; Combining deep trancey elements and hard hitting breaks with more delicate psychedelic meanderings, Cameron has created a style, that although describable in terms of what’s out there, is it’s own entity and is as fresh on the ears as I’m sure it will be on the dance floor this summer. In quantum mechanics a ‘tangent universe’ is an offshoot of an existing universe that grows from the energy of the primary universe and in formation becomes a separate universe in its own right… the appearance of a tangent universe has many implications however primarily and positively it offers change, revolution and reflection on the status quo… in musical terms this album does the same. A talented freelance programmer and mastering engineer, Cameron is part of a new wave of artist/DJ’s producing psychedelic dance and dub music under a number of different guises. Alongside his solo and collaborative projects he has also racked up a lot of behind the scenes credits working with some of the biggest names in the mainstream American dance music community. The extent of Cameron’s diverse musical experience is very much in evidence in this work, with elements from all quarters combining to create ‘The Tangent Universe’. From commercial clubland to the alternative festival fields there’re hints of it all in there… Uncompromising intro’s and sharp exits … head tweaking frequencies, big growling bass lines and solid kicks.. this is high octane music for the boys (that is sure to engage the ladies too!) © Wordsmith, April 2006 CLICK BELOW FOR SOUND SAMPLES 1. Causal Loop (Mood Deluxe Intro Edit) 2. Episode 3. Closer 4. Something Like Remember 5. Phantom Technology 6. The Tangent Universe 7. Zeitgeist (Naked Weapon Mix) 8. The Living Receiver 9. Wrong Way 10. Lucid Juice 11. Amber TRACK BY TRACK: Causal Loop (Mood Deluxe edit) Swift rhythmic scratching and deep squelchy bass create a strong intro over which male and female vocals intertwine the delivery of their message… in this 2 and a half minute intro we are given a flavour and colour of what’s to come.. a deep urban vibe with plenty of attitude, a message and a dose of psychedelic seasoning… bring it on! Episode An uncompromising start… so fasten your seatbelt. The vibe of this track is solid and deep with a hint of spaceyness… mid-tempo breaks eased in with expansive pads and seasoned with strong club-vibe vocals… great textured bass action is woven with moog like synths and a driving kick… the overall effect created is that of a mid tempo chiller that has been hijacked by a bigger badder animal! Closer A medley of synths open this track, smartly followed by a pacey rhythm and some pretty squelchy bass! Bass frequencies are dark and gritty while the synths and pads are clean and spacious… rhythms are simple as is indeed the formation of the track… but it sounds deceptively fuller and more complex… the reprise is warm and driven – spaceship cruiser style but with a dirty big diesel engine! Something like remember Big intro… inter-woven synths build and crescendo to the entrance of another deep squelchy bass. Distorting synths and the bassline of a snoring bear weave in and out of vocal snippets that add a feminine touch to an otherwise pretty masculine sound.. A gentle spacious breakdown decorated with subtle electronic manipulations leads back into a beefy electro-break groove with a clubby vibe… Phantom Technology A swarm of electro-insects open this track… frequencies are raised and a wide open space is created… into which is stamped another solid uncompromising bassy break… its simple and slow build, interwoven with manipulated vocal snippets, hypnotically leads to synth sequences that have all the attitude of rock guitar… breakdowns highlight flavours from the trance floor… all of which is wrapped up and tidily delivered as high speed travelling trance-breaks.. hypnotic and well constructed.. The Tangent Universe This track opens up at a good pace… drum… and bass… but not as you know it! An intricate build of rhythm using both the drums and the synth sequences make for a powerful psychedelic ‘break n bass’ creation. Pads and synth passages open up the track giving the head space to roam while vocal samples from cult film Donnie Darko give a hint of the dimension of the tangent universe … Zeitgeist (Naked Weapon mix) Trance ‘a la mood deluxe’ is the order of the day here… driving rythms and a juicy bass are skilfully built upon with the rise and fall of synth sequences, additional drum fills and chopped and distorted vocals. Zeitgeist is a strong 4/4 number which despite its trance floor focus and horizontal drive still manages to retain something melodic in its progression. At around 7 and a half minutes it’s shorter than expected for a trance track and refreshingly so… it arrives strongly, delivers its payload and exits without indulgence! The zeitgeist perhaps? The Living Receiver Oh yeah! juicy breaks lead you into more havin’it dance floor action -‘Mood Deluxe style’. This is a head ticklin’, rump rockin’ track with a sophisticated rhythm build; break beat trance that’ll get even the most floor-shy out there shaking their bits! It’s crunchy and gritty with a great progression and not a hint of monotony. Vocal samples are used sparingly and well and as in ‘zeitgeist’ there is apparent but not over-riding melodic passages which contribute to a rich complete sound.. bring on the summer festivals.. I want to hear this on an 80k rig! Wrong way The intergalactic ice-cream van is heading your way and so is a big fat cerebral adventure on bass! This is a 4/4 stomper of psychoactive proportions… themes and sequences are built up, introduced and melded in, the production is exact and the journey is at pace.. Hard, dry and relentless but engaging and coloured with its own brand of subtlety! Lucid Juice Eerie opening space.. some sort of inter-galactic construction going on… ah.. and there’s that growling bass and clean breaks vibe again … the pace picks up and the mood is dark… this is music for inter-planetary car chasing! Sound bending manipulations keep the head busy while well constructed rhythm sequences challenge your feet to listen. Again trancey elements are rewired into an entirely more rhythmic adventure in breaks… as the themes are built and developed there is a subtle evolution… same car chase, same high performance vehicle… different race tracks! Amber Atmospheric pads and an accelerating synth sequence create anticipation in the opening of this track… a mid-tempo trance groove weaves its way through a breaksy rhythm with space and colour created by passing synths. Its nether regions are deep and growling, the bass is pulsing and the simplicity of the pads and synth sequence balance it all out well… the final breakdown is delicate and spacious. A classy finale. NEWS & REVIEWS: “Mood Deluxe has taken the best threads and ingredients from so many genres and styles and has woven a tapestry which could very well be the foreshadowing of a new generation of electronic music sound to come... The Tangent Universe is amazing, imaginative and way ahead of its time. Undoubtedly this album will be the future influence of DJs and producers the world over, from all walks and genres of EDM life, bounding towards a utopian ideal where musical styles are not disparate, and there is no such thing as Genre... only MUSIC, and of all the albums the reviewer has done this year, "The Tangent Universe" is indeed MUSIC at its finest!” 5/5 Axis Mundi – Scene Networks / Mushroom Magazine "Rock solid breaks overlaid with ruff and tuff basslines, blend somehow seamlessly with proper psychedelic melodies and electronic effectage to prove that it doesn't have to be 4 to the floor to be pounding. My favourite alternative, and so lushly non-generic..." Chris Organic - Organic Records "..a breath of fresh air, a bridge between a myriad of dancefloor flavaz!.solid stuff!!" 9. Slackbaba - and the beat goes om Release date: June 2006 “And the beat goes om” is a work of strong catchy basslines, crisp compressed beats and colourful cyber-squelch! Its mix of styles and influences pays tribute a wide angle slice of musical genres that have been aired, on the groovy side of mid-tempo, over the last few years. In this, his debut album, Jonathan Smith (the Slack Baba himself) introduces the un-initiated to his version of events… a melting pot of fluid grooves and swirling psychedelic melodies, a touch of the ethnic and some very respectable bass frequency action. As one of a new generation of British psychedelic artists, Jonathan’s individual style has produced some memorable live sets; turning down tempo audiences into full tribal stompers at last years Glade and Glastonbury festivals and delivering his cross-boundary hybrid grooves with impunity. His music draws the listener through a labyrinth of pulsing rhythms and mind-bending sonic states, demonstrating his skills in sound manipulation and delivering a new take on psychedelic electronica. Expect to hear a lot of this album this summer and a lot more from ‘Slack Baba’ in the future. This is a strong debut album that will not only further confirm Jonathan as one of Liquid Records ‘groovers and shakers’, but should also establish his place in the CD cases of DJ’s and punters alike both in the UK and internationally. © Wordsmith, April 2006 CLICK BELOW FOR SOUND SAMPLES 1. A Drop in the Ocean 2. Drink More Tea 3. Sea of Green 4. Long Sunny Daze 5. The Golden Apple 6. Metatron’s Sugar Cube 7. And the beat goes om 8. Fruit of Mahoot TRACK BY TRACK: A drop in the ocean Liquid metallic synths stretch out lazily but steadily creating a fluid space for a crisp dubby groove. Metallic electro-synth melodic themes create punctuation and a bendy rounded sound. Twangy and bouncy contrasts with floaty and psychedelic. Vocal samples hint of other dimensions. The bass is tidy and defining. Synth sequences build and fade.. the tide comes in the tide goes out. The waves roll in the sea goes calm… the drop empties in the ocean and the ocean empties into the drop. Drink more tea Flutes and the sounds of an electro-jungle create the environment, opening the space and preparing the way for the entry of a deep suggestive bass line. Bass takes centre stage and the electro-jungle decorates over the top. Chopped up distorted vocals whisper in and out creating a busy psychoactive space over the simplicity of the grounded bass. Synth melody lines create shape and a journeying mood as they develop and become more elaborately interwoven … Sea of green Eastern flavoured strings echo out an intro which is swiftly underpinned by a gentle breaksy heart-beat of a rhythm. Strings turn into a stretched out spacey pad progression and the horizon is extended …the small field becomes a sea of green. Striding through this sea comes the bass… a confident dubby stroll of a bassline which weaves elegantly in and around the warm purr of the strings… an offbeat synth skank gives groove and added reggae flavour … all the while the pads ebb and flow in and out of melodic synth sequences as the track builds in complexity… then slides away… Long sunny daze Spacey intro, mysterious and deep… the gentle build of rhythmic sequence fills out a subtly busy sonic soundscape. Bass and synths confirm a reggae flavour with gentle timbale providing added seasoning. Extra dimension is created by the contrast of a deep slow pad progression moving along under an up-beat & cheeky arpeggio synth melody …this one, as the title suggests, has summer in mind… subtle psychedelic meanderings of the dubby variety. This track manages to be spaced out, laid back and upbeat all at the same time.. as a perfect sunny day should be! The golden apple A tribute to the illuminatus trilogy? Yes.. there certainly is more to reality… A distorted strings intro and a slow breaksy beat leads into a well paced dubby bassline. An electro vocoder sounding sequence mixes it up with ripples of tabla creating a squelchy robo-groove that kicks along above the bass and a compact syncopated kick. Filtered strings fill up the mid section – both extended and chopped - leading into a dissolving breakdown which creates space and a change of ambience… The return of the electro-squelch is interspersed with the flavour of chopped up strings.. themes are built and developed and then they’re gone… the track exits in a contemplative space. Metatron’s sugar cube Fizzing and swooshing give way to an eastern themed synth sequence underpinned with generous bass drops. then enter the bass groove, solid and breaksy. The head’s kept busy with distorting synth sequences while the lower regions are led grooving by a solid bass theme wrapped tightly around a good kick – one which sounds set to stick in the ears of dance floor groovers all over this summer! More of that please. And the beat goes om… A slow build of Indian vocals with the tone and intensity of a devotional chant woven around a synth theme and the drones of saranjy pour you like treacle into the beginning of this track. The spaced punctuation of a compressed kick and percussive echoes create anticipation in the build that leads to the entry of a loping bass line groove … the vocal verse repeats and with each repetition slowly builds… synth sequences lead you down paths interspersed with ‘electro-scratching’ and echoed sitar fills, while slow bass drops punctuate and ground the swirling meanderings of filtered vocals and synth Fruit of Mahoot The subtle twang of a tampura drones under the slicing sound of something being sharpened... The beat kicks in solid and steady and gentle off-beat synth echoes are balanced in their lightness. The kick and the bass enforce one another to create the drive which is syncopated and groovy… electronic wild-life chatters and chirps, buzzes and clicks above ripples of percussion (tabla) creating an intricate electro-organic frosting on the lower frequencies. A spacious mid-section brings out the rippling rhythms of the tabla while distorted vocals are woven into the mix to become part of the instrumentation. The synths return augmented and more melodious, the mix fills out and builds before gently dissolving as the track echoes away. NEWS & REVIEWS: “Liquid Records' downtempo department has been busy over the past year cooking up some of the frostiest grooves, and Slackbaba's latest release, "And The Beat Goes Om", is undoubtedly one of the plumpest fruits of their labor. Serving up a healthy slice of dubtempo with roots and branches drawing from, and extending into, a myriad of musical directions, Slackbaba's beats are as abstract as a Picasso piece seen through a kaleidoscope, and the production quality is top-notch as well. Don't think you'll be sleeping through this one... this album spans the spectrum of speeds and there is a veritable traffic jam of colliding sounds coming at you from every which way... this music is that busy! “ Axis Mundi – Scene Networks "Break beats and dubby rhythms drive you safely into a deep relaxation. Rasta ragga elements and atmospheric sounds are arranged in a such a way that he has created a true masterpiece of relaxed electronic music. For me, some of the sounds feel like they're directly from the stars and I would say this album fits totally into my definition of shpongled music. Colorful, dreaming, melodic, somewhere between dub and drum & bass it will get the highest recommendations from the chillout scene." Liese - Mushroom Magazine "There's nothing slack about this baba, his beats slap straight to the om, with a nice touch of dubs, breaks, and smooth electronic sound manipulations to keep your synapses stimulated as the journey unfolds." 11. DMMT Africa Bombastic Freefall (South Africa) I’ve only just become aware of this one but – in two words - bloody hell. Two more words: bloody HELL! Fluidly solid psychedelic trance, with depth and excitement, great sounds and a couple of upbeat cover versions quietly thrown in. First Drag has such a nice sound to it, the sort of sound you want to immerse yourself in completely, like a supermodel’s thighs. There’s a strong vibe of a tight energy busting at its own seams, making for a nicely hypnotic little boogie. Rock n’ Roll is a belter – there’s an incredible little drag on the end of the bassline that, along with plenty of deep reverb, gives an extra dimension. There’s fantastically tight escalation, with interesting noises, and plenty of changes – all without going too full-power-screech. And it fucking works. As does Black Pearl, a finer example of semi-dark psytrance I am hard-pressed to name. Once again the sounds are great (non-derivative, exciting, and tightly-produced), and once again there’s a rare magnetism in the music that keeps you focussed. Dazed And Confused features a couple of (frankly rather overdue) samples from the Led Zep tune of the same name: erring on the right side of cheese as it does so. It’s a gnarly, fast-paced but of cheeky psytranceadelica, not too manic or parvati-bothering. Impressive and cheekily quirky, with more snippets of songs than you can possibly keep count of. Real Men Don’t Dance sees things take a turn for the darker, with that scratchy SA sound coming out of the forests to chase you. It’s tightly done, with a very smooth energy making it sound organic rather than forced, with a final run that’ll have you creaming your pants (or your money back). As you may expect from the track title, Jacob’s Ladder pops another dose into your cup of tea and makes things more interesting and colourful still – the sounds here are nothing short of breathtaking, and the energy is just out of this world. You would be kidding yourself if you said that Break On Through, complete with cheeky Jim Morrison samples used to superlative effect, was the best track on the album – but it’s jolly good fun. Passion, on the other hand, is downright f*ing good music. Sounding like it could be the ‘guitar track to end all guitar tracks’ ™, it chucks I a classical music break, throws in loads of effects, flirts with a cheesy bassline before correcting the balance with a shitkicking middle run. No Point Of Return takes the foot off the pedal a little, with more space in the music and a bubbly psychedelia winning over the frenetic rhythm section. Africa Bombastic sounds a little like Juno’s Jungle High remixed by Azax & Toxic, with some more cheeky samples that are simply fucking delicious. Finally, 21 Grams closes the album in a seriously loud stylee – mentalist, full-throttle psychedelic trance. Phew. At the end of the day, this is a serious album. It’s interesting, it’s exciting and it takes a good few listens before its depth really tarts to grow on you. Superlative stuff. 9 Review by Damion @ Psyreviews Dot Com
  12. DMMT - Africa Bombastic OUT NOW !! After two years of fine-tuning their sound at all the top psy-trance events in Cape Town, South Africa, performing live for every large promoter around the country, DMMT emerges with their debut release “Africa Bombastic” in November of 2005. Representative of their signature blend of full-on, morning, and progressive trance this duo have been bringing to the parties, "Africa Bombastic" pulls influence from many electronic music genres and is sure to please music fans from all over. They may be a new name on the international trance scene, but the members behind DMMT are both experienced sonic manipulators. Dave Mac is one of South Africa’s most experienced and busiest dj’s having rocked SA dance-floors since 1997. Over the last 8 years in South Africa he has co-hosted Alien Safari events, Prism New Year events and the “SA Total Solar Eclipse” with Etnicanet and Vortex. He also founded the first psy-trance show on local dance radio station, Mutha FM. Martin (Dj Bones) Treurnich is a seasoned guitarist, sound engineer and a dj who has dabbled in drum ‘n bass and house before being sucked into the infectious grooves of psy-trance. Together as DMMT they offer a fully layered soundscape of four to the floor psychedelic trance delivered with a dash of sleaze and a firm touch of craziness, all underpinned by a solid groove and genuine musicality. Already DJs are rotating these tracks at big festivals such as Voov 2005 and Glade, driving crowds at both venues ballistic, and making appearances on notorious compilations such as the GOA series, all profound testimonials to the quality of music put forth by these two geniuses. As Dave Mac puts it, and it couldn't be said better... their sound is "dancefloor-friendly, and should rock your living room too. Quite full-on, yet bouncy and sexy; the girls seem to like it!" Indeed, DMMT is “feel-good” psychedelic trance guaranteed to elevate the mind and the body wiggling even when you think you don't have a wiggle left in you, and is certifiably 100% free of “cheese"! Their first release is the debut album “Africa Bombastic” by DMMT, who have spent the last year fine-tuning their sound and have performed for every major promoter in South Africa over the last twelve months. DMMT may appear newcomers on the global trance scene, but Dave Mac & Martin Treurnich are both seasoned sonic manipulators. Dave is one of South Africa’s most experienced dj’s and Martin a busy session guitarist and sound engineer. Together as DMMT they offer an album jam-packed (78 mins of music) with massive tunes that seem to always ignite that “chaos button” on dance-floors. It’s high energy dance music, but it’s not just beats for dj’s. “Africa Bombastic” is a fully layered soundscape of four to the floor psychedelic trance delivered with a dash of sleaze and a firm touch of craziness, all underpinned by a solid groove and genuine musicality. News & Interviews If you have been caught in the thick of it on a Cape Town trance floor in the last year then there's a very good chance you have worked up sweat to a DMMT live set. Creating some seriously groovy and tripped out sounds the freaky minds of DMMT (also known as Dave Mac and DJ Bones) have clearly been stuck deep in the studio polishing up their biggest tunes all winter. Their collection of 11 big bottomed stormers screams PARTY all the way, and just in time for the crazy season. Funky and powerful basslines fuse neatly with deeply tripped out atmospheres setting the stage for some sampledelic mayhem entertaining up front. Clips from some classic rock tracks bounce between snarly acid riffs and some of their own guitararama too. Clearly focused on developing their own sound, DMMT is a mix of full-on power meeting progressive groovyness with a definite morning/sunrise feel, a sure-fire winner in my book! A mighty fine debut release for them and for the new label....... 4/5 Review by Regan @ Nano Records We are looking for quality promoters and production crews worldwide to host DMMT at their events, contact feel free to contact bpmmag1@eject.co.za / BPM Magazine to discuss whats on offer. 15. S>RANGE – “Another Theory – The Remixes” Ltd 12” White Vinyl Release Date 30th January, 2006 S>RANGE - “Another Theory – The Remixes” CD Single Release Date 6th February, 2006 CD Single Tracklisting: 1. Another Theory - (Chromosome Remix) 2. Another Theory - (Big Deal Remix) 3. Stand By - (Ultra Violet Mix) 4. Spaced Out - (Forever Mix) 5. Technical Support - (Back Up Mix) 6. Another Theory - (Ambient Mix) Ltd 12” Vinyl Tracklisting: 1. Another Theory - (Chromosome Remix) 2. Another Theory - (Big Deal Remix) 3. Stand By - (Ultra Violet Mix) 4. Welcome To Paradise - (HON Circle Mix) Anthony Sillfors returns with a full on psychedelic dance floor blaster! This is by far his best work to date! Yet another new sound aimed at the full on electric vibe of morning trance, tender and melodic but full on hard and slamming. Another Theory – The Remixes is a small taste of the full S>Range studio album to be released in early 2006. Six exclusive mixes in this Special Limited Edition CD Single. This is a new sound of psytrance while it still maintains the spectacular production standard S>Range is renowned for. S>Range has always delivered some of the most original and inspiring sounds, production and psychedelic textures in his trance and this is no exception. It has been a while since his first hit debut '2001’ and later ‘Space’ in 2003. But the wait has been worth it, and part 3 of his story continues. The first track on the Single is a remix by Swedish funky trancer Chromosome, a lighter and softer psy groove but very dramatic. In contrast the Big Deal remix (collaboration project between S>Range and Tranan of Logic Bomb) reaches into the more deep and twisted sounds of the full on trance. Stand By, from the new album is remixed here in a new light, offering a funky and clever new psychedelic groove, real out of control trance floor madness. The classic Spirit Zone track Spaced Out All Day is given another breath of life with this new remix recreating this floor filler in the new model style. Technical Support is also remixed in a different light, offering another glimpse into the artists mind and further ideas. Also a rare Ambient Mix is revealed, a side to S>Range not often heard but exploring the deep realms of his creativity in a very successful and mature manor. This new S>Range sound is put best in the review from Mushroom Magazine … "a new genre of psytrance" Anthony has become an internationally respected and recognized artist. Furthermore, he is now a part of the artists relationship program from Steinberg Technology AB. He is now based in Gothenburg and is belting out tunes in a furious tempo from D.O.S Mission Control Centre. One of Sweden's top producers, S>Range has released 2 albums and featured on more then 70 releases that sold nearly half a million records worldwide, this makes him one of the most successful Trance acts in the scene. For example in Brazil, Japan, Israel, Mexico and Australia, he has reached the pinnacle of attention and gratitude. With his 3rd upcoming album 'Another Theory', Anthony continues in his unique style of uplifting party tunes, but with a more full-on twist. He blends full-on psychedelic with the more traditional elements of trance. He has continued to develop his skills for a crispier and cleaner production, combining heavy string pads with pumping bass lines and packing the tracks with samples from outer space. According to Anthony, the music is best described as "a sci-fi sound effects orientated morning trance." We just call it banging trance with nice harmonies and a huge soundscape For more information on S>Range such as track samples, a full bio, releases, and pics… please see Anthonys artist page at Triskele Management NEWS & COMMENTS: “His sound elements are truly psychedelic, sharp, grooves are pumping and energetic, melodies intense and trippy, his breaks beautiful. You can call it real morning full on, but it‘s like a new genre of psy trance.” Mushroom Magazine "Another Theory" is one of the more upbeat, synth-heavy Swedish trance collections coming out lately and much more melodic than much of the more monotonic, sample-rich, staccato sounds to be heard nowadays. This, by one of Liquid's featured veteran artists should find its way into clubland and morning trance sets across Europe and overseas.” Axis Mundi / Scene Networks "With the "Another Theory – The Remixes" EP we get a mouth-watering taste of what to expect on the upcoming S>Range album. The best tracks of the album have been wrestled, configured and tweaked… Leaving us with a bunch of remixes ranging from deep, sweaty progressive trance to uplifting, joyous morning tunes + of course a downbeat track to dull the senses… A total of six delicious cuts delivering the ever sought-after value for money… Sweet!" Death Posture Mushroom Magazine has just done a 2 page interview with Anthony in the December International issue.
