I think XP64 should be out by the 1st half of next year. Would do you good to invest in an AMD64. They're very powerful. They have quite a few chips sent back to them however while intel have almost none. The new Western Digital drives are incredibly quiet. Anything over 120gig. I got a 160gig WD the other day and can't hear a thing from it. Much quiter than my 160gig Maxtor SATA's.
Spindrift is very right about your Mobo - it can make a huuuuge difference what motherboard you pick. You might find windows constantly crashing without reason if you buy a cheaper motherboard like an asrock. I like to assemble machines myself so I know I'm putting in quality parts. It pays off, but you have to be experienced with hardware to do it. I'm packing an ASUS but would also go with an Abit. I think they're the same company actually.
Also - you'll need some kind of soundcard. Look at the Audigy range again, the platinum versions are great for sound production at amateur/novice level.

I don't know the ASrock mobo and would not go for it myself.
ASUS boards is generally considered best for audio machines. ABIT would be my second choice.
And I would go for AMD 64 instead with an nForce chipset.
WD disks is noisy, seagate barracuda is much more quiet and hence better for an audio machine.
"branded" RAM don't say much, and I would expect very cheap brand RAM with that as the specification.
Power supply is important but not mentioned in the spec.
Preferably you should have minimum 350w and a reputable brand.
It looks to me like it a machine built for high spec and cheap price rather than a quality system.
In my experience you'll be better off spending the same amount on a machine with 521Mb of quality RAM, maybe a 2.5Ghz CPU and a quality mobo and PSU.
Cool cool, but whats wrong with the P4 chip?

Wooooooow!!!!!!!!!
Wish i had a camera when i was home, looks like a Alien Safari in Summer, or Vortex!
-
Yeah Timecode rock!!!
Went to their first party ever held a couple of years ago in a abandoned warehouse, even then the tunes were as they say, Twisted, Dark, and Thumping back then
Artifakt and Rasmataz(One dude from Hydrophonic) were the pioneers of psytrance in SA!!!
-
wish i could but im low on dough, going to Sonica in Aug instead, hehe
check the site: http://www.sonica2005.com
going to be a great one!!!!!!!!
-
if you want to go with a lap top you could do worst than check out this site.
http://www.nusystems.co.uk/buy.asp?categor...io_Laptops&b=11
You get to select the soundcard you want and all that stuff but just watch the price go up as you do. I would recomend you get a Desktop for the production and then a Laptop for giging some time later. If your going to get a studio together in time it wont matter if it moblie or not cus it wont be. PC big and heavy but more powerful and cheaper than a lap top.
yeah thats true,
But if i go for a laptop, not for its make, but its processor, like a P4/AMD, and invest in a good soundcard, surely that will be good for now...
Cause the thing is im needing something mobile, while im still travelling, etc.
Maybe when i get home, ill invest in a good desktop.
What you think?
-
LOL, yeah they were
But that was a good one though.
I dont mind going to indoor here in London, cause you really got no choice, and i like to see as many bands as i can, their stage peformance, the way they interact with their equipment, etc...
You know where im gettin with this???
But i do miss the cape town outdoors
-
Isnt Japan surpose to be holding one of the biggest parties annually?
What about the Vision Quest?
-
yeah its definately true, miss that feeling that you can go wonder off trippin ur ass off, having a sleep, havin a stomp, etc!
All i can say is the first thing i do when i get home, is go to one it will be so GREAT!!
BUT to keep myself true to passion, psytrance i still have a good time at the indoors in London, purely cause of the acts they bring here.
-
I personally think that Astrix's Album Artcore is a Masterpiece, and the cover in my opnion goes well the content, dreamy melodic full on psy
But hey its my opnion
-
yeah SA represent!!!
-
yeah, the summer season is wicked indeed..! Really miss the real outdoor parties , as im in London.
But i still keep it real by going to as many parties here, and seeing all the big names in trance every 2/3weeks i would say
How the indoors in Cape Town been last year, the last indoor i went to back home was when Astrix played at Culomborg Warehouse, that was a great one!
Cheers,
Psychocell

When you start gettin deep into Reason and addin more and more sounds, especially in Reason 3.0. Make sure you have a nice sound card and a fairly highend processor, then ul be sailing. I suggest minimum 2.0ghz for ur proccesor and for ur soundcard, maybe a Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS. or just look at some of the soundcards from the Creative Labs line.
So it doesnt matter which particular one i get, as long as it has at least 2GHz processor speed, and go for a decent Sound Card, like the one you mentioned.
Well thanks alot ppl, for the input.
If anyone has anything to share, Feel free please!
-
yeah the reviews for Reason3 sound convincing, hopefully will be getting it soon and SX3.
ppl, i was wondering i mentioned that im trying to get a notebook to work on...
Now does anyone know of any particular models i should be looking at, trying to go cheap
If you could include the Brand Models and the Specs of those, so i can take a look that would be great!
Irieness!
