  1. Until a year or two ago, at least... now, apart from Suntrip, I can't count 5 belgian organisations booking new goa acts any longer (this used to be totally different!)... :(

    Yes. I'm talking about 2005-2011.

  2. Mars, You wrote quite serious post, like the term 'neogoa' was some kind of disease or stigmata and we should cure it or at least be ashame of it.

What are you on? I neither meant, nor wrote anything like that !

  3. For me it is all goa-trance too, I never use the words new/old school when I play or write about it :) It's all goa-trance, some with more modern production :P

    +1

If you look at Isratrance, the "neogoa" phrase was first used on April 3rd 2004. Back then only Kagdila was still releasing Goatrance. The term has been very scarcely used on Isratrance since (like 4 or 5 times in 10 years).

If you look on the Psynews database, the term "neogoa" appeared first on June 13th 2005 here and the guys who used it the most are (by far) Cosmogenesis (ex-Metapsychic Records), The Journey Man Project (some guy in Goa if I remember correctly), one memeber of Aerosis, and Lost Buddha (also ex-Metapsychic). There's 950 posts with the phrase over 10 years !!!

So it looks like the Metapsychic Records guys took a big part in making the term broadly used, followed by some individuals that were involved in the movement itself. I'm not surprised it's them, because I knew for sure it wasn't Suntrip.

After that I remember hearing it a lot in Belgium where people have always stayed very informed on Goa music and kept inviting Goa acts...and it spread more like that.

  4. that article is nearly a year old...i dont understand whats the deal with psytrance... its a pleasure to ears and i find it difficult to digest that this genre is not as popular as before... i guess there's not much promotion or perhaps marketing in the right direction... how many new listeners is psy getting these days?? not many i guess...

Maybe there's just too much crap released these days and people are deceived.
  5. Please be patient, we're scrambling to finish it and release it somewhere in the beginning of may.

At this moment it's being mastered and I'm trying to finish the cover before the 14th, the day we send to the press.

It's going to celebrate our 10th anniversary and you will find several of our core artists entertaining you over...3 CDs!

  6. I agree with you on the fact the music shoudl breathe. Three comments though:

    1) Those labels who give already mastered tracks to a mastering studio have no idea what they're doing. This is so wrong. Any serious mastering guy will be unable to do anything out of a track that has already been limited or compressed or mastered. He will even refuse them because HE would be accused of doing a bad work whereas he would have just done what he could. I didn't even think this happened as you're suggesting. If it does, then such label managers must be shot in the head (twice).

    2) 95% of the DIY masterings are just plain awful. Neogoa producers tend to put the melodies too much in front and the track sounds unbalanced. We get hundreds of promos per year and there's strictly no doubt about it.

    3) The "dynamics" discussion has been all the rage in Belgium for some time, and everytime I'm shown a waveform graph with some comments about dynamics I interpret it as an attempt from the person to show how much knowledgeable he thinks he is. Such endless discussions leave me cold. I'm not targetting you here as your post is not giving any example.

I'm just saying: leave the plumbery to the plumber. Hire a good mastering guy. Keeping in mind his price may be unrelated to his competence. And if he can't adapt to the style of music, then change engineers!
