im not into psy anymore, really, i listen to some prog psy, but mostly prog house and electro/minimal/techno, and thats what im trying to mix. and those things dont get released on cd at all, so im thinking of mixing real vynil with computer files on final scratch vynil, plus i love the feel and handling of vynil, and i already have a "normal" setup with 1210s plus almost a thousand old vynils.
but good to hear that it works for scratching, vynilabusing hip-hoppers, then it will easily work for what im trying to do.
Then I seriously suggest you get it bro!

It is the ULTIMATE tool for Hip-hop! Yes, you need two turntables!
It is fuckin awesome! Basically it allows you to take soundclips off your pc and scratch using the turntables as your interface. Awesome for dj sets and live performances. I haven't used it but worked with a crew who did about a year ago. They did a live show where they sampled the MC live and scratched his words a few seconds later!
if you are fully into mixing Hip-Hop/ Breakbeat then go for it!
if you want to mix psy get cdj's!

you could also automate the "PITCH WHEEL" on your synth. play around with the settings for the pitch wheel and you can get a steeper or more gradual "climb".

Nowadays I use Cubase with Z3ta as my bass synth. Before I got pretty good bass out of Reason.
IMHO, any bass synth will do on any program as long as you got the right EQ'ing going on, as well as "punchy" compression. Hardware compression will also give you a better sound than software compression imho. You should read a tutorial on compression for more info on this
In Reason I used to make my bass like this:
1. take the Subtractor with the default patch.
2. Make 1 waveform a Triangle ( or Square ), the other a Sine. The Sine waveform gives you that deep "sub" sound, whereas the Triangle or others will provide a little definition to your bassnotes.
3. Play with the envelope settings until you get a short note. Ie. No Sustain! ( If you have a simple oom-pah oom-pah bassline then sustain is good! You will see when you try it! )
4. Add noise on the subtractor. Just a little for some texture!
5. Connect EQ. Cut the tops off. Roll off at 80/90Hz and boost the low mids ( or however you want your eq!)
6. Add a Scream4 with TAPE DISTORTION. This really beefs up the sound
. Bear in mind you can do an EQ here as well!7. Add compressor with appropriate settings!
8. Voila!

click Pioneer is the only way to go. Ignore the rest...seriously! Pioneer is normally the standard gear at parties so it's good to get your head around these babies!
I just got this mixer and it is amazing
I had a Numark back home which I had to leave so my babe bought me this one for my birthday! 
You can even set the curve on the crossfader! Actually hard to tell you just how awesome it is.... you gotta try it! The nobs and slider are so smooth and really sensitive. Plus there is an extra "tap" function on the killswitches instead of just the usual on/off. The bpm counter is useless( 1-2 bpm out! ), but who needs it anyway?! Not too expensive and pro all the way!
Behringer's mission is to make pro mixers affordable to everyone. Only problem is a lot of them are out of stock cos they sell out quickly! This model, however is still available!

Like you say, dj's should be creative. Getting the beats to match is a really small part of being a good dj. Beatmixing is a platform on which a dj can perform, it is a minimum requirment. The last thing you should have to worry about is if the speeds match. With that behind you it's all about what you play and when you play it. Controlling the the groove and the journey and the moment, not only the speeds. Hell sometimes I don't even look at the cdj's or use the math - the pitch is on 0% and I'm only playing tracks at 144bpm. Original tempo. Whatever. Beatmixing is really not that difficult when you KNOW for sure the tracks are at the same speed before you drop in your track and handle the transition.
I guess what I am saying is there is a technical side and a creative side. Once you got the tech sorted - the fun begins! Tech means maths, bpm's measured or whatever you'd like to prepare before and understanding the structure of each track you have in your bag. When you KNOW the beats are in, you can give all your attention to blowing peoples minds. You will find your own technique as you go forward, i'm sure

The math is helpful dude. You can spend like 30 min trying to get the speeds to match if you have no idea what bpm range you are in. Like I said... "use your ears ". But remember that a novice dj won't immediately hear how much a track has to be sped up or down instantly. You have to practice getting it right many times until you can start to hear the differences in speed. This takes a loooooooooong time! The main thing right now is for you to get used to the sound of 2 tracks together, and noticing when 1 of the 2 starts to drift off tempo. The math will help you set this up. When you drop in the next track in your headphones it's all up to your ears to judge if the the speeds are actually correct or whether you have to shift things around a bit to make it fit ( using the jog dial. )
Don't worry, you are not a wanker if you use the math! Then 80% of the pro Psytrance world out there would be wankers! ( O.K, granted, about 50% at least are wankers! but not because of the math!)
Using mathematics means you are just precise. And good mixing is about precision.
However you decide to approach it. Just "don't drop the baby" as we used to say! -

I use this sytem. It really is a big help. But use your ears to beatmix, not a calculator!
I measure all bpm's before so when I load up the cdj I can adjust the pitch immediately. Then I know it is the the correct "zone". Then I use the headphones and make the really fine adjustments.
I have always used the math formula and I find it terrific, because you can spend a little more time working on the perfect "next track", as well as thinking about how you gonna mix it in.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter how you get to a great mix, as long as it's a great mix!

1. Calculate your bpms beforehand.
2. Remember that +/- 1bpm = +/- 0.7%
3. Count the beats that you are listening to. When you hear a crash your counting should begin ( crash = 1 ). Bring in your next track when you reach 16.
4. Use your ears for the rest! You will hear when the two tracks are riding together!
