  1. I respect the idea, but I don't get it. Why should one long for physical artifacts when digital format is more versatile and practical and cheaper? I'm 56 so I've come through tapes, vynil, CDs and I don't regret having reverted totally to digital format (BTW, and of course, I always keep two backups stored in different places).

The only reason I can see for preffering CDs is an inclination to collection, which is an another story.

I'm with you, but this is an old argument and both sides are pretty well dug in.

What I don't understand is when a label releases a CD but refuses to release a digital version too (even after a suitable delay to first sell the CDs). For example, UX-Audissey or the various Mind Rewind compilations.

  2. I also don't like singing in psytrance. I don't even know if such a thing exists, but I like the use of chants/samples. And I shall quote the most popular one:

"I believe with the advent of acid. We discovered new ways to think and it has to do with piecing together new thoughts of mind. Why is it that people are so afraid of it? What is it about it that scares people so deeply? Because they are afraid that there is more to reality than they have ever confronted. That there are doors that they are afraid to go in and they don't want us to go in there either because if we go in, there we might learn something that they don't know. And that makes us a little out of their control."

    ....let the music begin.

I have the same reaction to this as having to watch a compulsory ad before an online video starts. Please spare me the fortune cookie wisdom and just play the damn music.

  3. Finally got around to this album. Best tracks for me were 3-8. The music is energetic and aggressive, but I also found it frequently monotonous with a harsh, "muddy" sound. The BPM is so high that the music can't breathe. This album would probably be more interesting if Cybernetika dialed back the warp drive.

  4. I'm still digesting the album, but so far I don't like it as much as his earlier music. I could do without the chanting and voice samples. However, maybe this album is more of a transitional work and we should withhold judgement until we hear the next album. He's got a pretty good track record so far, so I'm willing to keep listening to see how his music evolves.

  5. Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland is a very good rock album where some tracks are psychedelic. The instrumentation is basically guitars and drums (and vocals) rather than the electronic effects you might hear with Pink Floyd.

For a more downtempo vibe (and electronic soundscape) you might consider Pat Metheny - As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls. Metheny's more of a jazz musician.

  6. There were a number of good compilations and reissues, but here's a couple of albums that I enjoyed the most:

    Uptempo

    1. Skizologic - Robotized
    2. Qiujan - Ritual To The Light
    3. Skizologic - Ease Your Mind EP

I thought that a lot of other albums were well produced, but not particularly distinctive. I listened once or twice but never went back.

(In the "All Other" category, I also nominate Ozric Tentacles - Technicians Of The Sacred.)

  7. I thought Artifact303 and Merr0w had the best tracks. I liked the Zirrex track but it felt a little out of place on this album. The other tracks were good, but nothing really excited me (maybe Psy-H Project).

I do applaud the effort of all the people who made this album (and the Prologue release) possible.

  8. FYI, a lot of psy and goa can now be sampled at Bandcamp, including some of the early classics.
