    Career Quality Decline

    The other week I went to a gig to watch my friend play who was billed among Quantize (who was great) and Talamasca.

     

    Having only heard Beyond the Mask, an excellent album, I didn't really have any idea what Talamasca would be playing 11 years later. I guess I was expecting some intelligent full on along the lines of Braincell or something. I was definitely a little bit shocked, disgusted and disappointed when I was served a 1 kilogram block of terrible terrible cheese. It was bad, guitars and everything. I would have left after about 30 seconds if I wasn't with a whole bunch of other people who were somehow enjoying the party music and wanted to stay.

     

    Of course this music serves its purpose and can be fun, but I guess I just don't get it. Why would you go from producing intelligent goa trance to producing crap? Of course music doesn't have to be serious business the whole time, but you can have fun and have quality..

     

     

    What other once great artists have suffered the same decline? Just so I can avoid them in the future :P

    If you feel like trying something a bit different and experimental give this a crack, really nice mix of glitch and psychedelic progressive.

    Can always recommend more of the darker proggy sounds like Sensient and Cujorious One:

    Pspiralife - Self Similiar, Tetrameth - The Eclectic Benevolence, VA - Mechanics of Awakening, VA - Spun Cycle

     

     

    Also, I'm really looking forward to Logic Bomb's upcoming album!

    I reckon as LvB said, maybe try out the progressive suggestions, Merkaba and Tetrameth, but really anything from Zenon. Not a bad selection at Ektoplasm either. I wouldn't really call it the generic progressive sound at all, its definitely much darker, trippier and deeper and something different. Often either really tribal or really science, not the 'clubby' sound at all.

    Often people get stuck staring at the jigsaw pieces rather than looking at the whole puzzle, thus, this is random. Same with life too I guess, I know I one for one am always confused haha. But that's also why Dark Psy is my favourite style, its challenging and intelligent.

    I use this as a reference and reviewing site, if I hear a name thrown around on other forums or anywhere else, in it goes into the psynews search. Also probably the most accurate and comprehensive review section anywhere. Psynews hasn't let me down yet. However I probably should actually contribute something..
