  1. Great flyer for OP an HV. Fit's nicely with their stuff, I hope you'll have a blast :)

HV and OP were fantastic. I had a great night!

HV - Awesome voice from the singer (I was surprised with his perfect English and pronunciation, but he was born in the UK, so it makes sense), great sound quality, perfect execution of songs, much better than the record and they also had a violinist. It's nothing revolutionary but a great modern approach to Psychedelic folk rock especially with the keyboard and sound effects. It's exactly as they themselves describe their music: Forest mystic psychedelic rock, they truly created a mystical atmosphere and the dirtiness of the live sound added to this along with their improvisations. Both me and my fiancee fell in love with the apparently-psychopath-chubby-yet-sexy bassist (a girl with dreads) who in a very unusual way moved her body Asynchronously to her hands/fingers (which were playing the bass).

OP - Total full-on psychedelic mayhem, 1,5 hours of non-stop heavy riiffs, melodies and special effects. It mas mind-blowing, one of the best concerts I've been to (and I've been to hundreds), I've never heard anything like it. Like you put a keyboard to Messhugah or a harder, more psychedelic, more electronic Arcturus. 5 fairly average looking guys playing like madmen on Mushrooms.

  2. Hoping to find some time to go watch Dr. Strange. Wednesday used to be my Cinema day but now I've been assigned a Judo-only training session on Wednesday night, so I have to go at late-night screenings after I finish teaching.

Edit: 2 surprisingly good action films that I saw recently where:

    1) The equalizer - A believable version of John Wick (The only thing I enjoyed in John Wick was the grappling-based martial arts choreography, the rest was shit)

    2) Run all night - Very good directing, keeps you on the edge all the time, will definetly watch it again since I was a bit tired.

  3. Wonderful pictures Mars!

Look at that girl with a broken leg :D you go girl.

My pics suck, even with a good camera I'm useless.

I remember the girl with crouches. I've done the same thing actually at a much tougher environment, a couple of days after my meniscus surgery I went to a Prodigy concert at the Olympic TKD stadium (Athens) and I waited until the queue was short so I could go in the venue as late as possible. So as I'm about to go in, the majority of the people who were at the doors were those that wanted to go in for free, so they started throwing beer bottles (glass), rocks and everything projectile to the security guards so my mates picked my up and took me in. From what I learnt, most people actually managed to get pass the guards. Inside the venue, a barman was kind enough to bring out a beer keg by the bar so I would sit on it whenever I wanted. The concert was great, the sound was terrible but my mates built a little wall in front me so whenever people were moshing, I'd be protected.

I think a couple of weeks after that I went to a Tiesto event (for free of course, I wouldn't pay) but that was nothing really, the only problem I had was with the plastic water bottles, so when my crouches would step on them, they turned into makeshift skateboards.

Hey Joske, do you get to see the tall guy (who speaks Greek) in Belgium? I was with him in Antwerp too (Xenomorph, Subcoubs, Electric Universe, You etc), but I can't remember his name, what's he up to?

    How about Gemini?

  4. Sounds really great! :) Thank you :)

I wasn't happy when James had his alcohol abuse extravaganza on St.Anger. Death Magnetic was oldschoolish but really horribly produced and mastered, even it had some ideas. Two new tracks came out and I was still affraid, but few days ago, third treack appeared - Atlas, Rise! Yes ladies and gents, Metallica is back!

It's definitely early 90s style Metallica but it just doesn't do it for me. It's like they've taken bit and pieces from other songs and stitched them together, I found it quite pointless, soulless and even a bit off-beat, maybe I need to hear it at a better sound system (played it at work) but for now it's just bleeeeeeeeeh.

On the other hand the new Testament album is A BEAST! I can't wait for their concert on the 28th!!!

  5. I was speaking with Federico (Draeke) a couple of weeks ago and he said that he would make this post. Since he probably forgot about it and I have some time to kill before going to the gym. I'll post my pics from then! I encourage everyone who was present then to post their pics and memories.

It was (almost) exactly 10 years ago. It's a pitty Twisted didn't hold a 20 year anniversary party, I would have surely been there!

Ppl that I remember and were present:

Belgian crew: Anoebis, Caroline, Short girl who was also at psynews, Tall guy that spoke Greek and has a house at Antipaxoi (Ionian sea), Short guy that had black hair and also organised a party a few months afterwards in Antwerp + many more that I can't remember

    Mars
    Draeke

    Deathposture with Asian girl

    Overdose

Colin OOOD (not at bar but met at the venue)

American guy that had banana avatar

Swiss lesbian girl (popular psynewer but can't remember her alias)

    Pixiejanet

Russian girl that just came to the meeting because she found it on google

    My mate Dimitris

Irish or aussie dude with short curly hair

    +more

The party was awesome music-wise but too crowded, it took me half an hour to get 2 beers. However, it was great meeting all you guys though! It was also the start of my awesome 2.5 month solo backpacking trip to India.

It's funny that Federico (Draeke) also took a pic with a car outside the venue, his was with a Citroen Frog (that's how we call it in Greece) that was glittery green, I took a pic with a Bentley.

I'll just post my pics and some special ones that I downloaded from other people.

  6. I'll just tell thing the way they happened instead of describing my feelings

The past few weeks a team of 5 from my hometown and another 2 women from Athens, we are all planning for purchasing our ZNA 2017 phase 1 (80 eur) tickets.... You may ask, what's the fuss about?

Well the past 2 years in Greece we have bank capital controls so credit cards don't always work online. Luckily I have an American Diners CC (remember I'm an Ex banker)  that works like every other Normal CC in any part of the First world and most countries of the rest of the world. So I charged the girl's paypal accounts and was responsible for paying the tickets for my team directly with my Diners.

GMT 12:00 was the time that the gateway would open and indeed it did open on time. I was of the first people to log in, I quickly input all the names and as I was about to pay with paypal, the bloody ticketing system asked me to log in once more WHICH RESULTED IN MY LOSING MY F#CKING QUEUE.

At that point in some weird cosmic Murphian coincidence my phone started to ring non-stop:

My GF, a collague of hers, my blacksmith, my brother and one of my mates (not coming to ZNA) were calling me one after the other. I picked up the phone call of my mate and told him to tell the universe to F#CK 0FF and leave me alone.

At the same time I was opening browser windows and getting into queues. At 10 mins the bus tickets were sold out (don't care, we'll rent a car) and at about 20 the ticket+bus combo. Luckily around the 25 min mark it was my time and I booked my tickets in a frantic pace, since I hadn't realized that there's was a counter that wrote: Take your time you have X mins to book your ticket.

In the meantime, one of the girls from Athens couldn't book her ticket (they other got it in the first 5 mins) so she was messaging me on FB asking for help, Luckily, I hadn't closed all my browser windows and one of them allowed me to book. The problems was, that I was talking to her (tried to call her but she was busy all the time) and she wouldn't reply with her full name in Latin characters and her date of birth, The clock was ticking but luckily at around 4 mins before the clock expired, I bought her a ticket too.

I know 25 eur is not really a big deal but overall we saved ~200 eur which is ~70% of the car rental fee. I don't really have financial difficulties but the other guys and girls all have financial issues or are unemployed so for them every euro counts!

Anyway, I'll take my time now and find flights for them but that can wait until March (I've noticed that at about 6 months before a trip, the first offers and discounts appear, earlier that 6 months is pointless to look for deals). I'll probably go to North India and Nepal (or some other exotic destination) in July and we have an appointment for the 21st of August at Lisbon airport with our VW Polo or Ibiza station wagon rented car!

Aaaa and the phase 1 tickets were sold out at about 1.5 hours.

Last night ZNA announced  that Transwave will play in their original line-up (Deedrah and Absolum together) and when I read it at my phone, I bit it like commandos do when they go to battle and started running around the living room, screaming like a little biatch!!!!!!!!!!!!

    CU AT THE LAKE!

  7. I can't believe I've missed this thread!

I love some good disco, I think what I like most is: That disco people never took themselves really seriously, they knew they were making simple catchy dance music and didn't pretend they were master artists, they just had pure silly fun with the whole process.

There's always some good Pop music that comes out every year that will become classic. For example, from previous years:

Lana del rey - Summertime sadness

Goyte - Some body I used to know

    Adelle, Lady gaga...

and of course pop music has given giants like Michael Jackson, Madonna, David Bowie, Abba, Aretha Franklin, Amy Whinehouse...

I still occasionally listen to my New kids on the Block vinyls!!

  8. @Richpa

Death metal is really not my thing but it's great that you post bands you like!

I've been impressed with these kids (they are quite young) from Athens. They have only one album, I've heard them twice live and even the 2nd time with a horrible sound system I really enjoyed them. I also noticed that girls really liked their music (don't know what this says about my sexuality   ) so it could be a nice starting topic with any woman that enjoys some rock or metal. They play instrumental prog post-rock/metal

  9. I'll just show-off and say that I've heard OOOD live at Aurora festival in Greece. I think it was one of the best acts of the fest and a lot of people were pleasantly surprised and really appreciated that they were ACTUALLY playing live, with all the gear, not just with a laptop and a controller.

I only briefly chatted with Collin at the chill stage but we have bumped at various events in London: Twisted 10y bday, Younger brother live, Shpongle live (maybe, not sure) and at one of the Glades too.

Edit: In terms of what you are discussing above about mixing skills. The only Psy/goa DJ that has impressed me the past years was Yiannis Megas (of Gene Joke fame) and a few years ago Ace Ventura (both were  playing with CDs, not Live). Both are competent producers so, in a way, you can't really call them DJs but they had some serious mixing skills!!!!

I think that most psy/goa djs don't really put much effort in their technical practice, which can't really be done with psy/goa tracks, I believe that in order to get proficient with DJing one really needs to practice with Techno. Psy/Goa doesn't give much room for manipulation especially if one is a beginner.

  10. A little bit of topic:

I've always associated all kinds of house,(even dark tech house) with sunny beach days, young girls dancing in their bikinis, cold beer, swimming etc (you get the image). That's how I usually spend my summer Sundays, at the world-famous Cariocas Beach bar.
Whenever I go to any kind of indoor venue playing house I simply can't stand it for more than a few minutes. It's like the silly happiness and sexuality, associated with house music, is simply not there!

  11. Also the winds from south are not good for your crops I believe. I remember reading some wind responsible for crop damage in Greece.

Not really the case anymore, agriculture production is fairly advanced here (technology wise) so even the summer heat waves (or any wind) are not really a problem for crops . Usually crops damage happens regionally from hale or floods. Lack of rain is usually a problem for certain regions of the country but I thin it's been more than 20 years that we had a serious drought, in fact it rains much more now than when I was a kid. I come from a VERY DRY agricultural town so the topic of rain is discussed every day.
