  1. chi ad is great, one of the few goa/psy artists i really like. His music has a lot of feeling. I hope his new stuff will be very emotional. I always felt that chi ad sounds best outdoors though, for me it works better on a small boombox outdoors then at home.

  2. lol Negrosex its about time for some new gear :D

I cant afford anything new right now. And the esq1 is just a picture i found on the net, mine is in a slightly better condition ;) . But i don't feel like i need much more than this. Maby one or two more pieces and im done (yeah right  ). A nice analogue monosynth and maby something from the Kurzwiel K2xxx series.

  3. I think the point of this contest should be to make a great cd, i don't think it would ever be possible to crown the best producer and i don't think we need to do that either. If we are trying to have that kind of competition everybody should use the same gear and there sould be wery strict rules about everything.

I wouldn't want to participate in a competition like that. What's the point? To be able to brag to yor friends that your the best producer on psynews? I would much rather be on a cd that people listen to and think: This is a great cd with some original and fresh ideas. I wouldn't mind not getting on the cd just becauce people didn't like my style. That's life, popularity contests like these will never be fair so get over it.

The main objective should be to make a great cd. We don't even have to call it a contest if that makes people get the wrong ide. We could call it an audition or something. :)

  4. What about having a certain theme for the cd? That way people could submit tracks in their own style and the tracks would still have something in common. It would be easier to make the whole cd tell a story and not just be a bunch of good tracks on a cd. The story thoug wouldn't be obvious untill the winning tracks had been chosen (maby some of the dj's on the forum could help with wich order the tracks should be in). Let's say the theme would be spaceships or nuclear war or dolphins or public bathrooms or wathever...

I don't know i just thought it could be a fun idea, and then future contests could have different themes.

  5. I have some thoughts.

Since this is supposed to be a contest the tracks that gets voted as winners will probably have different sounds and styles and might not fit wery well together. Is this a problem? Should we have some kind of theme for the tracks (something like the crystal skulls cd)? What rules should there be for the contest? Will it be a double cd?

Somebody with ears and experience should do the mastering, any volunteers?

  6. yeah - but it sounds slower ....... a strange comment I know, but it does !!!!

Thats not so strange. Just look at it matematically: 3/4 is 1/4 less than 4/4. ;)

But as mentioned earlier you don't have to stick to one time signature. Mix 3/4 and 4/4 and you will get something very hypnotic if you do it right. I think this method is used in african drumming too (two different rythms at the same time).

  7. oooh!

don't forget the funk and the massive superwaves and the subtlety and fatness :D

Hehe, i will keep that in mind. ;)

It's turning out pretty housey, ill post a link when it's finished. :)

  8. When you're talking about it, I would be happy to see the psytrance scene replaced with something else. I know what I would like it to sound like, but still i can't imagine it... Cosmic but yet slow and funky.. And fat but still subtle. Something that makes pictures of giant future cities in the skies pop up in your head, a melting pot of coolness and emotion.. Cause trance has a disturbing lack of emotions and funkiness (at least all the tracks i've heard).

This topic really carries me away :D

Won't sleep tonite. Will daydream about those cities instead. Where everyone has purple hair´and blue clothings... And where all the music is good.

Since i have nothing better to do i will now try to make a new song in this style that you have described. But don't get your hopes up, it will probably not sound anything like you have imagined. But thanks for the inspiration! :)

  9. I like them, quality production. I listened to the tracks from 2005 and i can't complain about much.

Happy Tree Friends: Sounds good until the friends starts singing, then it becomes too playful for my liking.

Dream of a new world: Nice, i really like the bass and the faster bassline that comes in on top of it towards the end of the preview.

The man who turned on america: I don't like the bass in this one, maby you could transpose it down one octave or fade it a bit more to the background? All the other elements sounds very nice though.

Psilocybin: Sounds good, i think this will be a very nice track.

    O-range: Same as above.

    And a nice webpage too.

Upload some full tracks please. :)

  10. I like it, i can't find much to criticize about it. Hmm... But maby the pads could use some work? I would eq out the lower frequencies in that choir/pad sound you use and add another layer off pads with more stuff happening in them. Like some long evolving FM pads or some wavetable stuff. And if you want the pads to have some lower end frequencies i think you should use a more sawlike wave for that purpouse. :)

  11. Hi! I listened to "crunchy dreams", the main thing i noticed was the bass, it doesn't sound right. First of all i think you should use a more clean bass sound, the one that comes in at 0:14 and continues throughout the track is pretty anoying to me. It sounds like it's somewhere between C and C#. I would prefer a cleaner sounding bass at G#. I think it would sound much better if you fixed this.

Then i saw the vnvmods recommendation about "noon lake" and decided to try that one out too. Its very nice, i think this is your style. It reminds me of early-mid ninties trance, it has a lot of feeling. Sounqualitywise it could be better but im not a fan of todays superclean productions either, you should get some old used synths hook them up with your computer. I think that would fit perfectly. :)

    Nice work!

  12. I use acid for mixing an rearanging tracks. I do my midi sequencing elswhere but i like to beatmap my tracks and be able to cut and paste and move stuff arround in acid sometimes. Im sure Ableton Live is a great program but i still think acid pro is good enough to make proffesional music in.

Im curious about ableton live and i will surely try it out when i get the chance, it has gotten great reviews so it might replace acid pro in my studio if it makes things easier and more fun than acid.
