  1. I'm curious, does plastikman generally come under 'minimal acid house'? I'm talking about his first two albums 'sheet one' and 'musik' rather than the later albums that seem to be classed more under ambient (not listened to them yet). Also what are peoples thoughts on his work under this alias? I've not yet explored Hawtin's work outside of the two aforementioned albums but I can't get enough of them, and I got a little dismayed by Rino, amongst others, in an old minimal thread saying they used to love Hawtin but have now somehow become dissillusioned. I dunno... I'm just wondering if I've got a sort of blind affinity for his work that may wear off after a while.

Heh, just listening to the album Musik as I write this, Track 3 (Kriket), and 4 mins 30 seconds into it you can hear a distant rock track playing. Like really really distant. You may have to pump the volume right up on headphones to get it. Doesn't sound like it is intentional but then again he does love playing with ideas of silence and whathaveyou so perhaps it is. Sound leakage from another studio perhaps? :)

  2. Don't know if anyone goes to this event but recently there's been confusion over whether Kulu in Bradford, UK is going to be running at all... Well here's the next one's info copied over from psymusic. Apparently, as with Cabbage, Kulu is no longer going to be a monthly party either so anyone who can come should do so to show support :)

  3. Around 70 euros per month. This month is an exception though. I'll try to cut some other expences like ice creams etc :D

I don't have much money either, but I prefer to spend 70 euros in a bulk of cds than spend 120 euros in one night just to go listen to a stupid Greek singer (like most Greeks do).

I guess if I was single I'd prolly adopt a very similar philosophy, but when I spend a lot of money on CDs it sorta feels like I'm spending a lot of 'our' money on CDs that could be used in activities and such that we both enjoy (she hates psy ).

  4. There I did it again!

    7 cds, 100 euros.

And the funny thing is that half of the cds I ordered haven't arrived yet. That means another 60 euros the next week.

But all of the cds look delicious! :)

:) How much money do you spend roughly on releases per month? Generally for me it's only around £25 a month though recently I ordered £100 worth and felt that that was a LOT of money to be throwing at it in one big bulk order. Wish I did have the money to spend on it more often all the same I guess

  5. I play psy at the incinerator a lot. Start off so quiet no one can hear it and keep raising the volume minutely every now and then till it seeps into the environment ninja like  It's the only way I can get them to stand being in the same room as it. Generally they eventually realise what's going on and force me to turn Beach boys/Queen/Red Hot Chillis back on. They wont even acknowledge it as a music genre. To them it's just noise. I think with most people, especially the old ones set in their ways, trying to train them to actually enjoy psy is pretty futile.

Doesn't stop me trying though...

  6. you are right! its gonna be every two months.............oh well...maybe its a good thing............

Maybe... but I dunno. I can't help but feel like this is due to the recent drop in numbers at both Kulu and Cabbage. I'm hoping it's not a sign that the whole crowd is begining to move on in that neck of the woods. That would really suck

  7. no-one said anything that i have heard...

there`s not one next month because of a special for halloween and theres not usually one in december anyway ........

i`ll ask Chris..i dont mind if its every two months personally, gives me time to save up and i`ll do kulu on the opposite month lol.......

yeah it would probably save a bit of money :) Times are tight recently so I guess it'd be for the best anyhow
  8. EE! you young uns just can`t hack the pace! lol

Mervs set just got better and better, how could you possibly leave before the end? Pleased you had fun tho:)

Two of our group were falling asleep in the chill out room. I'd have been very happy to stay till the end :)

  9. In any case I need to buy this album next time I have some money coming in. Have bought far too much music this month already

Well like I said I went and saw them and they had a CD vendor... so I bought it anyway :) Playing it now and loving the grooves.
  10. THAT was the best Cabbage ever! i hardly left the trancefloor................

System7 Rocked, and merv Eat Static... WOW kept me groovin til the music stopped!

Nice to meet you Yard Hippie..............:)

Heh yeah it was pretty spectacular. System 7 were absolutely brilliant. I think with Merv it was just too late in the night and we were all just a little bit too shattered to appreciate his set. Which was a shame really because I was looking forward to it. Plus we were forced to leave before he'd completely finished. Awesome Cabbage though :D

Nice to meet you too Pixie ;)

  11. Looking forward to seeing Eat Static live tonight in Leeds but doubt they'll be playing anything downbeat, which I guess I feel a little dissapointed at. In any case I need to buy this album next time I have some money coming in. Have bought far too much music this month already

  12. psytrance market in america  sounds like a joke to me! after i moved here i asked few of my friends for a place to buy cds and they told me about this huge store here which supposedly has EVERYTHING....everything my ass!!!! i asked 3 of the employees for psytrance records, 2 of them gave me this  look and asked "what trance!??!" and third one was like -_- and handed me infected fucking mushroom !!!!!!!!!

i just wish i could go to a store, go through few CDs and buy it there...

Same here in the UK. I remember a while back I went on a quest to find somewhere, anywhere in Manchester that sold psy. I figured that there must be a small underground shop somewhere that catered for it in the entire of Manchester. I found cyberdog, which I already knew about and that charges £19.99 a cd and that was it

It's always confused me that it is not more popular when you consider that there is a lot of music outside of the mainstream which you can quite happily go out and buy if you feel the need. Perhaps someone should exploit this huge hole in the market...

  13. not managed a Castle party... too many other commitments sadly:(

i see all the pics tho:)

That's a great shame, but I guess commitments are commitments. We can all be glad that Kulu itself is even still around after all the drama this last year or so I suppose. Fraid it'll always be closer to my heart than Cabbage, even if Cabbage is truly spectacular at times.
  14. my local party, Cabbage, (you may have heard me mention this before) does a right mix of music...and it works...

at the next one there is going to be old and new stuff played as its the 10th birthday bash..cant wait!

I love the chill out room at Cabbage. There's a DJ that plays there, think he's a resident, and he always takes me to brilliant places. Plus now they've opened the back area outside you can get a cup of tea and go chill in the breeze for a bit. Also v much looking forward to the 10th birthday bash :)
  15. ultimae is going to re-print everything by the end of the year. and once the new fahrenheit project is released, they are going to have a package with all FP compilations.

That's also useful to know. Then again I'm not likely to get this much money to spend in one binge again in quite some time so even if they did all stay in stock the chances of buying many of them later on are still slim. Still exciting to think the rest of their catalogue will be up for grabs at a later date though :D

  16. If you do go for an Ultimae spree then from what's available at their store I would get the Panoramic Pack there is some nice stuff there & you never know when you'll not be able to get them. The 2 Oxycantas are great.

Heh thanks for that, I was considering buying all included in there but seperately. Clearly I need to read these things more carefully, you prolly just saved me some money :)

  17. So I've just been given £250 to play around with and I'm torn as to what I should buy with it. I'm thinking I'll either put the whole lot towards buying a decent amp (only have a shitty old pioneer thing, though it does the job) or go on an Ultimae binge and spend around £100 there then put the rest in a pot again towards an amp. Thing is that I'm thinking if I leave the ultimae buying too late then their releases will end up unavailable at normal rates, whereas the amp can maybe wait. I have very little in the realm of ambient/downtempo and Abasio's mixes have made me see the huge gaping hole in my life that they could be filling as I type. Then again maybe the money is just burning a hole in my pocket and I'm wanting instant gratification. Decisions Decisions.
