a few suspect mixes but hey ho there you go :P

I really do need to become more active on here... this mix almost totally passed me by. Looking forward to hearing it :)

  2. Definately a subculture sure, but it's not so clear cut as many. I know people who go to Psy raves regularly because they love the atmosphere and it's uniqueness to other vibes generated elsewhere BUT at the same time they don't actually like the music one bit and in fact get impressively annoyed at it when they're outside of the rave environment. And it can't even be said that they all only go for the alternative substances since a few of them opt to only drink alcohol. I think that a lot of it can be seen as a fragmentation of our lives recently with a seperation of the spheres of our influence. When we go to work that's one fragmentation, when we go out that's another and when we chill and perhaps listen to music at home it can easily be entirely different, the spheres very rarely come together. Someone mentioned the rock scene earlier and it's another good example because you get a lot of people into the culture with the clothes and attitude but who are overwhelmed with the people that just incorporate it into their lieves as a very seperate influence. In fact as I remember it the modern day sociological outlook into these things has pretty much abandoned the idea of subculture and sided strongly for something called 'neo-tribes', which is something I studied far too long ago to remember well.

  3. The day before Kulu Castle... Count me in :D Should be quite a weekend...

I hope that the first DJ on doesn't kill the vibe like the first on last time though. Sorry to say it but he just really did not work for me. No idea which of them it was at the time but there was just absolutely no variation whatsoever and it was all just very bleh... IMO of course. Looking forward all the same :)

  4. you know, on the few chav "rave" (schranz techno, commercial trance and hardstyle) events I have been to I sometimes felt this kind of agoraphobia coming up in me ... it's like I can smell the aggression in the air and when there's a fight somewhere it's never cool but always emotionally aggressive, evil, biting ... you can sense the unfriendliness and aggression there ... it's horrible ... I don't wanna be there ... on metal or psy festies I feel a kind of warmth, a kind of comfort even if there are mosh pits or crazy dancers ... it's a good kind of aggression and not the type of explosive unfriendly cold I experienced on those chav raves...

There's a place I go to that hosts a few different raves, one of them being a psy night (which is the only one I go to) and the rest being other styles and I never ever came accross violence... then I decided to try out one of the others they hosted. In the queue waiting to get into the place there was a chav coked up to the eyeballs picking a fight with someone in the line, but he was that fucked that he couldn't figure out who it was so he just kept storming into the queue, being shoved/yanked away, then storming back again, lunging at someone else each time. The night just got progressively worse. I've found since that even though at psy raves everyone is totally screwed on whatever they can get their hands on, their tends to be something else other than the macho thing of 'boshing' ten pills at once or whatever. It's probably the same thing acting in both cases, the atmosphere, but I guess they're just very different to one another. Even when I have chatted and danced and been happy with the chavs that do frequent psy events they're just happy people the same as the rest. There is also far less of an obsession with the guys slapping the girls arses and whathaveyou... Just generally less testosterone perhaps? It's probably very much linked to irritating things like mdma being more popular and it's effect of making their penises shrink as well as just 'the vibe' though.

  5. Evan Marc + Steve Hillage - Dreamtime Submersible

I could have sworn that this CD was available just last week  Anyone able to help me out here? I wouldn't be able to actually purchase it until the 28th of this month (1 week this Tuesday) but thought I'd ask in advance. Was just getting together a list of CDs to buy with my next pay packet

Am willing to pay £15 (xe says that's 19 euros/25 US dollars) for a VG+ upwards copy though the price is negotiable

Will also pay shipping costs. I live in the UK. Paypal is preferable.

This is the first time I have posted in this section so if I've done anything stupid/unreasonable let me know and I shall alter it accordingly.

  6. She sounds like a lovely girl :wank:

 she is actually, racism aside. It's actually stupidly annoying because I find that I have to almost ignore the racist undertones if I want to live and work around these people, there being next to no people in this area that are not hugely racist. I have tried to argue with them and force them to see how absolutely bastard-like and shitty and completely uncalled for their racism tends to be but it's so deeply ingrained it's almost a knee jerk reaction. She did sortof apologise in a roundabout way later when we were analysing the reasons she may have come out with such garbage though.

one thing we all seem to have in common is the "isolation feeling" when nobody around us listens to the same music as we do. :drama:

A very old friend who has supposedly finished a sound enginering course was round my house the other day and he simply wont give it the time of day. He calls it 'boom boom headache music' and when I try to explain to him that a lot of the stuff that isn't commercial is not at all just boom boom boom and actually more like flowing pieces of art etc etc he just shut off <_< Generally I find that my friends have a certain perception of what psy (or even just electronic music in general) is and cut themselves off from being able to enjoy it. Perhaps it's because they usually hear it at clubs with the volume pumped all the way up to ground shuddering proportions. Plus I think many are obsessed with the idea that listenable music has to have lyrics to really be called music.
  7. I'm liking it too. Arrived in the post yesterday and have played it also about four times. I'm not getting the 'weirdness' that Abasio describes in 'Time Circles' though  maybe I'm just not as astute with me being so very new to this style. In any case it's an awesome addition to my collection.

  8. Tell them to fuck off & play what you want. If they don't get it just tell them they are not intelligent enough to understand it. You'd be amazed how many morons this will bring round or at least shut up. The Emperor's new clothes works all the time 60% of the time

Ugh. Those people make me mad. People are so ignorant when it comes to music. Music IS noise, but shaped into some kind of rhythm. You should tell them to stick their heads up their asses.

Heh, I just noticed these replies :) Earlier this week I was playing Hol Baumann's '[Human]' ('Radio Bombay' with the ethnic female samples) to one of them who was puzzled anyone would want to spend so much on music. She promptly shouted 'This is Paki music!' and stormed out of the room when the vocals started up

  9. My initial reaction to Hol Baumann's '[Human]' is very positive. Will take a few listens to really cement it up there but it's beautiful stuff. Then again I have another six or so releases from Ultimae I still havn't got round to listening to me sitting right here so who knows :)

  10. I have never been able to overlisten his stuff. I love it to the core, and will prolly always do so.

    +10

It moves me in ways a lot of music fails to achieve

Wanna buy a glow in the dark T-Shirt when I make them? :D

    Also yeah! B)
  11. i was wondering why the new CD prices on amazon are so cheap compare to other websites. am i really supporting the artist by buying from amazon? even when amazon's price is not cheap, there are few sellers that sell these items for cheap.

I sometimes order from Amazon because yeah, like you say, they can be dirt cheap :(

But then again Amazon marketplace offers work from sellers such as Twisted so I guess you're still supporting the smaller outlets when you order.

  12. one my roommates who is right next to my room has a jazz funk band and plays sax himself. so i always have some funky music going on next to me. the guy next to him (which is basically also next to me) is studying composition so from his room i can always hear classical/modern classical and drum n bass !!!!!! ...and i'm always playing psy up/down beat (while on the other side of the house there is jam room) so you can imagine it's very hectic here !!!!! poor neighbors :P

Heh, that's brilliant. The only time we had anything even slightly similar was when we were living with the same guy I mentioned earlier and a deathmetal enthusiast (no idea what kind of music he was meant to be studying) at the same time. When I lived in halls though there was a Japanese dude who used to sing his heart out (bless his soul) and play awful sax music. He was awesome :D

  13. Like I said, I'm very undecided. I listened to 'Back To Earth' again last night and enjoyed it so... I dunno  Think it's just a piece that tunes into a specific mood to me that I need to be in to enjoy it. The jazzy riffs do it for me some times whilst others I can't stand them for very long. Never really immersed myself in the world of Jazz though so maybe that is something to do with it? Perhaps I should at some point :)

off topic: I once lived with a guy that was very into space jazz. He used to lock himself in his room and play it very quietly from his speakers then come storming out to shout at us periodically for talking too loud in the middle of the day.

  14. i was disappointed with back to earth...not my cup of tea, and i didn't have high expectations either, so

I've shoved it back in for a quick spin before I go off to work and... I dunno. Still undecided. I think certain tracks just reeaalllly annoy me, and it brings down the entire album unfortunately. Especially epoch calypso which is way too in my face with the whole carnival thing it has going on. Like I said though, undecided.
  15. I haven't listened to as much as I'd like this year, but my favorites so far are Eat Static, Hol Baumann, Vataff Project, Distant System, and Orchid Star

I can't decide with Eat static whether I love or loathe 'back to earth'. In some parts it's fantastic while in others it's very, well... brown leather armchairs and syrup coated eyeballs. Sortof sickly sweet jazz. I need to give it a few more listens I think.
  16. The local record store has huge discounts ATM, and last Sunday I bought Musik @ €5 or so, new copy of course. Haven't listened it yet (Musik) but I know it's a legendary release which I can't leave on the racks for that price :) I think the other branch of the shop should have Sheet One which I should also get if I pass by.

Having said that, his Recycled Plastik minialbum leaves me jawdrapped each time I listen to it.

Musik is just gobsmakkingly awesome. Play it now and be amazed :)

  17. Minimal, samey, repetitive and monotonous is the fashionable thingy, so if you glorify M_nus, odds are you'll be hip amongst the Berlin techno geek-head techno crowd :)

Makes sense. Richie is actually hosting a M_NUS party near where I live next weekend but it doesn't seem that tickets are still available... but perhaps if his musical direction has changed so drastically it's for the better and besides, there's a psy party the same night I've already sortof bound myself to. Still a great shame all the same though

Anyways, Richie's essential collection which excludes Plastikman would include:

    F.U.S.E.- Dimension Intrusion

    Richie Hawtin- DE9 | Transitions

    Circuit Breaker- Trac-X

    Richie Hawtin- Minus Orange 12"

    UP!- Spiritual high 12"

    Final Exposure- Vortex 12"

Richie Hawtin & Pete Namlook as From Within- From Within 1 , From Within 2

...and if you can cope with it, give his Concept 1 series a chance. On a personal level, I don't dig it.

I shall copy these selections to wordpad to dig up later when I have the money to throw at it again. Thanks muchly :)

  18. The acid tab cover controversy made EVERYBODY look, and well Spastik... Spastik is when those who looked before listened as well.

I just ordered 'Recycled Plastik' recently. Have resisted the urge to download this track and listen to it so that I get the fresh thrill that everybody else seems to have gotten from it.

Why did you develop a dismay if I lost interest? I've been canning to death everything he's published since about as long as I remember. It only took me 12 years to quit the "ass kissing".

*dreamy smile*, I guess I just don't want the magic to end ;)

As for the slowing down of plus 8 etc, this is the first I've heard about any of that so it would be stupid of me to comment. I like the passion behind your convictions though, no longer feeling the dread. I shall have to check out the transitions album. The next question out of my mouth was going to actually be in regard to any reccomendations for things outside of plastikman which were either similar or by the same guy, but then remembered I have no money and didn't want to live in torture until I did :)
