3. Got this compil recently and wish I'd bought something else, not my cup of tea at all...

All tracks are in the same style - dark, relentless, scary-style stuff with few melodies and crowded soundstage...

The cover art is a perfect match for the music..

The tracks aren't really progressive and certainly not minimal, just a pounding beat with sound effects over the top - all sound effects are similar - moogy sqweaky bizzare sounds, very little about this is harmonious or catchy in any way...

The tracks could use breaks also, they're all just so relentless and monotone...

I don't understand the hype about Derango either...

Some people may like/love this compil however so don't be turned off it just because I don't like it, but I'd definately listen to some samples b4 you buy it...

    236255

What did you expect? Progressive??? Nizhonot? Cheezy Fullon??? Minimal???

The tracklist should be clear -> Only strong psychedelics. For sure nothing minimal & progressive and no cheese at all :D

  4. Didn't these guys release on ultrabeat? Kudos.

    232058

The first release of Megalopsy was on the compilation "Ignis Fatuus" last year in december. On Ultrabeat they never released. So far they only released tracks on our label. The last was the intro and outro on "VA - Mushy Mystery". :)

"I would never have really thought that hard as nails, nightmarish stuff would lend itself too well to the artist-album-as-fluid-single-entity sort of thing. But this bunch of utter psychotics from Argentina have pulled a bit of a blinder, in fact more than that: this album (divided into three movements, sort of) has so many moments that just have me shaking my head in disbelief, grinning like a buffoon, and/or experiencing a rekindled faith in electronic music. The intro, Chaos, has a great sound to it, easing in with big breaks that clear the sonic pallet and ease open the scope for the distant, racing kick of Obscure Warlock, which proceeds to quickly dip you in batter before deep-frying you with high-end mentalism. Fractal Circus is unforgiving, heavy going with a rigid groove to it that’s caustic until you can’t take it any more, at which point it breaks and picks up this noise that sounds like a fountain, coming up from the centre and cascading 303style over the edges, before the tune employs some deliciously evil alice-in-wonderland carousel melodies under scything midrange swoops to really whip things into shape. The wonderfully-titled Goblin Grin has an almost Finnish backbone to it, and is all about pulling surprises out of the hat. Great changes, great noises, utter laughter eeks from the speakers. Absolutely excellent – just indescribable, but let’s say something like “all the evil demons you’ve ever encountered are back as mascots on a cereal box, and they’re chasing you down looking to fortify you with something rather punchier than vitamins and iron”. That’ll do. The flow here really starts to work, with the track easing out into Juggling Spheres, which puts a bit more zany funk into proceedings. More like a hammer horror moment, and the drop into the final run deserves to be committed to a mental institutio n. Then, the track shifts int an actually pretty gorgeous, yet still twisted, transylvaniac breaks movement. Sounding like a completely different track, and further proof that this is designed to work well played all the way through, I mean this really is something that other artists could think of doing. It adds as a great buffer, before Pachamama thunks in, sounding all the more energised for the hiatus. Building up to a really nice and clear peak, it’s a little like it’s taken an oldskool melody and dragged it through a hellish blender. The laughing monkeys then signal the start of something sweet: Monkey Supernova, possibly the standout track here. It’s just hilarious, it picks up and then messes about and just makes me laugh… oh man. So many changes, time signatures and basslines and midsection after midsection, orchestral stuff… I mean this is just sheer genius. Sheer. Genius. Space Cadet marks the final movement of the album, Cosmos, and also suggests a more menacing turn. It’ s a less playful vibe, picking up deep atmospheres at the break, all hanging together nicely. Devenir-Cosmos has an incredibly individual sound, all high-end and but driving, a perfect way to close the album before the outro Cosmos stabs in with messed up breaks, incredibly messed up sounds, delightful movement and… my god. Just staggering. There’s little more I can say that I haven’t said already: this is a ballsy, feisty triumph of an album, utterly adorable and with a gazillion times more imagination and flair than you’ll find on most discs. It may not be your normal style of psytrance, but it’s unquestionably good electronic music."

Another new label folks, this time dedicated to creaking nighttime music. For me, 2004 has seen so much innovation and excitement in this subgenre, and from the strength of this release I’d say these guys’ manifesto will place them firmly on the map as we head into another wonderful year. Zebra-N’s Slek is a no nonsense start, and a great sound: less thunky than the Parasense/KinDzaDza ilk, but definitely awesome with an atmosphere that builds brilliantly. Megalopsy’s Zactltopsitl is moody and lumbering, then Sungirl Exiter blows everything away… It’s incredibly tuff, according to the press release Sungirl is a young female producer/DJ from Russia… and on the strength of this belting piece of Viagra trance, psyreviews reckons she’d be welcome any time if she’d like her unreleased material examined. Now that we’ve reduced a frankly rather awesome artist to an utter stereotype, let’s talk about Manhunt by Vegetal, a bouncy groove with a spacious rockin’ bottomend. It’s utter killer, building into a thrashin’ mashin’ heavy metal riff that doesn’t even sound like a guitar. Exceptional. Mussy Moody’s Disconnected is a meaty and industrial vibe that has some oldskool goan tickles. Dronebixie’s Voluntary Intoxications is very disturbing, uncomfortable listening and is an absolute cruncher on a stick, and Derango’s Go Slo is an utter cruncher. Psyfactor’s Walking Demon is standout for me – an intriguing vibe that pulls you in, with an utterly killah riff that’s all in all completelt astonishing. No disrespect to the other tunes on here, but this wipes the floor with the lot of them. Finally PhasePhour’s 321 Fly… closes the album in style, building perfectly into a gorgeous, arrayed mix of belchy, fat bottomend and the cleanest proggy sounds you could ever dream of. Simply gobsmacking – as a debut album, these guys should feel thoroughly chuffed with themselves. Top class.

The first track on the CD is produced by Zebra-N from Holland with a vibrant, playful en mysterious lift of. Followed by Megalopsy, three newcomers from Argentina who will release their first album on Trishula Records soon. Their music is energetic, full of twisted brain melodies and rhythms. Sungirl from Russia is a young producer/DJ and already known by the former project "Natural Born Killers" - don't be mislead by her name, this Lady makes serious nighttime music. Vegetal from the psychedelic capital "Orebro" in Sweden migrates the attitude from metal sounds and combines it with hard pumping psy music. Dronebixie from Denmark is next and builds up a strange kind of atmosphere with his unique sounds, playing with your mind and pushing the listener to a audioclimax. Song #7 is produced by Derango from Sweden, a name you've surely already heard with their innovative psychedelic sounds. Psyfactor from Russia is next, his music is known for fast, ass-kicking beats with a typical spooky undertone. The last track on Ignis Fatuus is done by Phasephour from Norway with a unique blend of psychedelic grooves which invites you to disappear into their music.
