  1. Hey Lads,

well, i'm from Germany and play guitar and bass for about 7 years, thus i got a sense for melody, rhythm and i got many ideas flying around in my head.

The problem is... i don't know how to start. I got some samples and some VST's (i'm using Ableton Live).

I just created a boring beat...should i first let record that thing for about 2 or 3 minutes and then post arranging some things. I try to make it visual ;)

    1. |--------------------------------|

    2. |-----------xxXX---|....|--YYY---xxXX!!!!|

    3. Intro|----xxXX---XXxx---YY---|....|--YYY--XXX---xxXX!!!!----|Outro

etcpp. The letters just stand for any kind of modification

Or do you just build up slowly like this:

    1. |---|

    2. |------X-|

    3. |------XyyyX...|

    etcpp..

Sorry if it is a dumb basic question, but i just don't get it here on myself.

By the way...any hint for me, how to create a kinda smooth bassline like 1200microg. on Heroes of imagination?

    Thank you very much!

both ways are good, just do which ever way you prefer :)

I prefer doing the second method you mentioned because with the first method i get very bored of the drums/bassline when there is no melody on it, so i first create bits of melody, try to put them together, add bassline/drums, etc...

Anything that works for you is good!

  2. I enjoy it more every day! I don't think learning about the technical side changed my view on psytrance, if anything i am more impressed. I mean, if you play the piano, you enjoy much more great piano pieces ( chopin, bethoven, ... ) then if you just listened to it without any knowledge.

TRohr > you should try to count the beats unconsciously, that's what all good jazz players for example as it's really hard to count the beat and improvise at the same time. Try with blues tracks, has a very clear structure and it's easy to practice counting beats with it.

The odd thing is how some really awesome tracks stop doing it for me after one or two plays while others never get tired to me

the difference between a master piece and a good track :)

  3. I just listened to the album and it's amazing!

I agree that it's not psytrance anymore but for what it is (electro-house?), it's great. They are clearly following the same path as son kite/minilogue.

Great album! I Recommend it for people who don't dislike electro-house/minimal.

  4. I've been playing around with Reason since last september and I'd like some opinions on the latest song i've made. It's not completely finished and I'd like some comments on what's good, what's not, what did you like, what could i change and how, etc

The song has been made with Reason 4 only without any samples ( except for the drum kit of course ), is 6 minutes long. I was planning on calling it : "It's getting dark" but I'm not sure yet. The style is pretty much standard ( if I can say that) but with some jazz influence ( i've been playing jazz on the saxophone for 7 years )

    Anyway, here's the link http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z3UF2F08

I hope you enjoy it :)
