Hey Lads,
well, i'm from Germany and play guitar and bass for about 7 years, thus i got a sense for melody, rhythm and i got many ideas flying around in my head.
The problem is... i don't know how to start. I got some samples and some VST's (i'm using Ableton Live).
I just created a boring beat...should i first let record that thing for about 2 or 3 minutes and then post arranging some things. I try to make it visual
1. |--------------------------------|
2. |-----------xxXX---|....|--YYY---xxXX!!!!|
3. Intro|----xxXX---XXxx---YY---|....|--YYY--XXX---xxXX!!!!----|Outro
etcpp. The letters just stand for any kind of modification
Or do you just build up slowly like this:
1. |---|
2. |------X-|
3. |------XyyyX...|
etcpp..
Sorry if it is a dumb basic question, but i just don't get it here on myself.
By the way...any hint for me, how to create a kinda smooth bassline like 1200microg. on Heroes of imagination?
Thank you very much!
both ways are good, just do which ever way you prefer
I prefer doing the second method you mentioned because with the first method i get very bored of the drums/bassline when there is no melody on it, so i first create bits of melody, try to put them together, add bassline/drums, etc...
Anything that works for you is good!

While I would like to have Absynth, I really don't see it as a lead synth. It's kind of designed for pads and weirdness, no? Not that it can't do other sounds, but I want it for weirdness, not leads.
true, it's great for that! Who needs lead synths though ^^
doesn't one of your synth which has a good bandpass filter has an audio input?
-
Absynth has a very nice bandpass filter.

damn, right in the middle of my exams

2 pairs of subs? so 4 in total? are you going to play dubstep or dnb? :-p

There is a huge difference playing with one hand and two hands on the piano. With one hand you can basically teach yourself with maybe a few tutorials from the internet. But if you want to play some more serious stuff you should definitely get some piano lessons.

I think TRohr has been mixing for quite some time if i'm not mistaken. I've tried a bit of mixing and i'd say the most important part would be the mixer. Have you tried Tracktor? With a good control surface and audio interface it's really good. Otherwise i'd say the DJM-909, depends also on the quality of the CD players, what do you have?

I enjoy it more every day! I don't think learning about the technical side changed my view on psytrance, if anything i am more impressed. I mean, if you play the piano, you enjoy much more great piano pieces ( chopin, bethoven, ... ) then if you just listened to it without any knowledge.
TRohr > you should try to count the beats unconsciously, that's what all good jazz players for example as it's really hard to count the beat and improvise at the same time. Try with blues tracks, has a very clear structure and it's easy to practice counting beats with it.
The odd thing is how some really awesome tracks stop doing it for me after one or two plays while others never get tired to me
the difference between a master piece and a good track

abasio good summary

No matter what gear you have there is always something that's just slightly better which you ultimately want to get!
that's true for any gadget/software
-
any big festivals will be rubbish dumps because is very difficult to control big crowds ( especially when alcohol/drugs are involved ). But I must admit psytrance raves/parties are by far the nicest ones ( I guess people are not drunk and don't take "aggressive" drugs ).

Good idea actually. I've just created a twistedsessions account here : http://twistedsessions.com/artists/842/
And yes I've posted an older version of the track in the Music Making forum.
Thanks for the comment ;-)

Hello everyone!
I'm posting a few tracks of mine to get some feedbacks. There are 5 tracks of various genre of psytrance: melodic, full on, chill, ...
So tell me what do you think!

Pixel - Reality strikes back
Silent Sphere - Mind games
Very hypnotic IMO, fits your description.

Yes sorry, I noticed the Music Promotion section just after I created the topic. I'll post there the finished version of this song along with a few other ones I've been working on.
Thanks for the comment ;-)

why not listen to french dub?
High Tone for instance, very good, made an album with Kaly as well.

He said software is more powerful than hardware. You said hardware has a better sound quality which is partly true. But you'll never be able to make extremely complex music only with hardware.

Ticon - 2AM
in 2008
I just listened to the album and it's amazing!
I agree that it's not psytrance anymore but for what it is (electro-house?), it's great. They are clearly following the same path as son kite/minilogue.
Great album! I Recommend it for people who don't dislike electro-house/minimal.

their second album is much better than the first one, i really like it. But it's nothing compared to their third one which is an amazing album. If you should get one, it's definitely Come Together

Cool thanks!
I'll post a new version which will take in account your comments

i've heard a south park theme psyplanet remix which is ok but the south park samples used are pretty good ( or maybe it's just because i'm a big south park fan )

I've been playing around with Reason since last september and I'd like some opinions on the latest song i've made. It's not completely finished and I'd like some comments on what's good, what's not, what did you like, what could i change and how, etc
The song has been made with Reason 4 only without any samples ( except for the drum kit of course ), is 6 minutes long. I was planning on calling it : "It's getting dark" but I'm not sure yet. The style is pretty much standard ( if I can say that) but with some jazz influence ( i've been playing jazz on the saxophone for 7 years )
Anyway, here's the link http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z3UF2F08
I hope you enjoy it

Ohh in the roundhouse, but that's a tiny venue! A really nice venue though, but tickets are going to sold out very fast.
I'll definitely go!!

haha i heard the song live, his live sets are incredible. He's not doing much though except turning a knob or to here and there, but the music is great!
