Paris based producer Cedric Dassulle better know as Talamasca is no stranger to the psychedelic trance music scene, conjuring up his audio trickery time and time again is there any wonder why so many still to this day call him the ‘Maestro’ in so many countries? It has been 3 years since Talamasca was last featured on Harderfaster, in that time two albums and one EP have been produced and released with his latest release ‘Make Some Noise’ released earlier this summer. With a hectic gig and touring schedule taking him to all parts of the World to unleash his audio magic onto the many dance floors, I managed to catch up with Cedric to find out a lot more of what he has been doing since his last feature on Harderfaster. Few months after the release of "Sonichaos" Mishel teamed with Avi peled, together they came up with the "Todra" project, which had a much more matured musical approach. After being inspired by psychedelic rock in the late 80's and it's evolution into early dance acts such as Eat Static and Astralasia, and then by the birth of psytrance in the first half of the 90's, Ian brought a second hand Amiga 1200 computer and started arranging samples to form his own style of psychedelic dance music. After releasing his first album, "Alien Frequencies" in 1996 and getting some more equipment, his twin brother Mark came on board, playing guitar and didgeridoo to form their unique synergistic partnership. ED TANGENT From an early age Ed found himself drawn to mixing sounds (on an old four track), and the emerging Electronic music medium being developed in the 1970’s, citing the Band ‘SKY’ as an early influence. By the early 80’s he started DJing, influenced by the early electro/hip-hop scratch DJs’ and started looping breaks and beats from old rare groove tracks whist mixing into the new Electro sound. By the end of the 80s’ he moved up to Manchester UK where he immersed himself into the Rave culture and free party scene. After several years of playing and promoting techno and acid sounds at events around the UK’s North West Ed discovered the Goa Trance sound. He teamed up in 1995 with Matt Allaby (Nano) and Christos to start his own night Global Sunrise, which still runs to this day as Sunrise. Ed got recognition for his skills as a DJ and played across the UK at many events including guest spots for the original Psy super club ‘Return To the Source’ at venues such as Brixton Academy, the Rocket, Tyson Street and Mega Dog Festival Events. Psykia connected with music in her primary years at the age of six, when she first took a violin in her hands, which she loves and, even now, is the instrument closest to her heart. She studied classical music throughout her childhood and at the same time was introduced to electronic music, thanks to her brother DJ Sword, a great collector of trance and techno from their very beginnings. Influenced musically by Simon LeBon’s (Duran Duran) record collection, it was this background that became Bill Halsey’s first stepping stone over the watery path and into the music industry as a session guitarist. But how did this formative connection go from that to him becoming one of the UK’s most respected psy trance producers; and live act, Cosmosis? With 14 years of producing and touring the sound of Cosmosis around the World, it has to be said Bill Halsey is nothing but a legend, a term often loosely used by so many. Yet it’s a term that is so fitting to a man who has nothing but passion, emotion and true generosity for what he does, what he shares and most of all his music that echoes around the Globe and onto the trance floors. So in light of his next appearance in the UK I caught up with Bill, speaking from his home in Switzerland to find out more about his history, his experiences and Cosmosis. Taking a new style of dance music into the 21st century has been the primary objective in mind since Ian Hasdell formed Zetan Spore in West Cornwall in 1995. Since then they’ve gone on to release a number of albums and take their sound worldwide. Psylicious set his phaser on ask and went in search of answers. Inspired by psychedelic rock in the late 80’s and its evolution into earlier dance acts such as Eat Static and Astralasia, Ian Hasdell was spurred into forming his own style of psychedelic dance music. After releasing his first album, Alien Frequencies, in 1996, Ian’s twin brother Mark came on board, playing guitar and didgeridoo which forms the basis for their unique synergistic partnership. Together they brought out the next Zetan Spore album, Visitation in 1997 and were then signed to Aardvark Records, where they have so far released a further seven albums. With an eighth album due for release later in the year and countless gigs across the UK the twins of Zetan Spore touched down to answer a few questions for HarderFaster readers. Psykia, real name Francesca Spadoni is an eclectic young artist from the Italian underground music scene. Totally immersed in the psychedelic trance music scene and its culture she spent a year writing her book, “Trancefloor: an ethnographic study about the soundscapes of dancing souls." With a DJ career that has taken her to international territories, as well as the many parties within her Italian homeland and the UK, Psykia is now an integral part of Psylicious, with residencies for it’s radio show and future hosted events and stages.
