DAT

I have a mini disk recorder.

It has an optical IN

but no optical OUT.

Only analog

Does a DAT have optical or digital IN and OUT?

Is it worth investing in one?

I know that in some minidisc recorders there is optical in and out...commonly there is only optical in...Im not sure about DAT, but I suppose that the optical in connection depends on the model like in minidisc recorders...

DAT has a higher sampling rate and lower compression than minidisc, which is good for the really intricate stuff ... but for many purposes minidisc is the easiest option. I don't know about connections - I think that's dependent on the model

Most common potable Sony models-have Digital in and Digital out. There is a Sony portable TCD-100 ?? not sure that will also defeat SCM-way forwards !!

hey bomble, DAT don't compress, unless u use the LP (if have it) record mode (32 KHz). and yes, depends on model, but most DAT recorders use only the AES/EBU digital in/out.
