i know the psy-scene is mostly non-political but i would be

interested if some groups did make statements about

politics. (not necessaryly about drug policies :))

what about the psy-artists from israel? i guess its pretty

difficult to stay unpolitical in that country..

As far as I know most psytrance has no vocals so at least in the lyrics no political statements can be found...Looking at some recent album names and song titles of Israliens then its all pretty non-political too...

So what do u mean?

If you would understand Goa music in the right way then you would know that your mind rebuilds the given and maybe hidden informations in your inner-self...

Message transport through known channels of perception is not longer necessary. If you want to know then you need a higher state of consciousness.

But you should have known that... boo! :o)

well i would argue that the underlying vibe of psy-trance/ goa would be essentially anti- capitalist. it's against commercialisation, pro- free parties, about the collective spirit of people, and their ability to come together and enjoy themselves. it's non- violent. the music itself is interested in exploring the subconscious and other psycadelic realms. when i say anti-capitalist i don't mean marxist but a kind of utopian socialism or anarchism. essenitially the scene tries to give the message that 'we can create our own hapiness' to qoute x-dream. we don't need any overarching state, or guidance. humans in their nature have their own ability of sorting it out through communitarianism.

OFCOURSE i'm not saying it is that way, sure parties nowdays are indeed very much about making money etc. but the scene did start out the way, and to some extent continues to be that way...esp if u compare it to other music scenes, both electronic and non-electronic.

ALSO psy-trance isn't explicit about these political beliefs, i believe it's the kind of things it would following if it did make its beliefs explicit.

yea, i agree with you guys about that "soft communication" and the vibe

of the scene. nevertheless i wouldn't have been surprised to hear if

some artists had chosen "hard communication" and represented their

beliefs more offensive..

and yes the leftish- and hippie-like people (psytrancers or not) tend to

be non-revolutionary these days - trying rather to build their own small

world than to change the big one. concentrating on that, one could say

the psy-scene is rather mainstream :P

It is true that little political samples/lyrics are included in most psy-trance (and the greater realm of electronica in general). I can appreciate the espacist mentality that this music offers... However, as an activist, I think it's a waste of time and energy to produce and perform music and not try to influence people politically. Maybe it's a turnoff to be spun dancing and hear Gee Dubya samples, but how about Jello Biafra or Martin Luther King? These are dark times in the world, where those in power continue to pull the reins tighter as their system diminishes each day. For all the "new world" ideologies that many in the psy-scene offer, there is very little real political music. I guess that's why reggae, folk, and some hiphop are the only politically relevant genres left...

yea hip hop might be political allright, but have u been to hip hop gig recently. your always watching your back, and the vibe is by no means political. to the contrary it try's to mimick the violence and dire state of affiars that the music try's to evoke. psy -trance parties (esp outdoor festivals) have a communtiarian, utopian feel to them, and the general scene (not just the music) is much more politcal than hip hop, or reggae. but music wise yea, both underground rap and some early gangster rap (public enemy, NWA etc) and esp 60's folk music is directly more political.

i think psy samples are best kept to the tried and tested formulas - something that makes you think in a here-and-now sort of way (rather than reminding you of some universal truth you figured out tripping 7 years ago) is just going to break up the trance imo. id rather leave that stuff behind when it comes to trance, im farly politically minded anyway and reminders of injustice/hatred etc just upset me.

then again the odd snippit of say, marx might be fun i suppose.
