Typhoid 02. Disorder Review: The second release from the swedish label Implant Recordings contains two excellent trax by Sensphere (Anders Hermansson). Both the tracks, "Typhoid" 9/10 and "Disorder" 8/10, are similar in style with aggressive dark atmosphere and pounding percussions. They´re very monotonous, almost grinding, but not boring at all in my opinion. I guess this release could really spoil some peoples mood on the dancefloor if played at the wrong time because the tracks are so dark and cold. This is minimal/progressive trance, although it aint good!! Its very cold and has no special feeling, just like Paps and Yumade!so i give this release 5/10!! Perfect for those "cold" outdoor parties, in the night .. It's a great EP from a "beginner" artist. You can't really hear that he's only using "one" synth (Clavia Nord Micro Modular). Although, I've heard other songs by him that pretty much sucks ass. "This is not Goa".. Haha, GOA died in 1997 or something like that. I dont CARE what it's called... as long as it is good music! Guest col_klink3[at]hotmail[dot]com Posted January 30, 2001 Share Posted January 30, 2001 Lemme just say in defense of Sensesphere that even when we was unsigned and producing his "amateur" work - it was produced with an originality that captured a sound that a lot of "pros" at the time could only dream of capturing stuck in their (un)creative ruts... What's the difference between a "pro" and an "amateur" anyway? A couple thousand records sold and name recognition! Typhoid blew my mind the first time I heard it - Sensesphere developed _further_ along the lines he laid down when he was releasing with Ultrabeat - Haven't heard the other track yet (I heard typhoid through Sphere's Voltage compilation)... As a side note - I've only recently discovered this site - and in perusing the reviews I often come across a lot of derogatory comments regarding the new "minimal" wave in psy-trance... and I guess I thought that as part of a sub-culture that may be perhaps more open to change that we wouldn't be as susceptible to the conservatives afraid of change and only wishing to stick with the tried and true... Well - I guess it's a fact of life - every sector of society's gonna have that I suppose... Meanwhile I'll be listening to the best of the old psy-trance that so many people seem afraid of losing while I spice up my repertoire with an exciting sound that represents a needed change and breath of fresh air... Psy-trance (or minimal-psy or psy-tech or whatever!) has great specimens in all it's various incarnations - and I'll be there sampling the best of what this exciting musical genre and it's offshoots have to offer (and that definitely includes Sensesphere's Typhoid!) Never heard disorder, but I did hear typhoid on a comp and I have heard his ultrabeat tracks and I don't understand what the fuss is about. It's not good at all. Maybe disorder is better. Typhoid is repetitive, empty, no twisting. It's just the same melody for 9 minutes. Ok, it's not just one melody, but the melodies are pretty lame. Besides, all minimal stuff is about the noises and there are no noises here, no nice bass. To summarize, the track is empty. All of its sections seem underworked. If this is the way it was supposed to be then I still don't like it, it's too empty to deliver a message. His earlier ultrabeat tracks were even worse, they were noise, not music. Just a whole bunch of sounds layered together. As an amateur producer I know how hard this is :-) but still... Dude, use your synth more. Sequencing the whole track isn't the way to go cause unless you use Cubase and a _LOT_ (10+) of synths noises must be played live. You need a different synth, something with more editing abilities. What you have is a nice all-in-one, but not too good on editing. A side synth + a Roland MC505 is nice, but the MC505 needs to be worked from scratch. One thing is true, it really doesn't matter how many synths you have. In the mean time I'll be waiting for this guy to learn his stuff cause he's got potential. Keep trying man, don't try to get in as little work as possible but keep going. I'm working on a track now to be called 'Alethia'(Latin for 'truth'), I've been at it for more than a month now and it's far from finished, I'm also just learning yet :-) Bom! - Raven Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Well, having heard a GREAT "liveact" (well, he mixed his own tracks on cd...) of Sensphere's (at Planet Skåland! ) i bought the vinyl without really listening it through. Too bad. The music he played at the party was more melodic, and very dancable. Very hard and stomping, but as i remember it not very cold-and-dark, like the EP is unfortunally. It is simply much too repetetive, and the bassline is too simple to be enjoyable. It sounds alot like some '95 happy hardcore without melodies, but with a lot of very sharp 'twisted' sounds on top. I don't know if it works on the dancefloor really, but I don't think I would enjoy it. It sure doesn't work for home listening. Not psychedelic, just dark and hard. My generall impression is that the record label wanted some not so 'trancy' psytrance, since I know that the label founder doesn't like psytrance very much. But music is for the listener not for the composer right? Too bad, because I think Sensphere can do better than this. And he is better 'live'. I can understand that for some people the "melody" you hear in typhoid can be quite annoying, but to me it's the opposite. There's something there driving you mad on the dancefloor (and at home aswell, everytime I hear it I'd like to dance ). Disorder is a bit more psychedelic with a nice melody.
