Guest Stormbringer
JP / Steve Active - Raspel / Microwave Artist: JP / Steve Active Title: Raspel / Microwave Label: Shpastic Elastic Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. JP : Raspel 02. Steve Active : Microwave Review: I was previously not so keen on the minimal psytrance but after the genre started to develop a branch towards a darker, heavier and crazier sound I then began to like it more and more. At the end of 2000 the split EP with Steve Active (aka: Stefan Keller) "Microwave" and JP (aka: Patrick Sonderegger) "Raspel" was released. I´ve never heard of them before and I´ve never heard anyone talk about this 12" either. I find that very strange because I think this is an awesome record, atleast the track "Microwave" (10/10). I just can´t get enough of this addictive music, and some days ago my girlfriend were on the edge to a nervous breakdown when I had been playing "Microwave" over and over again for three days like a preteen plays music ;-) This totally fucked up track feels pretty sane for the first half of the plastic but then the madness starts for real. It isn´t that kind of finnish insanity that Haltya, Squaremeat and Texas Fagott are experts on, and it isn´t the Hux Flux style either. This is some other mental music for sure, more subtle and not so obvious. There´s some similarity with Paps and some other Creamcropacts work but it´s still very unique. The track keeps building and building until it reaches climax and then it´s really daft, I promise you! There´s a lot of different rhythmic metallic echoing percussion, flavoured with some dark sweeping growling noises... excellent!!! I think most djs will judge this track to be too sick for the normal dancefloor but I would probably start spinning like a windmill if someone did play it when I´m arround :-D I consider this being one of my top ten favourites of all time and it´s still climbing on that chart! "Raspel" (6/10) is more like a normal minimal track but it´s still quite good. It´s pretty monotonous but it has this nice groove that makes it worth while atleast a listen or two.
