Chi-ad - Lifeforce

Posted Image

Artist: Chi-ad

Title: Lifeforce

Label: Medium

Date: 1998

Track listing:

01. Astral Warrior (Rmx)

02. Awakenings

03. After Ever (Live Mix)

Review:

This is an interesting listen. Very old school goa here, nothing original by

todays standards, and probably not even for 1999 as the EP was released at the

very end of 1998. This is melodic progressive trance IMO, but tracks 2&3 are

both slower and more ambient. After Ever is the best track on this release,

but it's definitely not dancefloor material. It's also a little too long, as

there just isn't enough "material" in the track to drag it on for almost 13

minutes. Lots of progressive synth melodies with an Eastern sound to it...

kind of like most old school Chi-AD tracks, and old school goa. Astral Warrior

[Remix] is the only faster track on the EP, and it sounds very similar to the

original release, which I didn't like. Much too full-on, and almost forced.

This isn't a great release, but people who like Chi-AD will want to hear this.

5/10

Respect, this is quality material, Astral Warrior is very danceable, great

track for full-on parties! I still like the original better though

strolling through some old releases I have and just realized how incredibly well the last track, After Ever standed the test of time. Moreso, it is almost impossible to find it anywhere else, even on youtube! It is basically Astral Warrior in a downtempo version, now I know it might sound an odd idea but it makes MIRACLES, especially when coming down from a trip, all those slowed-down sounds are real magic IMO. Won't comment on Astral Warrior cause I suppose everyone knows it already (otherwise you're missing a huge piece of goa history) and Awakening is a very average track, I suppose it's one of Chi's very first tracks cause it has this oldschool London acid housy-trance feeling to it IMO (808 State, LFO and such...). But After Ever is the real gem here, and given the rarity of it, buying this EP is worth every penny ;)
