Review:

Second comp from the new label flow, this one is even better than the first !

As you can see by looking at the names, the whole comp is pretty hard/minimal

(well not too minimal). First track, percaution, has some kind of jazzy bass,

very cool, a subtile melody enters near the end. Second track by Logic Bomb is

allright, but a little disappointing. Sounds more like a HuxFlux track with

these modem samples. Third track by Paps is very good, it begins slowly, but

after 4:00 a distorted lead comes in till the end. Fourth track by Dimo, a

nice track build around short voices samples. 5th and 6th tracks are good,

nothing special, I wonder if the tracks on the Mino album sounds like this ?

Seventh track by Expander is very good, with a dark and slow melody all the

time, I look forward to hearing other tracks from them. Track 8 by Slinky

Wizard, very groovy, with a good layering and nice variations. Last track, the

only one I didn't like, too bad it's the longest track :-( Moreover the

production on every track is perfect and as the name implies it flows very

well so I guess I'll give 8.5/10 :)

I've been too lazy to sit down and write a review for this compilation, but if

I had, I would have written more or less the same as Ubik. The accents are

exactly where he put them. I would just like to stress the Expander track

again - really, really cool.

song

Love this CD! The Expander alone is worth getting this. Where are these guys

from and why don't they come out with an album or two? Huh? 9/10

"Melody charged minimal" - that's how I take this comp. Indeed, the

construction & concept of tracks tends to minimal, but there're plenty of

melodic patterns amidst these structure elements to bring in the flow. However

sparse track elements exclusively grip your attention - as they're all very

smooth. Personally, I don't mind listening it from time to time, but won't say

it impresses me much. Consider it quality filler stuff. The first couple of

listens back then in 2000 my instant favourites were tracks 1,2,3, but now

they seem exhausted to me, whereas it seems tracks 4,7,6 in that descending

order have passed the test of time. All in all, a decent compilation from Flow

records consisting of more percussion-oriented tracks in its first half & more

soft & melodic in second. 7/10 it deserves. Tchankov I.V. (civ604@mail.ru)
