mars
Bio Tonic - Elektrik Colors Artist: Bio Tonic Title: Elektrik Colors Label: Solstice Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 06'57" The 3rd Link 02. 06'47" Stream 03. 07'43" Zoological 04. 07'30" Ayauesca 05. 08'04" Intersideral Meeting 06. 07'09" The Ghost Show 07. 07'29" Sanctuary 08. 08'13" The Ultimate 09. 06'54" Peacefull Perception Review: The 3rd Link(1) starts quickly, progresses nicely, on a psy style. It kicks and drives you high directly, but it's not exhausting. the breaks are pleasant, the psy touches are ok. there are voices at the end while the tracks rolls a lot to reach the end. it seems it's too short while its ~7 minutes! Stream(2) is a kicking track that grown nicely and drives you to dance. Hard, and happy on a dancefloor. Zoological(3) sounds like rhythm and bits of psy sounds around. not various enough. Ayauesca(4) pumps while small sounds behind try to excite your brain. There are also drums. nice work, but not enough. Intersideral Meeting(5) takes a moment to start but it peppers you with some little notes. After the break there is no real change but the track is ok. The Ghost Show(6) is dark and inventive. I'm not sure but i think people would really love it on a dancefloor. there are several breaks and touches of darkness and guitar that make it enjoyable! Sanctuary(7) is a bit industrial, a bit psychedelic, a bit whatever, but it seems it never really starts, never catches the listener. Too bad, this could have been a bomb. It's ok but....once again there is a small thing missing here! The Ultimate(8) is a downtempo track. It's very linear but it gives a break. nice synth lines. Peaceful Perception(9) is another calm track. the rhythmic is more dubbed. it drives you during a cool moment, with evanescent notes, voices, and it becomes a bit more psychedelic with more smooth acid loops at the end. Overall this is a good quite good album, better than many this year, BUT with a big flaw. Biotonic guys -while very good technically- have concentrated too much on the rhythmic to such an extent that many tracks sound the same (imagine gms minus the psychedelia or darksoho minus the wild guitar parts...). A kick and a bassline don't make it anymore, because it's too common. Anyway i think many of those tracks are valuable on a dancefloor....With more work it could have been far better........6.5/10. Guest iNFiNiTi500
This is one-helluva record. Technically subtle yet unpretentiously brutal. Despite an overall gloomy mood, these guys aren't afraid to mix some female club voices, accoustic jazzy parts, tribal drums and dark ambient, among other influences, into the hard pounding trax. For a change, the crisp and crystalclear production enables actual perception of the many details but a high-end sound system definately helps. Mars has a point that the tracks are often a tad too short, especially evident in the -Ayauesca- track where the 10 second Old Skool 604 synth at the closing stages of the composition should have lasted much longer than the lousy 10 seconds. If U ever imagined Juno Reactor doing full-on 3dVision style, Bio-tonic is as good as its gets. Besides, strangely compelling dancefloor killer -the Ghost Song- will probably be appreciated by both the progressive minimal crowd and old skool Goaheads. An achievement in itself. 8.5/

Guest moander[at]media[dot]mit[dot]edu
how in hell can biotonik have been schooled by the whole yumade/paps/pea gang? They sound about a billion times better... as darth vader said once "the circuit is now complete. When i left you, I was but the learner, now I am the master" et toc! Guest EoN
This cd is a killer! Funky, progressive, stompin, with jazzy sounds thrown in.. As someone said, it's awesome that they have thrown in female vocals, and made it work... Track 1 is FRESH!!! This is definately my fave CD atm... Adds SPICE to a progressive set! Nomad
full blown madness for a time when nothing else matters..nice breaks and ideas. I think this will please all members of both camps. If there are dj's out there try playing the first two tracks at 136-38..fattens the bass and turns what was a wicked track into indescribable pleasure
