It's the second release of 24/7 and it is mixed by none other than montreal's own, DJ horizon, founder of Event Horizon productions. Broken Toy starts out this compilation with an extremely energetic track. Nice groove in the bassline melody, psychedelic synths, nothing too dark, nothing too kitch, basicaly a well balenced track between morning and full-on that will certainly make dancefloors shake for a few months. Materia presents a very special track that stands out with its very dark sound and with a melody that could almost fit into a hardcore set if it were played just a little faster. This track is interesting but there is one problem... it only lasts five minutes and to me, thats not enough to have a good trance progression. Biogenesis is a new mexican duo. Note that Mexico has been presenting a couple of very interesting artists in the last few months. Their track, computer voices, starts out with a good bassline but unfortunatly, from beggining to end, it does not evolve and that takes away alot to the progression of the track. The synths are still interesting and the finale is energetic but, in general, the track is a bit monotonous. Simplicity, by Khopat has a very energetic melody that start out, around 5 minutes before the end. The breakdowns and the bassline really give an interesting intensity to this track. In the finale the bassline changes slightly and the track becomes completely mad.. solid! Mekkanikka presented in 2006 their debut album that had left me a bit deceived... on the other hand, this track proves my theory that nikka keeps his best for VAs. The melody, remeniscent of the old psy sound mixes on a full-on bassline close to the south african sound... the mix works out great! Hydraglyph starts his track with a gloomy sample taken from the movie war of the worlds that is succesfull in creating an ambiance that anounces the very dark track to come. This track reminds me of some recent serious porn collector tracks. The integration of stereo effects make this track really intense (especially when you listen to it with a good pair of headphones). Btw... all of you who havn't decieded what you're doing on new years eve... heard of some 2007? Painkiller's track stays in a similar vibe but the last breakdown is just to long to keep the energy necessery to keep a dancefloor thumping in my opinion. The bassline is pretty complex and is not really catch... it is still a very interesting track and it does grow on you after a couple times hearing it. Imitation of life is one of the tracks in this VA that has interested me the most. During the last breakdown there is a little breakbeat with a distorted kickdrum... total genious but to bad it dosnt last a little longer. The synths in the finale are quite simply amazing. The track does take a little long to get off the floor but I'm sure that, well mixed, it will tear some heads off! Tube created a track sampling the theme song from the movie scarface. From the first to the last second, this track is very catchy. The finale, just like in mekkanikka's track, mixes old school israeli psy synths with full-on south african bassline... genious. Pitch Hikers, a duo formed of slug and shift, two artists from south africa, present their first release since their album twilight zone. The track that they are presenting to us represents succesfully thair album and the south african sound in general. In resume, this compilation is a must! It explores the full-on sound and it's variable with artists from the four corners of the world.
