Ok, I got to ask. What is the idea of being able to listen to the full tracks on Youtube but not on Bandcamp? If it is a preorder why make them available on Youtube? is it a promotional thing?

Thanks for asking, it's one of the questions I hear a lot recently and I'll be happy to give you my personal point of view regarding this matter.

First of all, the audio quality between YouTube and Bandcamp isn't the same. Usually people who tend to steal music and re-upload it on other services and forums use Bandcamp. You can see the most recent trend of having a short previews on Bandcamp or even unreal prices attached to digital files. Labels do that to protect their work and work of the artists. Our approach is different mostly because we use PRO edition of Bandcamp and we can set up private streams and even go with limited / exclusive embedd from just one web-place. We tested that on previous release (Lectro Spektral Daze) and it worked like a charm. All other releases that went into release approx. in same month were ripped off, while Lectro's album stood out.

Of course, we can't control 100% the music we're giving to promo prior to the release (and we do that through download codes), but in the end there will be someone who will share the files online and all of our work will be damaged, but hey, that's something we got used to. You can't fight all the time by sending take-down notices 24/7, but you can streamline the music through the right channels where it will reach real fans (and I don't consider theifs to be fans at all).

Now, back on YouTube. Even we protect our music, we can't stop someone from uploading it on YouTube, but what we can do is to offer and promote our channel where you will be able to hear it before anyone else (in case you want to hear music prior to the release). It serves as a good promotion (in our case), it offers fans who aren't able to buy music a place where they can listen to it and what really matters, YouTube places your music higher on the scale when someone searches music. I believe thoose are strong pro's why we do that.

Personally I spent a lot of time learning and discovering possibilities of social media and platforms dedicated to musicians and labels and after few years of testing and trying different things, this method gave a lot of results in terms of sales and direct fan-to-artist promotion. Of course, each label got it's own way of dealing with similar situations, but I'm always willing to go with uncoventional methods to give best results for my artists and for the label.

  3. Thanks man :)

Somehow I always leave Psynews at the end of promo run, but no one will be mad I hope :) So here we go:

Sometimes it’s challenging to exemplify someone’s work and creation with just one word, but that’s not the case when it comes to the music of german Goa trance project Veasna. Mastermind behind the Veasna project and passionate Goa trance aficionado Patrick Dinklage gave a great definition of its own creation, by calling it simply noschool. And it fits perfectly. Spectral Flux is a collection of 9 new Goa trance tracks and expressive continuation of his debut album Energy, released back in summer of 2016. Each track on Spectral Flux supports the premise of noschool, offering the finest elements of modern and retro Goa trance, but keeping the creators own trademark mood.

Perhaps the words from the author will be the best invitation to dive into this record and explore it:

''It is certainly no news that music can take you to places, including places that are not restricted to the physical world. From the opposite perspective, making music is a way to create those kinds of imaginary places, something I enjoy doing very much. So I am very glad that I may present nine more places for everyone to explore. Find in them what you will and enjoy your stay!''

maybe it's just me but to my ears this album is severely lacking in bass... i'm not sure if it was Mr. Lectro Spektral Daze's intention or the mastering choices but the low end frequencies feel neutered. whatever beautifully sequenced bassline and kick that there might have been gets de-emphasized to the point that my enjoyment of the album is reduced.

the fact that tsotsi mentions pulling out his earphones from one of the sweeps should tell you something... while listening on speakers is kinda okay, listening on my v-moda headphones, which are usually excellent at reproducing booming club-like bass, the low ends are often anemic. when the bass is more isolated it sounds fine but when the music becomes more complex, the highs have very little to push up against, there is no groove to the music, it's far too treble-y.

i know some people prefer that old school sound but i feel that in order to enter into the trance-state (the whole point of this genre of music, i would think) the mind focuses in on the repetitive nature of the bass and allows the effects surrounding it to create the psychedelia.

turning the volume up to get more punch to the bass hurts my ears and there is only so much i can tolerate fiddling with equalizers.

i don't think modern era goa (or more specifically Neogoa Records) as a rule needs to be trying so hard to re-create that 90's aesthetic. comparing the recently released remastered Etnica album Juggeling Alchemists with the original 1996 release, it's apparent that DAT records considers thickening up the bassline as part of what constitutes an improvement for modern sensibilities and equipment.

or to take another example, Timewarp's recent compilation Call of Goa 3, they've managed to maintain the integrity of the trippy goa highs without sacrificing the low end.

in the past i've praised Neogoa's mastering as being gentle as it felt like the layers of sound were in good balance and thus easy to listen to at high volumes. though maybe part of what necessitated listening at higher volumes was the fact that the basslines lacked drive. so, ultimately i would like it if different approach was taken in the future to make the basslines more aggressive and prominent...

i'm curious what Lectro Spektral Daze himself has to think about how his album came out...his previous albums had a much denser sound.

Thank you very much for your in-depth sound-analysis. Believe it or not, this kind of feedback helps a lot to make our releases sound and feel better. When it comes to sound-policy at Neogoa Records, we try to respect artists input and preferences, but also to meet our (high) standards when it comes to sound-quality. Lectro Spektral Daze new album isn't the exception here and it was released when artist gave green light.

  8. Infinitely Intericate Unfolding Kaleidoscope is a new full lenght release by New Zealand based producer Danny Marshall and his Goa-trance act Lectro Spektral Daze. This new album comes with 8 fresh tracks as a follow up to his well-recieved Full Fractal Vision album, published on our label back in early 2016, but this time with refined sound and more vivid production, where Lectro Spektral Daze continues to explore the themes and motifs from previous records. Infinitely Intericate Unfolding Kaleidoscope is a masterful journey into the landscape of Goa sounds, but it also tickles the progressive aspect of the genre itself, putting the listener into unique state of deep trance led by trademark LSD melodies and pulsating drum-kicks as a driving force of this record. Without any doubt, Infinitely Intericate Unfolding Kaleidoscope is an evolutive Goa trance record and a new step forward in Lectro Spektral Daze rich discography.
